In general, people can take out their anger in a variety of different ways. From texts to the wonders of social media, the technological advancements the world has achieved over the last decade are absolutely mind-blowing. In these ways, you can ensure that whoever you’re directing your comment to will absolutely get the message ,and you may even get your own little army to back you up.
This particular way of communicating may come up in a wide array or forms, but none seem to be as popular as Twitter. While you may only have 140 characters to express yourself (without an add-on that brings the character count to just over 300 that is), celebrities seem to have a tendency of expressing themselves on it and, well, a Twitter feud typically emerges. From one-sided fights to an all out war, the varying degrees of anger and bad language will all depend on the situation, but the attention that it grabs is almost inconceivable. So, are you curious as to who was involved in some of the biggest star-studded word wars in our history? Go on and let the stupendous drama fly !
20. Lindsay Lohan vs. Dr. Phil
Given, this particular feud may not have anything to do with what television therapist Dr. Phil did to Lindsay Lohan directly, but it was his treatment of her mother which then led to a Twitter rampage. Sure, she and her mother, Dina Lohan, may have had moments where they didn’t exactly see eye to eye in the past but she was still willing to step up for her when she thought it necessary. After remaining silent for weeks after the disastrous interview that Dr. Phil conducted with her, she finally said something about it on Twitter, which then caused quite a stir. She called Dr. Phil a fraud and even claimed that he was taking advantage of her! While that can easily be called into question, we all know that the wonders of video editing can manipulate the footage in any way possible, which means that they could have hypothetically mashed a bunch of snippets from the hour-long interview to make Dina seem as if she was under the influence and dodging questions.
19. Taylor Swift vs. Nicki Minaj
This particular exchange of words occurred in 2015, right around the same time that the MTV Video Music Awards nominations came out. Keeping within the context of this particular subject, Nicki Minaj was pissed off because “Anaconda” music video broke all sorts of records and wasn’t nominated for Video of the Year. On Twitter, she was unafraid to mention that she feared that she had somehow missed the deadline, and even brought the issue of race into the conversation at large. At the same time, Taylor Swift‘s “Bad Blood” was within that aforementioned list and she, within her right as an artist, was celebrating by any means possible. After Minaj tweeted about how it seemed like videos that celebrate very slim bodies get nominated for awards, Taylor Swift shot back saying that she loves and supports Nicki and it seems out of character to speak out like this against other women – as it was very possible that her spot could have been taken by a male artist. Nicki then explained that she was saying nothing against Swift and she loves her too but then prompted her to speak about the inherent racism that is ever-present in the entertainment industry. While Swift may have never got in on that particular conversation, people from both “teams” did and most were actually on Minaj’s side because she brought up a very valid point.
18. Ariana Grande vs. Bette Midler
Bette Midler may have been a little more current when she was younger, but she still knows how to make a splash. In 2014, Bette Midler was asked about her feelings on the how the pop music realm is constantly sexualized and she couldn’t help but come up with a better example then the then 21-year-old Ariana Grande. She basically explained that she has a beautiful, high wholesome voice, but the way that she slithers across couches makes her look ridiculous. Given, she also made it clear that sex does sell and it was probably her management’s choice to have her do what she does – but still. Either way, Ariana found out what had been said about her and decided that she was going to take the high road and tweet kind things.
17. Zayn Malik vs. Calvin Harris
After Zayn Malik retweeted a fan’s post on the differences between Miley Cyrus and Taylor Swift, Calvin Harris couldn’t help but put his two cents into the matter. Harris came to Swift’s defense and explained that some people depend on the money they make from their music to survive. After telling him that he not only made a big fool of himself and didn’t understand the situation at hand, Zayn fired back calling him old and said that he was the one who didn’t understand. After a bit of a confusing fight where harsh words were exchanged on both ends, as well as from some fans, Calvin Harris explained that he was just commenting on the quote… not making a personal attack on his fellow artist. That wasn’t quite enough for Zayn, though, because he then had to point out that he, too, writes his own stuff and couldn’t help but call Harris a d***head in the process.
16. Charlie Sheen vs. Denise Richards
It is unclear if they were just putting on a good face for their children, but the anger that resides within Charlie Sheen seemed to dominate him like nothing else. After hearing that Denise Richards apparently called him “a dead-beat dad,” he immediately went to take his anger out on her, using one of the most public sources available – Twitter. Sheen called Richards “the worst mom alive” as well as other hurtful things such as a “heretic washed-up piglet shame pile” and an “evil terrorist sack of landfill rash.” He even got so angry that he wrote an open letter to the media about her, which was basically full of insults. This letter has since been taken down. Thankfully, Denise Richards didn’t sink down to his level and simply replied with a “Happy Dad’s Day” tweet, as this all occurred on Father’s Day. However, this didn’t stop Sheen from then tweeting about how Denise apparently “kidnapped” his children away from him and how she will not let him see them. She called him out right away and wasn’t afraid to ask him to stop this rant for the kid’s sake.
15. Kendra Wilkinson vs. Holly Madison
Holly Madison was Hugh Hefner‘s number one girlfriend when her co-worker Kendra Wilkinson, and a former stripper, moved came into the picture. She knew that something was up from the very beginning. Despite Kendra’s intimate relations with a significantly older Hefner, her only concern was how big her room was going to be and how she could possibly possess more worldly possessions. However, the two of them were seemingly friends anyway. Holly Madison was sadly mistaken though. During an interview that Kendra had with E!, she claimed that she was never friends with Holly or Bridget Marquardt, another woman in the mansion. So, after Holly called her fake in a text and Kendra responded saying that their “friendship” was just part of the job, they cut ties forever. But that wasn’t enough for Holly Madison, so she let out more rage via Twitter.
14. Zayn Malik vs. Max George
What started off as a pretty innocent comment quickly snowballed into a huge Twitter feud between two relatively popular boy bands, One Direction and The Wanted. While a lot of the action seems to be revolving around Zayn Malik and Max George, respectively, all of the band members have gotten into the action. This all began after Zayn called Max a geek on his microblogging page and then Max tweeting about being one. Simple enough, right? Wrong. Zayn then called him a wannabe. From there, the rest of the band members chimed in and threw various forms of blows, mostly via the written word but all of which was absolutely insulting. To give you an idea about how bad it got, at one point Malik backhandedly told George that One Direction’s vocal ability is triumphant over The Wanted’s and, after he responded by saying that he shouldn’t drink Bud because it makes him cranky. For some reason Zayn fired back by calling him “chlamydia boy.” Needless to say, there has been a looming feeling that this will get physical sometime soon and apparently, the one reason why it hasn’t already is because of One Direction’s blooming success.
13. Chief Keef vs. Katy Perry
After the generally family friendly singer Katy Perry went to Twitter to express how she was worried about the world that we live in if music continues to Chief Keef‘s music, she quickly learned to keep her mouth shut. While Chief may not have noticed her tweet right away, the moment that he did, his inherent violent tendencies showed face very quickly and it was downright scary. While Perry may not have made any personal attacks, she might as well have threatened his family because he immediate jumped to misogynistic commentary, threatening her with violence and letting people know that he was going to release a song which would be dissing Katy Perry. Once Katy realized the sort of reaction this Chicago-born rapper had to her one comment, she quickly apologized and said that she had no idea that it was even his song! She then continued to explain that her tweet was more based on the generation’s constant need to feel intoxicated than anything else, and how she has even been a fan of his music in the past.
12. Amanda Bynes vs. Rihanna
This is just one of those situations that want way too far way too quickly and it was probably all because of the substance abuse that Amanda Bynes was taking part in back in 2013. As if right out of the blue, Bynes seemed to have taken out all of her anger and frustration out on Rihanna and, while there may have not been too much firing back on the Barbados-born babe’s end, it didn’t stop her from being under continual attack all the same. A lot of the comments that Amanda made on the social media site were hateful and, frankly, quite racist, as they primarily revolved around how Rihanna was trying to be white and sucking at it, as well as the reason why Chris Brown beat her was because she wasn’t pretty enough. Crazy, huh? RiRi was ignoring these distasteful comments and continued to write about normal things like how she was just saw her love Stella McCartney and all was good. That was until Amanda quickly took another jab at the innocent star by saying how she probably had to call everyone and their mother to get someone to hang out with her because, frankly, no one cares about her and, to top it all off, Amanda was even thinking about naming her newest dog Rihanna! After some silence on both fronts, Amanda simply tweeted “I’m not crazy” and Rihanna retweeted it as if to mock her.
11. Rihanna vs. Charlie Sheen
The feud between these two all started when Charlie Sheen and his fiancée Scottine Sheen (aka Brett Rossi) went out to celebrate her birthday and ended up at the same restaurant as the Bajan songstress Rihanna. Seeing as Scotti is a big fan, Sheen sent off a request to see if they could possibly have a meet and greet. She, however, respectfully declined because there were just way too many paparazzi outside the restaurant for her liking. While he was apparently not a fan of her anyway, his fiancée was disappointed that it couldn’t work out so he went directly to the Twitter-verse to express his distaste in the situation. In the train of tweets that he sent out which composed his rant, the most notable moments were when he called her “the Village idiot,” and told her that making time to see fans was a necessary part of the job. As a response to what he had said, Rihanna then changed her Twitter banner to her signing a fan’s object, superimposed his face onto the fan’s body and called him an “old queen” whose diapers were all bundled up.
10. Nicki Minaj vs. Lil’ Kim
It may be difficult to understand why this feud has been going on for so long but once you wrap your head around the entire manner it seems to actually make sense. Sure, it may be difficult to really point a finger of blame regarding who started this entire kerfuffle to begin with but, one thing that we know for sure, is that it won’t be ending anytime soon. It all seems to have become public after Lil’ Kim’s mix tape, Black Friday, was released but there’s definitely more to the story than just that. Considering that there were obvious shots taken at the singer as everything from the cover art to explicit lyrics were all jabs at Nicki Minaj, there was some definite anger there. Either way, Lil’ Kim was ecstatic when she was able to sell 113,000 copies via PayPal in a matter of 24 hours which then made her the biggest seller on PayPal ever. However, Nicki Minaj just had to rain on her parade and call her a big liar which was hen shortly followed by her song Pink Friday hitting number one on the Billboard charts eleven weeks after its debut. A little while later, she even went on a Hot 97 radio show hosted by Peter Rosenberg to clear up that she didn’t have any beef with Lil’ Kim but even those actions were completely misconstrued by her and her fans! Taken as more of a publicity stunt than anything else, the Twitter feud began once again and the shots just kept on firing. In 2014, Billboard even called to T.I. to possibly either bring an end to this situation or at least explain why it’s been going on and he seems to think that it’s because Nicki Minaj is just a younger, more current version of Lil’ Kim’s former self.
9. Lady Gaga vs. Perez Hilton
This all spawned from a less-than-perfect interview that Perez Hilton conducted with Lady Gaga regarding her Born this Way album. After he made her cry and wouldn’t stop filming despite her distress, she figured that it was time for them to part ways because she realized that he was no longer the friend that she thought that he was. This then led to him texting and tweeting Gaga explaining how she was bringing forth a “fake” persona and that her fame had changed her as a person. To top it all off, he even sent her a picture via text where she was in a wheelchair, which actually happened because of an accident that caused a hip injury, with the word KARMA across the back with Madonna pointing a gun to her head! Needless to say, she began to feel quite unsafe and this feeling was amplified when she was made aware that he was actually in her building’s lobby. She was made aware of this by a fan on Twitter and she started to get quite hysterical. While it may have been an innocent act on his part, it’s easy to see why she would misconstrue his actions and was still no reason for him to tease her.
8. Drake vs. Meek Mill
When Meek Mill claimed that fellow rapper Drake was using a ghostwriter, which basically means that someone was writing for him, he didn’t get an immediate reaction out of Drake. On top of that, Hitman Holla reached out to Drake using a direct messaging system and then Hitman posted screenshots of the conversation onto Twitter. All in all, Drake didn’t have much to say. A few days after this conversation, Drake posted two freestyle songs on Twitter, which were directly related to the beef that Meek had with him where he took shots at his “Twitter fingers,” and how Nicki Minaj, his girlfriend, was way more successful than he is and more! The fans went wild and posted memes of all sorts, all of which supported Drake 100%. To top it all off, even Meek Mill’s apology wasn’t satisfactory because Drake literally had to read it out 10 times to wrap his head around it!
7. Alec Baldwin vs. George Stark
The story was about Alec Baldwin‘s wife tweeting while the proceedings of James Gandolfini‘s funeral were taking place, which was evidently something that Baldwin did not respond kindly to. What this led to, however, was more than just a few tweets stating how his wife would never do such a thing, especially considering how close they were, but rather blatant threats directed toward the writer paired with an explicit homophobic commentary. By calling him names along the lines of a “toxic little queen” and stating that he was going to beat him up, Alec Baldwin’s rage really got the best of him. While he may have since apologized for his homophobic slurs, it still doesn’t make what he did right but, then again, when have you known Baldwin to restrain himself in any sort of situation? Never.
6. Alec Baldwin vs. Shia LaBeouf
It all began when they were supposed to be working on a Broadway production, Orphans, together and then Shia LaBeouf left because of what the producers called “creative differences.” What actually happened, however, was a big character clash between the 26-year-old method actor and Alec Baldwin. LaBeouf took his role in the production very seriously and was set to freak out Baldwin from day one— sleeping in the park for three weeks straight, all while slowly losing your mind can do that to someone. At one point, enough was enough and Shia was no longer involved in the show, and Alec Baldwin was seemingly fine with it. That is, until LaBeouf writes that those involved in theatre are brash, and not great actors, and this really got on Baldwin’s nerves because, unlike his counterpart, he has been involved in this kind of performance art before. Slowly but surely, the fuse dried out and they seem to be on okay terms now but, one thing’s for sure, that duo will probably never even try to work together again.
5. Snoop Dogg vs. Iggy Azalea
Snoop Dogg was probably not of the right mind when went onto Instagram and posted that picture of the white man with the cornrows and compared it to Iggy Azalea, with no makeup on but that doesn’t make it right either. While Iggy Azalea never really fired back, she did post about the irony behind how despite being that ugly, his bodyguards always want to take pictures of her. In addition, she couldn’t help but comment on the sudden change of behaviour and how shocked she was that he would do such a thing. However, that wasn’t the end of it either, as Snoop Dogg kept on bashing her on Twitter and Instagram, and even posted a video where he threatened the well being of Iggy Azalea! Eventually, Iggy’s mentor and Snoop’s friend T.I. stepped in, called him up and spoke to him.
4. Kim Kardashian vs. Piers Morgan (and A Few Others)
You probably remember when Kim Kardashian took the Internet by storm when she posted a naked selfie on Twitter, but can you recall all of the celebrity backlash that came about as a result? While there seemed to be a very two-sided debate revolving around the issue of the sexualized female body image and its purpose, no one was quite as vocal as Good Morning Britain‘s Piers Morgan. Within the safety of the Internet, he had the audacity to mention Kayne West‘s financial issues and even offered to buy this 35-year-old mother clothing! Being the class act that she is, however, she simply let him know that his comment was not by any means an appropriate one to make, especially considering that she’s married. However, he was not the only one to take issue with what she was doing either. Celebrities like Bette Midler and Chloe Moretz were also not afraid to stick their necks out for the “integrity of women everywhere,” and deemed that her acts were teaching young women that their bodies are more important than their minds. Kim later replied saying that she was doing the very opposite of such, she was liberating the female form from its constraints and condemning shaming to its utmost degree.
3. Taylor Swift vs. Katy Perry
This whole fiasco involving Taylor Swift and Katy Perry has been one of the most talked about conflicts within the past few years. From 2008 until 2012, these two ladies were seemingly very close friends and couldn’t help but be seen out in public together. With the slow but steady decrease of tweets directed toward the other, it was easy to see that something was up. While their issues may have only been released to the general public in 2014, a lot of the issues seem to have started right around the time that Katy Perry began dating John Mayer, Taylor Swift’s ex. After that, the heat was really starting to be evident after the dancers that Katy booked for her California Girls tour in 2011 auditioned for (and were booked for) Swift’s Red tour the next year. After this particular incident, some cryptic messages seemed to start spawning from Katy Perry’s Twitter account that referenced this event and things just got weirder from there. This then sparked the video for “Bad Blood,” filled with Katy Perry references and led by a posse of strong females. Long story short, this back and forth has been going on for so long that you probably get the gist of it by now.
2. Brandi Glanville vs. LeAnn Rimes
This all began when LeAnn Rimes and Eddie Cibrian, Brandi Glanville‘s husband at the time, starting having an affair. This eventually led to the family splitting up so that he could start a new life with the new country star. Triggering an intense but completely understandable emotional response from the reality star, she claimed that Rimes was a homewrecker and that was just the tip of the iceberg. This then led to Rimes going on national television saying that despite wanting to keep her mouth shut so that she doesn’t have to get involved with Glanville’s beef, she can’t help but yell at the television screen whenever her reality show is on because she’s just so fed up with her antics. During one of Brandi Glanville’s book releases, she brought out a paper cutout of LeeAnn Rimes and pushed it around a little. This was the same book that she wrote that her children’s step-mother is suffering from a variety of issues including mental instability.
1. Kayne West vs. Wiz Khalifa
You didn’t think that we could possibly forget the biggest Twitter feud of 2016 and possibly the century, did you? Kayne West and Wiz Khalifa seem to have a strange relationship because they can go from “close” friends to at each others’ throats within moments. It all started when Wiz Khalifa made a critical commentary about Kayne West’s newest album. In his opinion, the album wasn’t “wavy” enough to merit the name (it was previously called Waves), and that bothered him. Kayne left the comment alone but the moment that he saw “kk” written in a post and assumed that it was about his wife Kim Kardashian, West he absolutely lost it. As a result of his rage, there were a plenitude of mean and demeaning comments aimed at Wiz Khalifa’s musical talents, sense of style, and even his current girlfriend and mother of his child, Amber Rose. While Wiz later explained that the “kk” that he was referring to was a strand of marijuana, Amber Rose couldn’t help but strike back hard after she was dragged into what turned into an all-out war. Everything seems fine and dandy now, but who knows how long this peace treaty will last.
