Top 10 Things to Do While Visiting Las Vegas

Las Vegas is a great city and the casino culture is just one of them. The problem, of course, is that you probably would get stuck in the gambling table, thus depriving you of a chance of seeing the city’s other great attractions.

So next time you are in Las Vegas, practice discipline and self-control and limit your gambling to just around an hour or so. That way, you will have a lot more time touring the rest of the city. Better yet, bring along this guide so that you will know the top 10 things to do while visiting Las Vegas.

10. Mornings at the Buffet

One of the city’s best features is the breakfast buffet offered by the different hotels. The Payard at Caesars offers a great French breakfast, including a nice quiche and almond croissant, that is perfect for its intimate and elegant ambiance. Treasure Island, or T.I., also has nice food to complement its atmosphere that was created and designed by Adam Tihany. Wynn is arguably the best of the lot and will start your day just right.

9. Eat, Drink and Be Merry

The city has a lot of great bars and restaurants to choose from. Unwind at the Mandalay Bay, where you can choose from either the Foundation Room of the House of Blues or the Mix Lounge. Or drink at the Palms, where you can go to either the Playboy Club or the Moon. You can eat at the Fiamma Trattoria & Bar at the MGM. If money is no object, then you can try MGM’s other restaurants, like Atelier de Joel Robuchon, Craftsteak or Nobhill. Mandalay Bay has Aureole, Caesars Palace has Restaurant Guy Savoy and Palms has N9NE Steakhouse. You can also choose SW Steakhouse at the Wynn.

Watching other people is a great kind of activity. And the greatest form of watching people is watching them parade around in their swimsuits. You are already in Las Vegas, so you might as well indulge in looking at as much skin as possible. If sexy ladies are your thing, then go to the Rio Hotel where the off-duty dancers of the Sapphire Club hang out. College kids are usually at the Rehab at the Hard Rock Café. There are also adult pools around, like Bare at the Mirage, Tao Beach at the Venetian, Moorea Beach Club at Mandalay Bay and Venus at Caesars. Entrance fees apply, with women charged as much as $20 and men as much as $50.

7. Relax at the Spa

With so much going on at the casinos and the lively nightlife, it may be hard to think of Las Vegas as a relaxing destination. But believe it or not, the city actually boasts of some of the finest spas in the country. You can try out the Canyon Ranch at the Venetian or the Spa at the Bellagio. You will find your senses indulged.

6. The Club Scene

Even if rave music is not your thing, you should still try going to one of the city’s famous clubs. After all, most men hate arts but still end up visiting the Louvre when in Paris. Well okay, clubs may not necessarily be the equivalent of museums, but you get the drift. Some of the ore hip clubs include LAX and Cathouse at the Luxor, The Bank at the Bellagio, Tabu in MGM Grand, Tao at the Venetian and Pure at Caesars. Yearning for something more worldly? Head out to South Highland Drive or Industrial Road and visit Spearmint Rhino and Crazy Horse Too.

5. Ride the Coaster at the New York-New York

There is a hotel in Las Vegas that encapsulates Manhattan perfectly. And what better name can one give it than New York-New York. Touring a hotel has never been more fun than by riding New York-New York’s roller coaster. While it may not be as wild as the ones in theme parks, its roller coaster is still a fun and unique way of seeing the hotel’s every nook and cranny.

4. Visit the Shark Reef Aquarium

Head over to Mandalay Bay and cough up an additional $16 for a chance to enter the Shark Reef Aquarium. This is a pretty neat place, with half of its aquarium located outside. It features sharks, sea turtles, rays, crocodiles and even a Komodo dragon. And if you still have not gotten your fill, the hotel offers a channel especially dedicated to the Aquarium. It is on 24 hours a day.

3. Museums, Exhibits, Stores and Chapels

Art lovers can check out the Gallery of Fine Art at the Bellagio. Or you can also try the Liberace Museum. The Gun Store has a permanent exhibit and you can try shooting high-powered guns for less than $100. Or you can get married in one of the city’s many chapels.

2. Watch the Cirque du Soleil

Cirque

It may be expensive at around $165 per ticket, but this is the greatest circus not just in town but in the entire universe. It actually makes use of former gymnasts, some of whom are veterans of the Olympic Games, which is why the somersaults, catapults, tumbles and turns are all done quite perfectly. They also have pretty costumes to complement the act.

1. See the Bellagio Fountains

Viewing the Bellagio Fountains can bring a relaxing and satisfying feeling, the perfect ending to your day in Las Vegas. Just ask Brad Pitt, Matt Damon and the rest of George Clooney’s gang in “Ocean’s Eleven.” Of course, they actually have around $150 million worth of reasons to be satisfied at the end of that movie. Still, if there is one free hotel show that you should watch, then this is it. It runs every 30 minutes from three to eight in the evening and every 15 minutes thereafter until midnight. The fountain features 1,214 rockets that shoot up water up to 460 feet into the air. All the while, it will move along to the beat of the music of Frank Sinatra or other similar artists.
