The Top 10 Female Wrestlers in the WWE

Professional wrestling used to be a man’s sport.  We had Andre the Giant, Hulk Hogan, Ultimate Warrior, Randy “Macho Man” Savage, Undertaker, Mankind, Bret Hart, The Rock, Triple H and Shawn Michaels dominating the World Wrestling Federation for the longest time. It eventually became the World Wrestling Entertainment, or the WWE.

Female wrestlers, however, have become popular on their own. They have come a long way since the days of Chyna.  They now have their own tournaments and they have proven that they can come up with the professional wrestling moves that require a lot of athleticism and imagination. Here is a list of the top 10 female wrestlers in the WWE.

1. Trish Stratus

Her real name is Patricia Anne Stratigias. The Canadian professional wrestler started out as a model. She later joined the WWF where she was trained as a wrestler. She was chosen as the Babe of the Year by the WWE three times. Stratus was also a one time Hardcore Champion. She was also the Diva of the Decade. She is the most successful female wrestler in professional wrestling.

2. Victoria

Her real name is Lisa Marie Varon. This professional wrestler has Turkish and Puerto Rican descent. After training in the WWE, she made her debut in 2002. She thereafter won the WWE Women’s Championship, holding the belt twice in her career. She has since transferred to Total Nonstop Action, or TNA, Wrestling where she uses the name Tina.

3. Mickie James

Like Victoria, Mickie James is now with TNA Wrestling. But she had an extremely successful run in the WWE that lasted for five years. She made her debut in 2005 and was a five-time holder of the WWE Women’s Championship. She also had the distinction of simultaneously holding the Women’s Championship belt with the WWE Divas Championship.

4. Beth Phoenix

Her real name is Elizabeth Kocianski Carolan. She joined the WWE in 2005 and has held both WWE Women’s Championship and WWE Divas Championship. She is a regular on the Raw brand of the entertainment show.

5. Kelly Kelly

Her real name is Barbara Jean Blank, or Barbie Blank. She used to be a model before she signed up with the WWE in 2006. Her stock quickly rose and she was made a regular in Raw when she started competing more frequently. She challenged for the WWE Divas Championship, finally succeeding on her third attempt at grabbing the crown. Unfortunately, she lost the title after a mere four months when Beth Phoenix defeated her in a title matchup.

6. Eve Torres

Eve Torres started out as a model. She is also considered as a dancer and she dabbles in acting as well. In 2007, she joined the Diva Search competition of the WWE, winning the title and opening the doors for her to become a presenter for the program. She began training as a professional wrestler as well, eager to prove that she has the brawns to match her beauty. A couple of years later, in 2009, Torres finally became a full-fledged professional wrestler. Her efforts were rewarded as she has become a two-time winner of the WWE Divas Championship.

7. Brie Bella

Her real name is Brianna Monique Garcia Colace and she is part of the wrestling Bella twins (see number nine). She took up the ring name of Brie Bella when she and her twin sister joined the WWE in 2007. She later on became a regular in SmackDown, debuting in the program in 2008. After three years of trying, Brie finally won the WWE Divas Championship by beating Eve Torres in April 2011. Sadly, Brie and her twin have both left the entertainment company.

8. Rosa Mendes

She is a Canadian professional wrestler whose real name is Milena Leticia Roucka. She, however, chose the ring name of Rosa Mendes when she joined the WWE. She first made her mark when she joined the WWE Diva Search competition in 2006. Though she did not win, the entertainment company still signed her up to a contract. She then commenced training as a professional wrestler. After a couple of years, she debuted in Raw in 2008 where Mendes was associated with the group of Beth Phoenix and Santino Marella. Mendes has also been part of Florida Championship Wrestling, or FCW. She was given the title of Queen of FCW.

9. Nikki Bella

Her real name is Stephanie Nicole Garcia Colace and she is part of the wrestling Bella twins (see number seven).  She took up the name of Nikki Bella when she and her twin sister joined the WWE in 2007. Unlike her twin sister however, she has participated in different WWE brands, like Raw, SmackDown and ECW. Her sister Brie was a regular in SmackDown only. A year after Brie won the WWE Divas Championship against Eve Torres, Nikki duplicated her twin sister’s feat by beating Beth Phoenix for the same title in April 2012. Like Brie, however, Nikki has since left the entertainment program.

10. Natalya

Remember the Hart Foundation, that Canadian family of wrestlers that used to feature the likes of Owen Hart, the British Bulldog and Jim “Anvil” Neidhart? They also had in their group the charismatic Bret Hart, who is probably the best there is, the best there was and the best there ever will be. They all had titles to boast of in the old WWF, from tag team titles to individual crowns and King of the Rings accolade. The members of the original group have since retired, with Owen passing away after an accident in 1999. The Hart Foundation, however, has since regrouped with Tyson Kidd, David Hart Smith and Natalya. Natalya joined the WWE in 2007, joining the main roster in 2008 where she allied herself with Victoria. When the Hart Foundation was reestablished as the Hart Dynasty, it won the unified tag team title. Natalya would later win the WWE Divas Championship, beating LayCool in a two-on-one handicap match.
