All five members of the next series of the BBC television programme Dragons’ Den feature among Britain’s 2,000 wealthiest people in the 2011 Sunday Times Rich List. The wealthiest Dragon is fitness club owner Duncan Bannatyne, who has seen his fortune rise by 34% in the past year to £430m.
A newcomer this year to both the Rich List and Dragons’ Den is Hilary Devey, who has a £50m fortune derived from Pall-Ex, a Leicestershire-based haulage company she founded 15 years ago. Lower down the list comes a third Dragon, Deborah Meaden, with a £40m fortune which originates from her family’s holiday parks business.
The star of The Office, Ricky Gervais, joins the lowest rung of list with £32m, while Lord Sugar, host of The Apprentice, sits among the top 100 with a personal fortune of £770m. Another new entrant alongside Gervais on £32m is 24-year-old film star Robert Pattinson, who earns £8m a film as Edward Cullen in the Twilight series.
