Cosplay is a combination of the words costume and play, and involves people wearing costumes of movie, TV, anime, comic book and video game characters. Over the years, the number of people cosplaying has grown so exponentially, that cosplay has become a pop-culture phenomenon in its own right. Some people, thanks to their cosplay skills, have been able to turn this fun pastime into a mini or full-time business; even some companies now use cosplayers in their marketing campaigns.
Many cosplayers are in fact women, and produce some of the best video game based cosplays around. Some female cosplayers though, if not many, have sometimes been criticized for either cosplaying a male character, or oversexualizing a character in general. It is true that female cosplayers do alter some characters’ designs to accentuate their features, but there is absolutely nothing wrong with that because that is how they wish to interpret the character, and cosplay is all about paying homage to a character, and having fun while doing it.
Based on the level of craftsmanship and detail involved, some cosplays are simple endeavors, while others can take weeks to finish – the end result in either case is usually a noteworthy costume; and it is an added bonus when both the cosplayer and the cosplay itself happen to be attractive. Here is a list of the 15 hottest video game cosplays.
