By now everyone has heard of the reality show divorce curse and right now several reality stars are grappling with marital cheating scandals and the process of divorce while filming reality TV.
Though each franchise of Bravo’s Real Housewives series has spawned divorces, none was more heavily impacted than the now defunct ‘The Real Housewives of DC’. After the short-lived series ended, every cast member split from their spouse.
Rolling Stone named reality TV a “relationship buzzkill” when Bruce and Kris Jenner announced their separation after 22 years of marriage. The couple was depicted on later seasons of ‘Keeping Up With The Kardashians’ arguing over errands, personal hobbies and work schedules and cavorting with younger counterparts.
Trina, Towanda and Traci Braxton have featured their marital woes on the hit WEtv reality series, ‘The Braxton Family Values’. Towanda Braxton is separated from her husband and rumored to be dating, and Traci Braxton will appear on WEtv’s ‘Marriage Bootcamp’ with her husband who was rumored to have recently fathered a love child.

Years later, the tabloids are still running stories about the ugly split between Jon and Kate Gosselin, Bobby Brown and the now deceased Whitney Houston and Kevin Federline and Britney Spears. In part, because they shared their relationship in front of reality TV cameras.
Which reality stars are currently living out their marital problems on TV for the entire world to see?
Trecina “Tina” Atkins-Campbell
Tina Campbell, half of the gospel singing duo Mary Mary, is living her husband’s cheating scandal in front of reality TV cameras. The songbird was filming the third season of her popular WEtv series, ‘Mary Mary,’ when she learned her husband of 13 years, musician Teddy Campbell, had countless affairs throughout their marriage.
Viewers watched as the singer navigated the media after revealing her marital woes in Ebony Magazine, underwent a painful separation from her husband and subsequently reconciled with him. The couple has five children together, including Teddy’s daughter from a prior relationship. In a recent interview with CNikky, Tina stated that she remains committed to her husband and wants to make it work.
Mary Mary partner Erica Atkins-Campbell is shown supporting her sister throughout her tumultuous journey. Mary Mary has received four grammy awards and released five albums. Viewers may recognize Teddy from his former stint as the drummer for The Tonight Show Band.
Porsha Williams, went through a public divorce during this season of ‘The Real Housewives of Atlanta’. The former wife of former NFL quarterback Kordell Stewart told Bravo host Andy Cohen that she was “blindsided” after finding out about her husbands divorce filing on Twitter.
The aspiring singer split from her husband shortly after filming her first season of RHOA, which featured the couple in marital counseling. The couple have no children together, but were raising Kordell’s son from a prior relationship. Recently, Porsha made the news again for her arrest after brawling with fellow castmate Kenya Moore on the set of the RHOA reunion.
Khloe Kardashian’s marriage to Lamar Odom crumbled in front of reality cameras on the E! hit series ‘Keeping Up with the Kardashians’. The couple publicly split after Lamar’s alleged drug abuse and infidelity. Lamar was shown struggling with his failing NBA career during the couples spin-off, ‘Khloe & Lamar,’ which ended in 2012. After a long absence from the league, he is now rumored to be signing with the NY Knicks.
During the 8th season of KUWTK, Khloe addressed some of the rumors about her troubled four-year marriage and admitted that her husband was dealing with depression. The former ‘X-Factor’ host was shown being consoled by her mom and sisters. Though the divorce has not been finalized, the couple’s marital home was sold. Sources close to the star claim a reconciliation is impossible because Khloe has moved on, reports Entertainment Wise. She is now rumored to be dating rapper French Montana.
Though former talk show host, Bethenney Frankel, filed for a divorce from her husband, Jason Hoppy last January, she is still addressing it in the media. The Skinnygirl Margarita founder got engaged to Hoppy during her last season on ‘The Real Housewives of New York’ and starred in the spin-off ‘Bethenney Getting Married?’, which was later changed to ‘Bethenney Ever After’. The series was cancelled after 3 seasons and Bethenney announced her split from Hoppy in 2012. She began taping ‘Bethenney’, her FOX talk show, the same year.
The couple has been in the media since separating, publicly fighting over their marital apartment in Tribeca and custody of their 3-year-old daughter, Bryn. According to the Daily Mail, Bethenney refuses to pay her ex a $10 million divorce settlement. Radar Online reports that co-producer Ellen DeGeneres warned Bethenney to stop talking about her divorce on-air, believing it was contributing to poor ratings. Her recently cancelled talk show will air on FOX until May.
Tori Spelling’s husband, actor Dean McDermott, was involved in a recent cheating scandal and the couple decided to air their dirty laundry on the new Lifetime reality docuseries, ‘True Tori’. The show picks up while Dean is in rehab for mental health issues. Tori denies reports that her husband is in rehab for sex addiction, though he does admit to abusing drugs and alcohol.
Dean and Tori notoriously hooked up while they were both married to other people and Tori has openly discussed her fear of infidelity on their former reality series, ‘Tori & Dean: Home Sweet Hollywood’ which aired on Oxygen. The couple has now been married for seven years and have four children.
‘True Tori’ follows the couple as they enter marital counseling and Tori adjusts to caring for their children alone. Reportedly, Tori inked the deal to film the series one week after US Weekly published the salacious story about Dean’s alleged affair. The couple is under scrutiny for allowing reality TV cameras in their home during such a sensitive time and including their minor children.
