There are three types of car people in the world: those who have a passion for these beautiful machines, those who simply view them as a means of transportation and last but not least, those who view them as more of a hassle than anything else.
It’s a given that for one to have a massive car collection, you must possess the means to do so. As far as fame is concerned, the definition of what it means to be a celebrity is a vague one, especially in today’s ever-expanding technological age; whether it be because of a musical skill, the possession of some sort of gift when it comes to sports or having caught the acting bug, they have that extra something special that makes them an asset.
In the same sort of scale of the different car people, there are three different types of cars: the crazy expensive ones, those that most can afford and sadly, those that have been so beaten up, that these once glorious pieces of machinery are basically being given away. But, for the case of this list, the ones that cost a pretty penny are the ones that we’ll be talking about. So, let your imagination run wild and feast your eyes on some of the most expensive cars owned by celebrities!
20. Maybach 57S – Rick Ross
Sure, Rick Ross may be known for his talents as an entrepreneur and rapper, but he recently purchased a Maybach 57 and he’s even been seen driving around with it every once in a while. Here’s an unconventional car fact for you: you can easily hook up your PlayStation to it! Anyway, back to business. With six separate brake calipers and 528 LEDs acting as taillights, you can rest assured that you’ll not only be seen, but be able to stop just in time. Put it this way, when you’re hosting two turbochargers and a V12, you want to make sure that your car has some integrated safety features in it. Then again, it can be used for those moments when you just need to get away, too (because, let’s face it, the interior will feel enough like home that you’ll barely notice the difference).
19. Mercedes SLR McLaren – Britney Spears
Owned by celebrities such as Britney Spears, Floyd Mayweather and Jay Leno, this car costs at least $450,000, and is one of the few street legal vehicles on the road that is a direct result of a partnership between Mercedes and McLaren. Together, they created a two-seater sport car that has as much performance as it does beauty with its swing-wing doors and rootedness in car tradition. Built on the glory of the race cars from the 1950s, there is something that sets this machine apart from the rest of the four wheelers on the road. And the best part is that it’s actually practical and safe enough to use as a daily driver!
18. Ferrari Enzo – 50 Cent
Nicolas Cage, 50 Cent as well as many other celebrities, who are mainly in the world of hip hop, own this $670,000 sports car – whose value is probably now closer to $1 million but still. This mid-engine coupe has a V12 under the hood which allows this car to put out 485-foot pounds of torque when the engine is revving at 5,500rpm. (Which isn’t too shabby at all when you consider that the engine only has 366 cubic inches of displacement!) Then again, when you consider that this car can do 0-62 miles per hour in a time of 3.7 seconds, you’ll be glad that the brakes are not only 14.9 inches, but made of carbon ceramic.
17. Lamborghini Aventador – Kanye West
This $700,000 Lamborghini was owned by none other than rapper and entrepreneur Kayne West, until he finally decided to sell it in 2013 for a more family friendly vehicle. It was probably a smart choice on his end considering that it was Kim Kardashian who gave him this matte black beauty as a birthday gift. It’s just funny to think that he had treated it like his baby until it was crushed by the electric gates that are used to secure his then-girlfriend’s mansion in Los Angeles (he wasn’t even the one behind the wheel). It’s just sad that despite only having 1,433 miles on it, the car sold for a mere $445,000.
16. Porsche 959 – Jerry Seinfeld
Despite Jerry Seinfeld’s spending towards his cars, he actually spent $700,000 on this, but that’s not shocking considering that he’s probably one of the biggest Porsche enthusiasts out there. That being said, when you find an ultra rare car for a pretty affordable price and you are driven by that undying love that can only really be expressed by someone like Shakespeare, you will most likely stop at nothing until you finally get your hands on it. When you consider that there were only 337 of the fastest street-legal car of its time built you would probably do the same if you were in his shoes. With its twin turbo six-cylinder boxer engine and equipped with run-flats, this precious machine is bad to the bone.
15. 1997 McLaren F1 – Rowan Atkinson
Rowan Atkinson is known as one of the biggest car collectors in Hollywood, and this beauty was just one of the cars in his collection. He has even been known to take it out for a spin every once in a while. Despite paying $745,732 on it and actually having fun with the money that he’s made over the years – he’s crashed it twice, so it’s probably better off that he sold it before anything else bad happened. Then again, at least he got some fun out of it. Having put 41,000 miles on his 241mph car, he was able to take advantage of all that it had to offer him.
14. Maybach Xenatec – Samuel Eto’o
While Samuel Eto’o may not be the typical person you think of when you hear the word “celebrity,” his face is well-known in the sports world due to his mad soccer skills. This being said, with fame comes big contracts and loads of money, which probably explains why he spent $847,347 on his Maybach Xenatec Coupe. Then again, when you consider that Maybach is Mercedes’ ultra-luxury brand, there must be something special about it. Whether it is the 6L engine or wonderful interior, this two-door sport car just held a special place in Eto’s heart that is filled with a sentiment for cars.
13. Hennessey Venom GT Spyder – Steven Tyler
Steven Tyler may not be the hottest celebrity in Hollywood in any respect, but his taste in cars is undeniable. By spending $1.1 million on his Hennessey, he not only invested in a beautiful piece of machinery, but a car of which only six were ever built. If exclusivity’s your thing, you can even try to buy it since he recently announced that he will be selling it and giving the money to charity. So, what will you get for the price if you decide to go for it? Not only will you have the knowledge that this car was basically designed for Mr. Tyler himself considering that he’s the one who requested it as a convertible, but a 7-litre V8 twin-turbo engine that can reach just over 200 miles an hour in less than 16 seconds!
12. McLaren P1 – Deadmau5
Sure, this may not be the rarest car to see but it does have two quite famous owners: Leno and Deadmau5. This particular McLaren can be yours for a whopping $1,155,000, and you’ll be getting a limited-edition car to boot! Its hybrid drive train mixed with technology inspired by the racetrack and carbon fiber integration means that it’s not only a beauty but super light-weight and responds to your every move. All in all, it’s a great choice for any car enthusiast. But, just don’t do what Deadmau5 did for his first car wrap, because chances are you’ll be hated by any petrol head that even sees you from the corner of their eye.
11. Ferrari LaFerrari – Justin Beiber
Canadian singer Justin Bieber has definitely gone a long way since his YouTube days, able to afford the Ferrari LaFerrai at $1.4 million and joining the likes of other celebrities like Gordan Ramsay and Lewis Hamilton who also own the car. The 2015 version of this particular hyper car produces 950 horsepower from a 6.3-litre V12 engine, which means that it can actually do 0-62 miles per hour in less than 3 seconds. You can also reach a top speed of 217 miles per hour, which is definitely an admirable trait. Funny enough, you wouldn’t expect all that to come from a hybrid.
10. Bugatti Veyron – Lil’ Wayne
There are too many celebrities that own this car, and it varies in price anywhere from the $1.7 to $2.7 million range. Some celebs who own the Bugatti include The Game, Simon Cowell, Birdman, Lil’ Wayne, and Flo Rida, among others. Fancy, huh? With its 8-litre W-16 engine it’s sure to bring any experienced driver to their knees given the right conditions. And, if you’re looking to pick up the ladies, just remember that a lot of celebrities own one, so they must be doing something right.
9. Aston Martin One-77 – Samuel Eto’o
Yes, Eto’o makes the list again and this is no surprise considering that his entire car collection is valued at over $4 million! In this case, his Aston Martin One-77 costed him about $1,792,750, but when you consider that you’re purchasing one of the rarest cars that Britain has ever made, you feel a little bit better about dropping that amount of cash on a car. Also, it’s not like you’re not getting something spectacular in return. With its 7.31-litre V12 you may expect it to drink gas, but most fast cars do. In this case, you get 553 foot-pounds of torque and 750 horsepower so that’s pretty awesome. Besides, he also let’s the world bask in its glory as he has been seen driving around different parts of Europe in this rare beauty.
8. Pagani Zonda 760LH – Lewis Hamilton
We all know that F1 drivers get paid a pretty penny, so where better to spend it than on cars? The aforementioned Hamilton has been known as one of the best race car drivers in history, and this passion has spanned beyond his Formula 1 experience, reaching his personal car collection. When he ended up spending $2,152,380 on a Pagani Zonda 760RS, he couldn’t help but show it off to the media and it’s safe to say that you would too if you owned it. Then again, the LH in the title was actually named after him considering that the car was specifically designed for the athlete. Having the ability to produce 760 horsepower, its manual gearbox is not for every driver but when you make a living off it, it’s safe to say that you can handle whatever the car throws at you and that was true until he crashed it in 2015 which, in turn, broke the hearts of car enthusiasts everywhere.
7. Bugatti Chiron – Afrojack
Whether this is sheer rumor or not is hard to say but, if it’s true, the Dutch DJ who goes by the name Afrojack has been doing quite well for himself considering that he was able to drop about $2.5 million on the Bugatti Chiron. However, when you consider that the estimated horsepower is over 1,500, it just goes to show that sometimes, power comes with a price. With those 1,500 horses, you get a top speed of about 284mph, which is absolutely fantastic when you’re living in Europe – considering that their speed limits are nothing compared to what we have here in North America. So, you’ll be able to take full advantage of this limited edition super car in those parts.
6. 1964 Aston Martin DB5 – Elle Macpherson
Elle Macpherson must either have a huge passion for James Bond or for cars, considering that she bought the Aston Martin DB5 for $4,302,840! This being said, the 4-litre inline six engine executes 288 foot-pounds of torque and still has an acceptable 282 horsepower, which really isn’t too shabby – especially considering its age. Simply having the ability to go from 0-60 in 8.1 seconds is pretty good when you realize that some of the cars that are even on today’s market can barely compete with those numbers. While it may not be the quickest car in this list, the vintage nature and heritage that is behind it makes up for all of it.
5. Koenigsegg CCXR Trevita – Floyd Mayweather
Mayweather spent about $5 million on one of the most expensive cars in the world, but when you’re a world famous boxer, you can definitely afford such an expenditure. Some may wonder why it was so expensive but the answer to that is a simple one: its white carbon fiber bodywork that is too unique not to be desired. Unlike the more popular choice, tinting the black carbon fiber, this special blend actually changed the color of the material itself! With its double wishbone suspension, you can rest assured that this 1,018bhp car is stable beyond belief, and that’s a good thing – especially if he ever decides to drive this beauty.
4. McLaren F1 – Wyclef Jean
This supercar’s starting price is $5,580,000, but that hasn’t stopped celebrities like Wyclef Jean and Jay Leno from buying it. Then again, can you really blame them? With its glorious shape thanks to the artistic mastery of Gordon Murray and roots within the world of F1, this streetcar is spiritually comprised by a piece of the racetrack. With well over 600bhp under the hood thanks to the BMW V12 engine that’s under the hood, the moment that you put the pedal down you know that you will experience the thrill of a lifetime… Then again, what else could you expect from one of the fastest super cars on the road?
3. 2005 Ferrari Enzo – Pope John Paul II
Sure, Pope John Paul II may not have spent $6,050,000 on his Ferrari Enzo as he received it as a gift, but this rare car is still in his possession and that makes him the coolest pope ever! Having been dubbed the Final Enzo, Ferrari made the 400th of this car especially for his Holiness, and it is one of the most unique versions of this particular model out there. Having been finished in Rosso Scuderia, a color most often seen on Ferrari Scuderia cars, this car was unlike any one of its kind. That being said, it was kindly accepted, but humbly sold at auction as per his request, and all of the proceeds were then donated to help the victims of the tsunami that had hit Southeast Asia.
2. Maybach Excelero – Jay Z
Jay Z’s Maybach Excelero was able to be in his collection and considering that he spent $8 million on it, he’s probably so glad that he still owns it – unlike fellow rapper Birdman. Jay Z is special in the sense that he owns the concept and the simple fact that it looks like the Batmobile is pretty cool, too. This car is also quite unique, considering that it’s not every day that you have Mercedes Benz create a car in partnership with a tire company (in this case Fulda). On a separate note, it even set the record for the fastest speed done in a limousine on series-production tires once it reached 218.38 miles per hour back in 2005. All in all, if you’re looking for the spaciousness of a limo mixed with the sportiness of a Ferrari you may want to look into one of these.
1. 1963 Ferrari 250 GTO – Chris Evans
While Chris Evans may not be that well known on this side of the world, this British radio host and new presenter of the revamped car show Top Gear spent a whopping $17,224,080 on his Ferrari 250 GTO. When you have a passion for a specific brand you find a way and, in his case, he sold his 250 GT LWB California Spyder and 250GT SWB Berlinetta – which gave him an extra $5 million plus to spend on his love. By investing in what can only be described as part of racing history, his particular GTO features the Series II GTO bodywork, which is rare for such a car and a 3-litre V12 engine that can put out 302bhp (which was a lot for the time). His story just goes to prove that it may take a while, but dreams really can become true.
