It’s a common occurrence these days to see the mug shot of a very familiar face, belonging to an instantly recognizable name, plastered on TMZ at least once every few months. From professional athletes, to famous actors, to reality TV stars and superstar musicians. None of which are immune to the wrath of the law. Well perhaps mildly immune, seeing as many famous names manage to weasel their way out of too harsh a sentence. Celebrities have acquired criminal records for decades now, and these days, the familiar mug shot faces are seemingly getting younger and younger. Whether their sentence lasted only a few hours, a few days, or even a few years. Here is a list of 10 celebrities to do jail time at a young age.
9. Paris Hilton, 26
In 2007, 26 year old Paris Hilton was caught violating probation for a DUI she was charged with the year before. The reality TV star was sentenced to 45 days in in jail, of which she only served 22, released early for good behavior. The heiress has since cleaned up her act and matured, keeping a much a lower profile since the cancellation of her reality TV show, The Simple Life.
In April 2012, actress Amanda Bynes was arrested and jailed for a night. She was charged with a DUI for sideswiping a cop car and attempting to flee the scene. The charges were later brought down to “wet reckless,” which is a drinking related offence, without the serious consequences of DUI. The 26 year old at the time was placed on 3 years probation and was ordered to attend an alcohol education course.
In 2010, Gossip Girl star, Chace Crawford was arrested and jailed for possession of marijuana. The 25 year old at the time was caught by police while in a parked car with a friend. The officer discovered 2 ounces of marijuana in his possession. The actor posted bond the day following his arrest.
Singer Chris Brown was recently released from jail after 234 days behind bars, for violating his 2009 probation order regarding the assault of his ex girlfriend, Rihanna. The 24 year old violated parole after he and his bodyguard got into an altercation with another man. He faced felony assault charges regarding the altercation. The singer was sentenced to an additional 131 days on May 9, 2014 but was released early on good behavior. His probation however, was extended into 2015.
Most famous for his role as Vincent Crab in the Harry Potter franchise, Jamie Waylett was sentenced to two years in jail, at the age of 23, for rioting in London. Waylett was captured on video surveillance participating in the riot and was charged with violent disorder. The riot occurred in August of 2011, and the young man was sentenced in March of 2012. Waylett’s criminal record began at age 20, when he was sentenced to 120 hours of community service for growing cannabis at his moms house.
At age 22, reality TV star Nicole Polizzi, better known as Snooki, was arrested and sent to jail for public disorder, after disturbing the peace while partying in Jersey, in 2010. The partying had gotten out of control while she filmed an episode for Jersey Shore. Snooki was released the following day on a summons.
Lindsay Lohan has spent several small stints in jail for violating the terms of her 2007 probation sentence for DUI and drug possession, at the young age of 21. In 2011, she was sentenced to 120 days in jail for again violating probation, but posted bail after a few hours. As it is seen all over the media, the troubled actress is frequently in and out of rehabilitation centers.
Reality TV star Amber Portwood, from the show, Teen Mom was arrested at the age of 20 for felony domestic battery and child neglect. Portwood spent a night in jail after attacking the father of her child. She was placed on probation in June of 2011, and given a suspended 2 year jail sentence for the assault, according to ontheredcarpet.com. By December of 2011, she was arrested and sent to jail again for possession of a controlled substance. To avoid a 5 year prison sentence, her lawyer struck a plea deal involving a 3 year rehab program instead.
At 19, Justin Bieber was arrested and sent to jail in January 2014, for numerous counts. Some of these accounts included: a DUI, drag racing, driving on an expired license and resisting arrest. The singer was released on a $2500 bond the following day. Around the same time, he was accused of causing $20,000 worth of damages to a neighbor’s home after throwing eggs at their front door. The case is still open, and law enforcement are still determining whether to charge Bieber with a misdemeanor or felony.
