Ah, the Kardashian family. There is perhaps no other family that provokes such strong opinions in people. Seriously, a video of them drinking tea could leak and everyone would probably have opinions about their tea drinking.
Some people find them entertaining as hell, which is a clearly popular opinion considering the fact that their show is in its, like, millionth season. Some people think they are smart business people, which, considering the fact that they’ve built an empire despite not necessarily having any talent, has some truth to it. Finally, there are other people who really, really don’t like the Kardashian family. Of the people who don’t like the Kardashians, some of them just happen to be celebrities themselves.
It’s really rare to see a celebrity say something that is outright unflattering about another celebrity. To be political, they will generally say something veiled, as to not completely burn a bridge. However, when it comes to the Kardashians, some celebs don’t give a shit about bridges. They have straight up said some mean stuff about the family. Of course, being such a controversial family, the Kardashians may have expected this kind of harsh criticism.
Below are some of the nastiest comments fellow celebrities have made about the Kardashians because even in Tinseltown, not everyone is a fan of the reality TV royal family. At the end of the day, though, these insults that other celebrities have said about the family will not take away their 45 seasons of the show, millions of dollars and the empire they have built on the celebrity construct.
15. Amy Schumer
Amy Schumer had a great 2015. Her film, Trainwreck, was released to positive reviews and became a box-office hit. She also became besties with J Law so that’s pretty cool too. Oh, and she hosted SNL and totally trashed the Kardashians during her opening monologue in 2015.
Of course, the insults were delivered in a Schumer’s hilarious style, making the blows seem a little less hurtful. She questioned if the Kardashians are good role models for young women by saying, “Is that a great message for little girls, a whole family of women who take the faces they were born with as, like, a light suggestion?”
She went on to talk about Khloe‘s recent weight loss, stating that she used to be the one Kardashian who regular girls could relate to but then she went and lost a whole Kendall of body weight.
When asked about Schumer’s comments, Khloe responded: “I was more upset that someone claims they’re like a girl’s girl and that they’re all about women empowerment, and then she says that I’m not relatable because I’m not fat anymore.”
14. Tim Gunn
Apparently, Tim Gunn does not think the Kardashians are stylish and that’s a dude who certainly knows style. He taught at Parsons, one of the most prestigious fashion schools in the world, from 1982 to 2007. Then, his fame among the general public, as opposed to just the stylish elite, rose when he started mentoring designers on Project Runway. So, like we said, the dude knows fashion.
In an interview with The New York Daily News, Gunn shared his advice on style: “I’m always saying to young people and actually even to adults, I don’t care what you wear as long as you don’t dress like a Kardashian. It’s vulgar, period.”
For Tim Gunn to say that you 100% shouldn’t dress like a Kardashian is a hilarious insult. We do have to admit, though, that before Kanye got involved, Kim wore some pretty horrendous outfits. But now Kendall is walking in freakin’ Chanel shows and on the cover of September Vogue, so yeah.
13. Daniel Craig
Apparently, James Bond does not approve of the Kardashian family – or, well, Daniel Craig, who plays James Bond doesn’t approve of the family, but that’s basically like James Bond not liking them.
The international movie star said of the family, “Look at the Kardashians, they’re worth millions. I don’t think they were that badly off to begin with but now look at them. You see that and you think, ‘What, you mean all I have to do is behave like a f*****g idiot on television and then you’ll pay me millions.’ I’m not judging it — well, I am obviously.”
Yeah, he’s totally judging. Of course, the opinion that they act like idiots on television and are paid for it is popular, as it’s the most basic criticism of them but, well, they’ve also made millions so there’s that too.
12. Jonah Hill
We can add Jonah Hill to the list of people who have insulted the Kardashians. He seems like an odd addition but, to be honest, the variety of people who have insulted the Kardashian family is pretty wide.
Jonah Hill’s insult apparently came from his love of Don Draper, as he said, “The fact that the Kardashians could be more popular than a show like Mad Men is disgusting. It’s a super disgusting part of our culture, but I still find it funny to make a joke about it.”
I mean, yeah, Mad Men was super awesome but it is a little funny that KUWTK’s popularity in comparison to Mad Men is what gets Hill riled up. I supposed when you’re in the business of making quality entertainment, you tend to get very emotional when something you deem low-quality is getting a lot of attention.
11. Chelsea Handler
Well, duh. I mean, of course, Chelsea Handler would have a thing or two to say about Kim K. Chelsea Handler is a comedian so it’s kind of like her job to poke fun at other celebrities.
During an interview with The New York Times, Handler said of Kim K: “When you look at the scary state of this country, it’s insane how things that began as jokes keep going, like the Kardashians. They weren’t supposed to last this long.”
We have to admit that Handler kind of has a point. Did anyone think that Kim would be relevant in 2016 when he sex tape leaked in 2007? Absolutely not. The fact that she’s not only relevant but even more relevant today than she even was when she exploded onto the scene is really surprising.
10. Rebel Wilson
Another funny lady strikes down the Kardashians. But this time, it was actually slightly unintentional.
When asked about why she didn’t want to present an award at the MTV VMAs with Kylie and Kendall, Rebel Wilson replied that “It’s not that you hate any of them individually, but it’s just that everything they stand for is against everything I stand for. And they’re not famous for talent.”
This started a feud, as Rebel claims that the Kardashian publicist had been on a smear campaign against her following her comment. She even tweeted that she apologized and sent the family flowers.
9. Barbara Walters
Unlike the other insults on this list, Barbara Walters straight up said this one to their faces because Barbara Walter is a G. When interviewing them in 2011, Walters said, “You don’t have any, forgive me, talent.”
The most hilarious thing about this insult is just how true it is. All of the ladies being interviewed agreed that they can’t act, sing or dance. They went on to tell Walters that the fact that they don’t have a talent makes having a successful television show even more difficult, as people have to tune in just to see them. That is actually also very true.
Walters begins the interview, noting that she received so much backlash for including Kim, Kourtney, Khloe and Kris on her list of the most fascinating people of the year, which is funny because she didn’t receive backlash for including the cast of The Jersey Shore the year before. She remarks that there is something about the Kardashian family that gets people heated. That is for sure, Barbs.
8. Caitlyn Jenner
The, perhaps, oddest addition to this list is ol’ Caitlyn Jenner, formerly known as Bruce Jenner and also formerly part of the close-knit family.
In 2015, Bruce officially became Caitlyn and also divorced Kris, though the two had been separated for some time before that. Because of the awareness that Caitlyn brought to the transgender community, her star began to shine much, much brighter than the other members of the Kardashian clan.
When she graced the now-famous Vanity Fair cover, she did not hold back in her interview, saying, “The first 15 years I felt [Kris] needed me more because I was the breadwinner. Then, really around [the time of KUWTK], when that hit and she was running the whole show and getting credit for it and she had her own money, she didn’t need me as much from that standpoint… I think in a lot of ways she became less tolerant of me. A lot of times she wasn’t very nice. People would see how I got mistreated. She controlled the money, all that kind of stuff.”
After the interview, the divide was definitely set and it continues to this day. Even this year, Kylie Snapchatted with Caitlyn on Father’s Day, who called Kylie her favorite daughter because she was the only one who invited her over. Oh, subtle shade, Cait. We see you.
7. Rob Delaney
Like many of the other names on this list, Rob Delaney is a comedian. I mean, we can’t blame the comedians. They need something to make jokes about and, well, the Kardashians are pretty easy targets.
But in a not-so-joking statement, Delaney said “The Kardashian corporation is cancerous and rotten and what they represent is bad and not good. They’re just an advertiser dollar vacuum and nothing more.”
He went on to pen a piece for Vice, in which he threatened to sue Kim if she went through with her divorce from Kris Humphries. Though it was obviously a joke, he wrote that “This is not a joke.” He was upset over the fake that the lavish wedding wasted millions of dollars during a recession and that it made a mockery of marriage when gay couples all across America were still unable to get married.
He actually may have more in common with the Kardashians than one would think at first glance. Rocking a Twitter following of over 1 million, Delaney is credited as one of the first comedians to use Twitter for their jokes. He’s amassed such a following due to his trying out jokes on Twitter and, in 2012, was even awarded ‘The Funniest Person On Twitter Award’ from Comedy Central.
6. Jeremy Renner
The Marvel star is not too keen on the Kardashians. In an interview with The Guardian, Jeremy Renner said, “Oh, all those ridiculous people with zero talent who spend their lives making sure everyone knows their name. Those stupid, stupid people.” Though he doesn’t necessarily name them, he also doesn’t necessarily have to.
This also isn’t the only time Renner has spoken out about his disapproval of the family. When Kim K posted her nude selfie that shocked the world, celebs weighed in on it. Pink posted a long message, telling girls that not selling out is the way to go, as they will be able to go to sleep at the end of the day with pride and self-respect. Of course, Amber Rose then called out Pink, as she performs at concerts wearing very little. Basically, it was a celeb shit storm where everyone had an opinion about everything. Renner re-posted Pink’s tweet with his own message to her, “Strength and honor my lady!”
5. Reese Witherspoon
Even America’s Sweetheart, Reese Witherspoon had something to say about the Kardashian family. I mean, Reese and the Kardashians are really, really opposites. The Kardashians rose to fame via a sex scandal and while they are media magicians, they still thrive on their sexualized images. Reese is a talented actress, who rose to fame because of her talent as opposed to a sexualized image. In fact, Reese is pretty friggin’ wholesome.
At the 2011 MTV Movie Awards, Reese was awarded The Generation Award and in her speech said, “I know it’s cool to be bad. I get it… But it’s also possible to make it in Hollywood without a reality show. When I came up in this business, if you made a sex tape, you were embarrassed and you hid it under your bed.”
Heard that, Reese. Girlfriend is pretty old school when it comes to making it in Hollywood. Of course, she’s classy AF and would never diss the Kardashians by name but she did totally shit on them without naming names.
4. Scott Disick
Scott Disick insults the Kardashian in almost every single episode of their show. Like, seriously.
When Kris said her favorite day of the year was when Oprah came to interview them, Scott replied with, “Not the day when Penelope was born? You heartless wrench.”
When Kim was excited that someone had sent them a free yoga membership, Scott responded with, “Thank God. You wouldn’t have been able to afford it.”
Basically, Scott was introduced in the show as Kourtney’s party boy boyfriend but then became the best character for his willingness to call out the Kardashians on all their bullshit. Seriously, he’s the best one. If he wasn’t on the show, it would be much, much less interesting.
Oh, there was also the time when he said, “I love Kim but she’s like the most boring person ever.”
3. David Cross
So, David Cross really, really does not get down with the Kardashian family. In an interview he put it all out there, saying, “They must sit there every day and go, ‘Um, uh, Kim, thank you so much for — remember when you sucked that guy’s d**k and taped it and then released it and leaked it? Thank you so much because now I’m on the cover of Sports Illustrated and I’m going to parties with Gucci Mane.’ And it helps having an awful, shallow whore of a mother. That helps as well — to whore out your kids to make money. I think that’s a great example, something we should all aspire to here in America.”
Holy shit. I mean, other people say things about the Kardashians but Cross really, really gave it to them, even calling Kris a shallow whore of a mother. In a way, it was a bit much but also, can you really not laugh at all when you read that? You at least have to respect David Cross for just saying how he really feels when so many other people would shy away from doing so.
2. Barack Obama
Yep, even our current president, Barack Obama, had something to say about the Kardashian family. In July 2013, Obama made a statement about raising his daughters, saying, “We weren’t exposed to the things we didn’t have in the same way kids these days are… Kids weren’t monitoring every day what Kim Kardashian was wearing, or where Kanye West was going on vacation, and thinking that somehow that was the mark of success.”
Obviously, this is not the worst thing Obama could have said about the family, but he is certainly making a comment on the effect the Kardashian family has on this generation of children and the way our society is changing as whole from the exposure to celebrity life.
Of course, mama bear Kris was pissed the hell off after Obama’s remark. She mentioned how hard of a worker Kim is and the fact that Kanye apparently never goes on vacation. She went on to say that she’s proud her daughter’s job affords her a 10,000 square foot house and that Obama’s job affords him a 55,000 square foot house so the pot was calling the kettle black or something… I think that was Kris’ point.
1. Shailene Woodley
Of all of the celebrities on this list, Shailene Woodley said hands down the deepest insult of all about the Kardashians. During a red carpet interview for Divergent, Woodley was asked to do her best Kylie Jenner selfie face. Woodley responded with, “I have no idea who that is, I’m sorry.”
Boom. Why is this the meanest thing to possibly say about the family? Well, because their careers are based on the fact that everyone knows who they are and cares about what they do. For Woodley to dismiss them in that manner is amazing.
Also, the quote or face she would have made would have been used as yet another way to keep Kylie Jenner in the news. The fact that she didn’t let her interview about her movie be hijacked for more Kardashian/Jenner bullsh*t press is awesome.
