It seems like it was just yesterday the whole world discovered that Chandler Bing and Monica Geller were dating.
However, it’s been 11 years since we last saw the friends together. Friends premiered in 1994 and sadly ended in 2004. Not to worry, though. In case you’ve been living under a rock, Friends debuted on Netflix in January of this year. What an amazing way to bring in the New Year.
The cast was one of those where the actors to this day, are still recognized by the character they played. That’s when you know the show was one of the most epic. Because of that, fans all over the world are always wondering what they are up to now.
Cast members like Jennifer Aniston (Rachel Green) or Courtney Cox (Monica Geller) are well known in the press today that you don’t have to wonder much about what’s going on with them. However, that leaves the rest of our favorite cast members in the shadows. They are so low-key that it gives us the best chills when one of them makes an appearance on a TV series or a film, whether it’s them or just their voice. For instance, that one time Phoebe Buffay, or Lisa Kudrow, played a guidance counselor at North Ojai High School in the awesome flick, Easy A, starring Emma Stone. Also, we couldn’t help but smile whenever Melman, the New York Zoo’s star Giraffe from the film, Madagascar, would speak knowing it was one of our favorite friends, Ross Geller.
So now let’s track down what the rest of the gang is up to these days, one by one.
11. Matthew Perry A.K.A Chandler Bing
Chandler Bing’s sarcasm was one of the best parts of the 90’s sitcom. Along with Monica and Rachel, we couldn’t really tell what Bing did for a living but overall, he was well-off financially. Aside from Friends, you can remember Matthew Perry from the popular film, Fools Rush In, alongside actress, Salma Hayek. After the sitcom and romantic drama, Perry didn’t have the best of luck in the acting business for quite a while. He held on to his career with sitcoms like Mr. Sunshine in 2011 and Go On in 2012, which weren’t too successful, but he has found success this year with The Odd Couple. Personally, Perry had entered rehab for an addiction to opioids, amphetamines and alcohol. Fast-forward to 2013, he received the Champion of Recovery award from the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy.
10. Tom Selleck A.K.A Dr. Richard Burke
Tom Selleck played Dr. Richard Burke, Monica’s older boyfriend, in seasons two and three and made an appearance in the two-part finale. The two were in a serious relationship but as we all know, Monica ended up with Chandler, who we all were much bigger fans of. Besides being Geller’s boyfriend, Selleck was also well-known for playing a private investigator in the TV series Magnum, P.I. You might have also watched him in the series, Las Vegas, as A.J. Cooper. Selleck married model, Jacqueline Ray, in 1971 and adopted a son but then later divorced in 1982. He settled down in 1987 with Jillie Mack in Westlake Village, California.
9. Courtney Cox A.K.A Monica Geller
Monica Geller began dating Dr. Richard Burke in season two who happened to be one of her father’s best friends. However, the two decided to call it quits after recognizing they wanted different things out of life. Monica wanted to eventually settle down raising a family and Richard did not. As said before though, all things happen for a reason and Monica falls in love with Chandler, becoming one of our favorite fictional couples ever. However, what is the real Courtney Cox up to these days? We know that while she was working on Friends, she starred in the high-profile movie, Scream, and also got engaged to co-star, David Arquette. The two had an up and down relationship after they split in 2010 but eventually cut the whole thing completely off and divorced in 2013. They have a daughter together whose godmother happens to be a very good friend of Cox’, Jennifer Aniston. After Friends and during their relationship, the couple served as executive producers for the FX show, Dirt, which only lasted for two seasons. Cox went on to star in the series, Cougar Town, in 2009 which first premiered on ABC before moving to TBS from 2013 to 2015. Cox began dating Johnny McDaid later in 2013 and announced their engagement in 2014.
8. Maggie Wheeler A.K.A Janice
Speaking of Chandler Bing, Maggie Wheeler played his unforgettable on-again-off-again girlfriend, Janice. The pair was noticeably opposites from each other which made their relationship entertaining, mostly on Janice’s part for being pretty outrageously annoying. However, Wheeler was pretty successful playing several roles in other TV sitcoms other than Friends. She appeared on Everybody Loves Raymond in a recurring role as the friend of Patricia Heaton‘s character, Debra. Wheeler also made guest appearances in Fat Actress, Drake&Josh and Curb Your Enthusiasm. She now lives in Los Angeles with her husband and two daughters, working as a director of an African choral music choir.
7. Elliot Gould A.K.A Jack Geller
Elliot Gould played the father of Monica and Ross Geller, Jack Geller. You might remember his funny character and odd relationship with Chandler, when he got with his daughter. Gould has done quite well for himself though, after the end of Friends. He was the star of M*A*S*H as well as appeared in films, Ocean’s Twelve, Ocean’s Thirteen, The Caller, and Contagion. Along with those roles, Gould made cameos in Law & Order, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, CSI, and The Cape. He married Barbra Streisand in 1963 and had one child together, Jason Gould. They divorced in 1971. Interestingly, Gould had married and divorced Jennifer Bogart twice; 1973-1975 then 1978-1979. They have two children together.
6. Christina Pickles A.K.A Judy Geller
Just like Elliot Gould, Christina Pickles also did pretty well besides the sitcom. She played the role of the mother of Monica and Ross, Judy Geller. However, she is more known for her role in the hospital drama, St. Elsewhere, as nurse Helen Rosenthal. She was nominated for an Emmy for the role in the drama. Pickles also made guest appearances in How I Met Your Mother, Friends with Benefits and Animal Practice along with movies, Kat Plus One and Flower Girl. She was married to producer/director, Victor Lobl but then divorced in 1985. She was later romantically linked to her co-star in St. Elsewhere, Herb Edelman.
5. Paul Rudd A.K.A Mike Hannigan
It’s funny to look back and realize Paul Rudd was in Friends. The actor played Phoebe’s boyfriend-turned-husband, Mike Hannigan. He was known for his roles in movies like Clueless and The Object of My Affection, while he appeared on the show. Rudd has starred in numerous successful films after the sitcom ended such as Knocked Up, The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, I Love You Man and Wanderlust with funnily enough, Jennifer Aniston. In 2015, he starred in the biggest role thus far in Ant-Man as the lead character. He married Julie Yaeger in 2003. They have two children together.
4. Lisa Kudrow A.K.A Phoebe Buffay
Lisa Kudrow played the role of Phoebe Buffay, the creator of the song, “Smelly Cat,” and the friend you can always rely on to make you laugh even when times were rough. Aside from being an amateur musician, Kudrow has also starred in movie roles for P.S. I Love You, Hotel For Dogs, and Easy A. Kudrow has also starred on HBO series, The Comeback, which premiered in 2005. She married Michael Stern in 1995 and had a son with him named Julian Murray. Her pregnancy was shown on seasons four and five of Friends, having Phoebe serve as a surrogate mother for her brother and his wife Alice since they couldn’t have any.
3. Matt LeBlanc A.K.A Joey Tribbiani
Matt LeBlanc played the goofy, lovable, aspiring actor, Joey Tribbiani. Joey was another friend, alongside Phoebe, the rest of the friends could count on (and sometimes get annoyed of) when things weren’t going smoothly. When Friends ended, LeBlanc starred on his own spin-off series on NBC called Joey, which followed the character on the rest of his journey as an actor. The spin-off didn’t do so well though, and got cancelled in 2006 during its second season. However, he won a Golden Globe award in 2012 for his work on the Showtime series, Episodes, where he plays a fictional version of himself. He’s been nominated for four Emmys as well for his role in the series. After his divorce from Melissa McKnight, LeBlanc was dating co-star of Joey, Andrea Anders, but split earlier this year.
2. David Schwimmer A.K.A Ross Geller
David Schwimmer was responsible for the character, Ross Geller, Monica’s brother and Rachel’s on-again-off-again boyfriend. He was the pretty strict brother and boyfriend after losing it when he found out his sister was dating his roommate and trying to work it out with Rachel. Along with acting, Schwimmer got to direct a few episodes of Friends and went on to direct a couple of more episodes, but on Joey. After the show got cancelled, he continued to direct in films such as Run, Fatboy, Run in 2007 and Trust in 2010. He’s currently in production for the FX miniseries, American Crime Story, playing the role of Robert Kardashian. However, we will always remember him as Ross.
1. Jennifer Aniston A.K.A Rachel Green
Jennifer Aniston got the part of Rachel Green, playing the conflicted girlfriend of Ross Geller. The character earned her an Emmy award, a Golden Globe award and a Screen Actor’s Guild award. To this day, she is most famous for her role on Friends but also recognized for her real life relationship struggles. She was married to high-profile actor, Brad Pitt, from 2000 to 2005. Shortly after the two separated, the rumors of Pitt being unfaithful to Aniston with Angelina Jolie began going around. Since her divorce with the actor, Aniston’s relationship struggles were highly publicized in the media but in 2011, she found love again with Justin Theroux and married in 2015. After Friends and during her life as a single woman in Hollywood, Aniston was pursuing role after role in movies but wasn’t too successful. Finally, she began landing popular roles in movies such as Marley & Me, Horrible Bosses, Horrible Bosses 2 and Bruce Almighty. Her role in the drama, Cake, earned her a Golden Globe nomination. Most recently, Aniston is said to star in Mean Moms, which started production in the summer of 2015. In 2016, she is also set to star in Mother’s Day with Julia Roberts, Kate Hudson and Jason Sudeikis.
