2015 is almost coming to an end, but the careers of upcoming actresses are just getting started. There is a new wave of young, hot and talented entertainers that are sharing the lime light of veteran actors and actresses on the red carpet. Not to mention, there is a long list of children that share the same last names of some of Hollywood’s internationally known stars that are making their way into the scene on the cover of magazines, walking Paris runways and starring on TV shows. We may have seen a few of these actresses with small roles and short appearances on the big screen and forgotten their name, but a few have stood the test of time since the beginning of their careers.
As an avid movie goer, I was hoping for the start of 2015 to be as entertaining as it was a few years back when summer movies were anticipated. Although there were a few movies in 2014, I can count on one hand that made my list of top favorites. I was starting to lose hope for 2015 and what the box office had to offer. I remember the days from the late ‘90s to the mid-2000s where going to the movie was an event. I would invite a group of friends; we would talk about the movie weeks before it came out and had long conversations about it when it ended. Thanks to a list of starlets, my love for movies has rekindled and I can now count on these ladies to bring movie going back to what it was before. Here are the 10 hottest breakout actresses of 2015.
10. Emilia Clarke
The lovely Emilia Clarke travelled all the way from London to be an actress and is showing us how it’s done. Her famous role in the HBO series Game of Thrones graced her with two nominations at the Emmy awards not only in 2013 but also in 2015. As she worked alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger this year in Terminator Genisys, she has proven herself as not just a pretty face, but a starlet her competition needs to look out for.
9. Alicia Vikander
Alicia Vikander started to receive the recognition she deserves this year for her work in the movies titled Ex Machina, The Danish Girl and Testament of Youth. The Swedish dancer and actress had a taste for acting when she first appeared in short films and television shows back home in Sweden. Her wings started to fly her even higher in Hollywood when she worked with Benedict Cumberbatch and Daniel Bruhl in the WikiLeaks movie The Fifth Estate.
8. Yara Shahidi
Although Yara Shaidi may be the youngest starlet on this list, she is definitely doing her thing on the hit TV show Black-ish starring Diana Ross’ daughter Tracee Ellis Ross and Anthony Anderson. She’s smart, sweet, cute and quick on her toes, and isn’t afraid to speak her mind in interviews on millennials and pop culture. In 2009, she was nominated for the Young Artist Award for her work in Eddie Murphy’s movie Imagine That. She also played a role in the Cameron Diaz-produced film Bad Teacher and the family TV show The Fosters.
7. Gal Gadot
Gal Gadot, young fashion model and actress, won us over as Gisele in The Fast and the Furious movie series. Her character showed us that you can hang with the best of the guys on the race track while remaining a lady. Gal also has the brains to match with her previous studies in law after she finished her two-year service in the Israeli Army and became the fresh new face of the Bamboo perfume brand by Gucci.
6. Gina Rodriguez
The gorgeous Latina Jennifer Lopez may be back on the big screen, but she needs to take a step back. Gina Rodriquez has arrived and she is here to stay. Ms. Rodriquez won a Golden Globe Award for her star role in Jane the Virgin. If the title of the show wasn’t enough to gain followers, her good girl image, feisty one liners and fearless character as Jane in the popular sitcom has made us watch and wait for the next chain of events in the next episode. She co-hosted on the 2015 Teen Choice Awards and with her hit TV show airing on Netflix, it looks like we will be seeing more of Gina in 2016 and in years to come.
5. Gugu Mbatha-Raw
Is it just me or are British stars taking Hollywood by storm? Gugu Mbatha-Raw had us interested in her new face in the period drama Belle and the romantic drama Beyond the Lights, starring alongside the sexy, muscle-toned actor Nate Parker. As she continues to make a name for herself in the industry, she managed to land a role in a live-action rendition of Beauty and the Beast. Not bad for an actress that started her career in the UK in 2006. Her British accent and brown ringlets will be also starring in the biopic The Free State of Jones.
4. Zoe Kravitz
She’s sexy and mysterious like her parents Lenny Kravitz and Lisa Bonet. If this girl hasn’t had the good life of having a father as a rock star and a mother who was once a hit actress, now is her time to live it up. Her acting career was just getting started in the movie X-Men: First Class where she played Angel Salvadore, a mutant with dragonfly wings. Zoe was the love interest in Pharrell Williams’ movie Dope and played an edgier role in the film Mad Max: Fury Road with Cherlize Theron as Toast the Knowing. Look out for more roles in 2016 with Zoe.
3. Dakota Johnson
If there is one movie anyone can remember Dakota Johnson had starred in, it was Fifty Shades of Grey. The movie quickly became a success at the box office raking in $570 million and made it on the list of the top 10 highest grossing films this year in eight place. She also worked with Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill in 21 Jump Street. We can’t forget that her parents just so happen to be Don Johnson and Melanie Griffith. Do you think her success is because of good genes or good luck?
2. Cara Delevingne
It was only a matter of time before supermodel-turned-actress Cara Delevingne took her 6 inch heels off of the New York runways and into a movie. You may remember her face from Snapchats with Kendall and Kylie Jenner or hitting the New York night clubs with Rihanna. She may be shorter than the average runway model but she has walked with the best of them in Dolce & Gabbana, Burberry and Jason Wu shows. Cara’s reviews in the movie Paper Towns were not stellar, but she is expected to appear in Suicide Squad and Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets with her sultry friend Rihanna.
1. Lea Seydoux
Lea Seydoux’s latest role in the new James Bond movie Spectre was breathtaking. Her sassy remarks, tough girl personality and natural curves helped her to stand out in the movie as an actress in her own category. Whether it was her Palme d’Or Award at the Cannes Film Festival or her long list of modeling gigs in American Vogue, W Magazine and Vogue Paris, this is one bombshell actress who caught our attention in 2015, but will be around for a very long time.
