The Bond Girl. Since the debut of the James Bond franchise, she has been a standard for every movie. An utterly gorgeous woman, often dressed hot as hell and pure sex appeal to match 007. Often, it’s an ally who helps him or the key love interest for that movie. Other times, she can be the “bad girl” to make herself even hotter. So often they get won over by Bond himself to end up in his bed, some damsels in distress but others truly strong and fun characters.
Trying to gauge who is the hottest of the bunch is tough as there have been so many and several have established great careers outside of the films. Again, deciding the best is tough but it’s worth it as Monica Bellucci is ready to join these illustrious ranks. Here are the 20 hottest Bond ladies and a reminder of a key element that has made the series such a long-lasting franchise.
20. Pam Bouvier
License to Kill is darker than most Bond movies and for good reason. When his old friend Felix Leiter is maimed and his wife murdered by a drug lord, Bond quits MI-6 and goes on a quest for revenge. Pam is Leiter’s DEA partner, a former Marine who handles herself well blasting a shotgun in a bar when she and Bond are attacked. While she plays more the tomboy, Pam cleans up very nicely when she and Bond hit a casino together, including a great shot of her brushing aside her dress to show the revolver placed at her leg. Her bad-ass demeanor carries through the film so it’s no wonder Bond picks her at the end and Lowell showing a stronger but still sexier lady than the Bond Girls of the past.
19. Paris Carver
Lois Lane and Seinfeld conquest, Teri Hatcher can add Bond Girl to her list of accolades. In Tomorrow Never Dies, she’s the wife of the movie’s villain, Elliot Carver who once had a relationship with Bond. It didn’t end well as proven by her slapping him when they meet again but she can’t deny the attraction is still there. Their encounter is great as we see her bare back as she’s stripped, Hatcher always having a body that won’t quit (especially that famous chest) and it’s easy to see why Bond wants her back. Her end was sad and sudden as Hatcher made the character so alive and reminding us of the sexy appeal she has that’s never gone away.
Her role in Skyfall is brief but Marlohe makes the most of it. The shots of her in a nightclub in black dress and makeup, her husky voice carrying on, she is utterly stunning and you can’t take your eyes off her. It continues in her encounter with Bond as she warns him of going after her boss although she’s the one who pays the price. Yet with those gorgeous eyes and body, Marlohe made her performance a highlight of a great movie and how well you can do with your limited screen time.
A classic of the series, Thunderball has Bond trying to stop SPECTRE’s attempt to blackmail the world with nuclear missiles. Domino is the mistress of Largo, the eye-patch-wearing SPECTRE agent and her arrival is great meeting Bond while scuba diving in a swimsuit, looking sexy as hell. Their banter is fun as he enlists her aid for a later beach encounter that sets up the classic “he got the point” one-liner and she aids him in the final battle. On land Domino was fun but in the water was better as Auger showcases one of the best of the Connery Bond Girls that helps make this movie a blast.
16. Tiffany Case
A wild adventure (even by Bond standards), Diamonds Are Forever has Bond tracking diamond smuggling through some wild turns and adventures. A smuggler who mistakenly believes Bond is a major diamond thief, she shows off from the start switching wigs from brunette to redhead, smart and sassy with a fun attitude. Even learning the truth, she keeps going into things, showing herself off, especially the finale when she dons a bikini while on Blofeld’s oil tanker headquarters. Her attempts to help Bond secret a tape leads the film’s best line (“Showing a bit more cheek than usual, my dear”) and livens up an otherwise rough movie.
15. Christmas Jones
Yes, we can all agree that having Denise Richards playing a nuclear scientist is probably the most ludicrous casting in Bond movie history. But you can’t deny how incredibly sexy as hell she looks in The World is Not Enough. Walking around in sports top and shorts to show off legs and mid-riff, Richards surely looks great as she snaps at Bond about the crazy situation, later donning a hot designer dress before the big finale on a submarine. Laugh as much as you want at the role but Richards knew she was hired as eye candy and does her best to be a great treat.
14. Miranda Frost
Before her role in Gone Girl, Pike got attention in the final Brosnan Bond film, Die Another Day. An MI-6 agent investigating a sneaky tech genius, Frost at first lives up to her name with icy cool toward Bond but warms up big time stripping down in an ice palace hotel to get him into bed and then in fur blankets. She gets better with a wicked turn that includes her dueling with in a sports bra, Pike showing the same sneaky side for her later famed role. She’s not the biggest Bond Girl but a deadly one to show you can never trust a hot blonde.
13. Wai Lin
Already a star of Hong Kong action, Yeoh was a nice addition for Tomorrow Never Dies. Wai Lin is first seen in a gorgeous evening gown meeting Bond at a party and claiming to be a reporter for Chinese news. When we next see her, she’s in a tight leather catsuit breaking into an office building and escaping via a cable walking down the glass wall. Yeoh shows off her moves, fighting a half dozen guys at once and the final gunfight while still bonding with Bond, a nice humor to things to prove herself as one of the better equals to 007 and a great character in her own right.
Before her fame in various TV series, Seymour got her biggest break starring in the first Moore Bond film, Live and Let Die. Solitaire is the fortuneteller for Mr. Big, a noted drug boss who uses her “gift” to help his business. In robes and unique makeup, Seymour stands out nicely as she and Bond banter and when they together, it’s quite steamy. He has to rescue her with Seymour looking great wet in just a robe yet still a strength in her that would spark the Moore era’s tone of great fun.
Adams has the distinction of being the only two-time Bond Girl, having played a small role in The Man With the Golden Gun. Much bigger and better is the title role in this Moore entry, the leader of a gang of female thieves and smugglers who feels indebted to Bond for allowing her father (a traitorous soldier) to end his life with honor. It’s not till halfway through the movie that we see her face and Adams is gorgeous with a dazzling smile, cool and confident and carrying on well with Bond. She leads her ladies into battle while standing out well on her own and the addition of that hot tattoo shows that while somewhat older than others, her Bond Girl deserves title billing.
10. Elektra King
Marceau’s role in The World is Not Enough is quite intriguing. At first, Elektra is the victim of a kidnapping by a ruthless terrorist, scared but fighting back to win and when Bond meets her, is trying her best to prove she’s okay. Marceau’s French beauty fits the role as Elektra goes about in gorgeous gowns and clothes to stand out aiding Bond and memorable nude in bed. It gets better with a turn that allows a more wicked side to the character that just makes her hotter still and Marceau making it shine. That evolution leads her to one of the more notable Bond Girls going from victim to villain and that sexy smirk through it all making you realize why it’s harder for Bond to trust himself around her.
9. Vesper Lynd
As the first Bond Girl of the Daniel Craig era, Green fits well into Casino Royale. As Vesper, she’s assigned to help Bond in his mission to win an important card game and gives him tips on turning from a rough operative into the smooth and suave gentleman we know. With her perfect face, deep husky eyes and silky voice, Green is alluring as hell, especially in an evening gown while showing enough vulnerability (crying in a shower after an attack) to win you, and Bond, over. She’s highlighted by a swimsuit scene later in the film and a stunning turn that adds new edge to things as Green shows the darker side of this new Bond and her knockout aura listing her among the best Bond Girls.
It’s as if she walked off her own action movie series into a Bond film. We first see her in Die Another Day coming out of the ocean and Berry rocks every inch of her orange bikini. She’s truly Bond’s equal as they get together with her on top in bed and later showing a bad-ass attitude as a cool agent and killer. While she looks great in an evening dress, Jinx shines in the action scenes, including a nice sword fight at the end and the talent Berry has always shown. The movie has flaws but Jinx certainly isn’t one of them and Berry makes her a Bond Girl more than worthy of her own film.
7. Jill Masterson
Her time in Goldfinger is brief but oh so memorable. Jill is Goldfinger’s current lover who helps him cheat at cards. Bond seduces her in order to beat Goldfinger in a game but it costs her dearly. In one of the most iconic moments of the series, Bond finds Jill’s body on a bed, stark naked and covered with gold paint that’s suffocated her. That single shot is forever seared in the memories of any Bond fan, what Eaton is always remembered for and while meant to be macabre, it’s also amazingly sexy and Eaton making it all work wonderfully.
6. Anya Amasova
Probably the best of the Moore Bond films, The Spy Who Loved Me shines thanks to the great chemistry between Moore and Bach. She plays Anya aka “Agent XXX,” a top KGB agent who’s sent on the same case as Bond, to investigate missing subs. They have a good encounter in Egypt where she actually gets the best of Bond before they work together. Whether in an evening gown or just regular clothes, Bach shines as she and Bond connect but it’s complicated by the discovery that Bond killed Anya’s KGB lover on another mission. This adds tension to things which Bach plays with but ends in one of the funniest climaxes (in every sense of the word) of any Bond movie as Bach set the tone for a stronger Bond Girl than the past.
5. Xenia Onatopp
When the series returned with GoldenEye, the producers chose well for the next hot Bond Girl of the franchise. In her breakout role, Janssen portrays Xenia as a sexual beast who actually kills a man during sex by squeezing him to death with her thighs. She seems to get off on murder while trading on her looks in great dresses and a fight with Bond in a steam room that pushes violence and sex together. Her end is funny but fitting and Janssen just explodes off the screen with such zest that it’s no wonder the movie shines so well and makes her the best of the “Bad Bond Girls.”
4. Teresa di Vicenzo
She was the only woman to win Bond’s heart enough for him to put a ring on it. On Her Majesty’s Secret Service was George Lazenby’s only performance in the role and is thus regarded lower than others but is a good entry. That’s thanks to Rigg (well known as Emma Peel) who makes Teresa a fantastic character, tough as nails, humorous and very hot, winning Bond (and the audience) over quickly with her drive and determination. Amazing in a fight, she wins Bond’s heart to the point where they actually get married. It sadly ends in tragedy, one that haunts Bond still and it’s clear that Teresa was always something special. Which makes sense as Rigg made her more than just a pretty face but a true character and thus her end all the sadder.
3. Pussy Galore
With the greatest Bond Girl name ever, Galore fits the greatest Bond film, Goldfinger. As the leader of the evil genius’ flight corps, she’s gorgeous but tough, telling Bond to “turn off the charm, I’m immune.” Yet she can’t help herself as their fight inside a barn soon has sexual overtones and she turns on Goldfinger to aid Bond. With her sassy demeanor and tough attitude, Galore is a true highlight of this classic adventure and you can understand why Bond accepts the challenge of winning her over with style.
2. Melina Havelock
The most down-to-earth of the Roger Moore Bond movies, For Your Eyes Only has Bond hunting a missing super-computer across the world. Melina is the daughter of archeologists who are murdered and, as half-Greek, she vows revenge. It’s she who saves Bond, wielding a crossbow to take out her parent’s killer and dedicates herself to helping Bond out. Bouquet is utterly gorgeous with a flawless face and eyes, the movie captivating whenever she’s on screen, whether in bikini or commando outfit, tough as nails despite her beauty and it’s thanks to her that you definitely have “eyes” for this entry.
1. Honey Ryder
The first is still the best. From the moment she walks out of the ocean in that bikini with a knife at her side in Dr. No, Ryder sets the bar for every Bond girl to follow. She’s tough and independent but still a nice skill set to help Bond, more than just an easy going lady and that fire would inspire quite a few ladies that came after her. While her looks are stunning, Andress also paved the way for the Bond Girl to be more than just a pretty face but held her own with Sean Connery to make the series great from the start.
