There has always been a romanticism surrounding vampires, even before Bram Stoker first published Dracula in 1897. From the ability to seduce young women, to “glamouring” people to do their bidding, to the seductive act of biting on the neck, there seemed to always be a sexual aspect in being a vampire.
While earlier depictions of vampires often had a more ghoulish look about them, the folklore surrounding vampires have evolved and differed throughout the years. From Twilight’s vampires shining like diamonds in the sun to Penny Dreadful’s vampires walking around during the daytime without anyone even thinking twice, it seems like there are no longer any set rules as to what constitutes a vampire.
Although previous versions of vampires have been predominantly male, the public has started to see an increase in female vampires in some of their favorite film and television shows with a vampire theme. Yet, it’s not just that they are female that have helped to make the vampires more appealing, since even Buffy the Vampire Slayer offered some female vampires in its storyline. It is very much dependent upon how the female is portrayed throughout their time onscreen. Some vampires are portrayed with large prosthetic facial disfigurements for their characters to turn into their vampire counterparts, it’s difficult to see beyond those types of makeup and set effects.
Yet some films and television series have done a great job at maintaining a character’s sex appeal, regardless of their fangs and a bit of blood. Check out our list of the 20 hottest vampires on TV and the big screen, and see just how sexy these actresses can look with just a touch of pale and fangy effects.
20. Nikki Reed
Starring as Rosalie Cullen in The Twilight Saga, Nikki Reed’s character started off with a small part in the series and then it expanded as the story continued. Since the film series was based on the book series by Stephenie Meyer, Reed had to adopt the same physical characteristics of the character. Rosalie Cullen was known as, “Statuesque, model-like, wavy hair to the middle of her back.” She is definitely model material in the film series, but she seems to always have a scowl on her face. Since she wasn’t supportive of the relationship between Edward and Bella, she didn’t have the friendliest face onscreen. She did seem to don a smile or two during the Breaking Dawn series, but it’s not her facial expressions that made her look super hot. Whether you prefer the blonde look or her naturally dark features when she’s on the red carpet, Nikki Reed is the perfect example of what a sexy vampire looks like on and off the screen.
19. Rhona Mitra
Rhona Mitra is a British-born actress and model that has a mixed heritage of Irish and Indian. The result is a dark-haired beauty with strong features and a naturally seductive look. Starring in the third installment in the Underworld film series, Mitra plays the role of Viktor’s daughter, Sonja. Underworld: Rise of the Lycans is the prequel to all the other Underworld films, and tells the story of how Viktor started on the path to enslaving the Lycan race to act as guards and laborers for the vampires. There is a Romeo and Juliet style romance between Sonja and the Lycan, Lucian, and it didn’t end happily. Yet, fans got to see Mitra in a number of sexy scenes before she is unanimously sentenced to death for her role in Lucian’s escape, and for taking part in an inter-species romance. From rocking the all-black ensemble wielding a sword to the steamy sex scenes with Lucian, she made a super-sultry vampire that was comparable to the Kate Beckinsale character.
18. Bryce Dallas Howard
Bryce Dallas Howard is the daughter of the famed Ron Howard and has become an accomplished actress in her own right. She had starred in a number of films prior to her appearance in The Twilight Saga, including such hit movies like M. Night Shyamalan’s, The Village. Her appearance in The Twilight Saga: Eclipse had a bit of controversy surrounding the role of Victoria, since she was replacing Rachelle Lefevre. Typically filmmakers don’t usually replace a known character once they are already two movies into a series, but Lefevre was taken out of the films due to her taking a role outside of the film franchise. Howard took on the Victoria role for the entirety of the series, and made good use of her naturally red hair. From the long flowing curls she donned in the film to her off-screen glamorous look, Howard has a unique look that is perfect for a movie star and vampire alike.
17. Mariana Klaveno
Although Mariana Klaveno has starred in a number of films, she is best known for her acting on television. Proving that she definitely knows how to play the hated character in a series, Klaveno played Lorena Ball in True Blood and Peri Westmore in Devious Maids. Devious Maids has her showing off a look with lighter hair, but True Blood had her character donning a much darker look to coincide with her sinister character. Lorena was as sadistic as they come, even for a vampire, and was the main antagonist for much of the series. Fans were introduced to her character through a flashback scene, since she was the vampire that created Bill. Yet she reprised her role and showed up with a number of steamy scenes and sexy ensembles. While it wasn’t too attractive seeing her head spin around during a sex scene with Bill, some of the other scantily-clad scenes were enough to redeem her character for fans of the show.
16. Rutina Wesley
Rutina Wesley grew up in Las Vegas and came from parents that were entrenched in the Vegas life. With parents that were a professional tap dancer and Vegas showgirl, Wesley was born in the showbiz lifestyle. She grew up with some great memories, including meeting Ol’ Blue Eyes himself, Frank Sinatra. So, it didn’t come as any surprise when Wesley went on to pursue a career in the entertainment industry. Portraying the character, Tara Thornton, on the hit HBO series, True Blood, Wesley wasn’t exactly the same character that was featured in The Southern Vampire Mysteries. Writer Charlaine Harris had a much different version of the character, named Tara du Rone. Owning the shop in the strip mall owned by Bill, Tara had a much smaller part in the book series and definitely didn’t have the same dynamic relationship with the other characters. Yet, True Blood made a great twist to the character on the series, and even had some great scenes with Tara donning vampire fangs. While she had numerous steamy scenes throughout the series, the best was definitely her dancing on the pole at Fangtasia.
15. Elizabeth Reaser
Elizabeth Reaser portrayed the calmest vampire in The Twilight Saga, playing the mother figure character, Esme Cullen. While her husband, Carlisle, had an equally calm persona in the series, he looked considerably more like a vampire with his super white skin and oddly blonde hair. Esme never seemed to lose her cool around blood, befriended everyone, and never seemed to lust for revenge. Yet she knew how to kick some serious butt when it came to a fight. She didn’t have much of a storyline in the series, unlike some of her fellow costars, who were able to get a lot more screen time divulging about their past. However, she made quite a lasting impression, since she was definitely a MILF with her timeless beauty. Her look onscreen seemed to change a bit throughout the series, but it’s her offscreen look that had people marveling over how stunning she was with her fair skin and dark features.
14. Aaliyah Dana Haughton
Known simply by her first name, Aaliyah was first introduced to audiences as a young teen that was extremely talented as a vocalist. While she started with a very distinct style, many thought of her as a voice for a particular generation. Fans got to see this once baggy pants-wearing girl grow up before their eyes, and that meant flourishing into a super sexy and ambitious young woman. Branching out into acting, she appeared in Romeo Must Die, and then played the role of Queen Akasha in the film Queen of the Damned. Her untimely death due to a plane crash in the Bahamas didn’t allow her to continue in her film career or even reap the rewards of all her hard work- the budding actress and musician died August 5, 2001. While she may not have been able to witness the thrill of her film release in 2012, fans got to see how talented Aaliyah was on the big screen. Adorned with beautiful jewelry, headgear, and metal crafted pieces to provide minimal coverage, Aaliyah pulled off hot vampire with ease and exuded major sex appeal onscreen.
13. Kristin Bauer van Straten
Kristin Bauer van Straten has had a few acting roles, but she never did reach ultimate commercial fame as some of her other True Blood costars. While she played the character of Maleficent on the ABC series, Once Upon a Time, it’s a bit difficult to play a role where audiences can’t help but compare one to Angelina Jolie in the feature film. Disregarding that she hasn’t been able to reach the same success from her Pamela Swynford De Beaufort character in True Blood, she managed to make a lasting impression throughout the six series she was on the show. Although she definitely had a ruthlessness about her, she also had a softness that really came out with the bond she had with her maker, Eric. As if the black leather ensembles weren’t sexy enough, she had a more polished and mainstream look when she wasn’t working the door at Fangtasia. From pink Chanel suits to vintage Cartier jewelry, she seemed to have a look that suited all tastes and she quickly became a fan favorite.
12. Candice King
Candice King is a singer/songwriter that released her solo debut album in 2006. While it received less than a stellar reception in the U.S., she achieved greater success overseas. She has experience as a backup singer for Miley Cyrus, and appeared in both the Best of Both Worlds Tour and the Hannah Montana & Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert film. Yet, she is best known for her acting endeavors, portraying the role of Caroline Forbes in The Vampire Diaries. She became a prominent female lead in the series, and was “accidentally” made into a vampire in the second season. With numerous romantic relationships throughout the series, fans were privy to a number of steamy scenes involving Candice King. With the blonde hair and girl-next-door look, it was refreshing to see that the show could highlight all different characters. Proving that there were more than just sexy male characters in the vampire world, King was an addition that was much appreciated by viewers.
11. Nina Dobrev
Nina Dobrev may have started her career as a model and actress with small time roles, but she has been able to use her experience on shows like Degrassi: The Next Generation and The Vampire Diaries to help expand her professional career. She’s had some notable roles on the big screen in recent years, starring in The Perks of Being a Wallflower in 2012 and Let’s Be Cops in 2014. She portrayed the protagonist in the CW’s The Vampire Diaries, and was cast in the role, regardless of the fact that she doesn’t resemble the character that was described in the book series. However, she must have proven her acting skills, since Dobrev plays both the Elena and Katherine Pierce character on the show. With her dark features, she was able to pull off two totally different characters to help draw in fans to the storyline. Her time as a vampire may have been brief, but it was sexy enough to help add intrigue to her character and to the show in general.
10. Lucy Liu
Lucy Liu was first introduced to audiences through her role on the television series, Ally McBeal, but she successfully transitioned into film soon after. Starring in a number of hit film series, Liu was in the Kill Bill films as well as the Charlie’s Angels movies. Currently, she’s returned to television to portray the female version of Mr. Watson in the Sherlock Holmes-inspired television series, Elementary. While she seems to have had a great amount of luck in getting choice roles in film and on the small screen, not all of her roles have been met with high acclaim. In 2007, she played a woman that wakes up in a morgue to find herself turned into a vampire in Rise: Blood Hunter. While many criticized the storyline and lack of big name actors besides Liu, no one can deny how hot she looked as a vampire. The film was filled with intense emotion on the part of her character, but it was redeemed by a few sexy scenes with a scantily-clad Lucy.
9. Salma Hayek
Salma Hayek is an actress that doesn’t seem to age like all the others. While many aging starlets turn to plastic surgery or over-the-top ensembles to try and maintain a youthful look, Hayek is in a league of her own in style and glamour. Coming out with a skincare line exclusively for CVS Pharmacy, Hayek reports that Nuance is the secret behind how she maintains her beautiful skin. With a successful skincare line and happily married to billionaire businessman, François-Henri Pinault, Hayek hasn’t taken the acting roles as she used to, but there are plenty of favorites to pick from throughout her professional career. One of her more memorable moments onscreen was in the film From Dusk Till Dawn. While she didn’t have a large part in the film, the stage performance is something that everyone remembers when they mention this vampire-filled film. Although her snake head transformation wasn’t exactly the hottest, it was all the moments leading up to it that prove she belongs on the hottest vampires list.
8. Rachelle Lefevre
Unlike other cast members in The Twilight Saga that strayed dramatically from their natural look, Rachelle Lefevre looked very much like her red-haired Victoria character from the film series. From the wild curls to the haunted look, Lefevre was the perfect fair skinned beauty to fit the role of this deranged and vengeful vampire. Yet her character was recast for the third film in the film series, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse. Lefevre released a statement through E! News in 2009 saying, “I was stunned by Summit’s decision to recast the role of Victoria for Eclipse. I was fully committed to The Twilight Saga, and to the portrayal of Victoria. I turned down several other film opportunities and, in accordance with my contractual rights, accepted only roles that would involve very short shooting schedules.” Her role was given to Bryce Dallas Howard for the rest of the film series, but many think Lefevre made a much hotter vampire.
7. Kristen Stewart
Although Kristen Stewart had acted in a number of films prior to being cast as Bella Swan in The Twilight Saga, she wasn’t exactly thought of as leading lady material when she played alongside Jodie Foster and Jared Leto in Panic Room. So, when she was introduced to mainstream audiences in the first of the Twilight films, her celebrity status exploded, and even more so when she became romantically linked to her fellow star, Robert Pattinson. While she spent the majority of the film series portraying the girl-next-door persona, she evolved into a glamorous looking vampire in Breaking Dawn Part 2. Her offscreen persona was almost as appealing as her vampire one, since she was often seen on the red carpet donning a stunning and trendy look. Although she endured some public snafus when her affair with director, Rupert Sanders, from the Snow White and the Huntsman film was revealed, it still didn’t take away from her sex appeal both on and off the red carpet. Although her relationship with Robert Pattinson came to an end, the public seemed to be even more intrigued knowing that she was on the adventuresome side when it came to her sexuality.
6. Maggie Grace
Maggie Grace started her acting career on television, but she was best known for her role as Shannon on the hit television series, Lost. Proving she could play a character with depth, Shannon may have started off as a bit unlikeable, but her character redeemed herself throughout the series. Just as her fellow cast member Evangeline Lilly branched out into film, so did Maggie Grace. Starring in the Taken film series and a number of other films; she was even a small character in The Twilight Saga. While she didn’t don fangs, she had a haunting beauty that resonated with audiences. From the blonde hair to the red eyes, she made a striking vampire that had fans wishing she had a bigger part in the series. Her character did have a bigger part in The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn two-part series, but she was unfortunately killed off in Part 2.
5. Deborah Ann Woll
Deborah Ann Woll played the role of Jessica Hamby in the HBO series, True Blood. Although True Blood was based on The Southern Vampire Mysteries by Charlaine Harris, the role of Jessica Hamby was not originally in the book series. Yet the character became an instant favorite among fans of the television show. As a home-schooled and extremely sheltered youth, her character had one of the biggest arcs in storyline once she turned into a vampire. Struggling with her inability to live solely off synthetic blood, there were a few ruthless moments involving her character throughout the series. Yet, the biggest arc to her storyline involved her sexual awakening. Numerous episodes involved some steamy sex scenes, lingerie, and there was even a sexy Red Riding Hood costume complete with fangs. Although some criticized the series for straying from the original storyline of the book series, the addition of Deborah Ann Woll was something that definitely enhanced the show.
4. Kate Beckinsale
There was always a bit of speculation behind the validity of Kate Beckinsale’s career, since so many of her professional roles involved working closely with her then-husband, director Len Wiseman. Some question whether or not he had a part in landing her the coveted roles in the Underworld film series and the Total Recall remake, or whether or not she truly was the right actress to suit those parts. Either way, she had movies throughout the Underworld film series and the latest installment, Underworld: Blood Wars, is slated to be released in January 2017. Beckinsale will reprise her role as Selene, the Death Dealer, for this fifth film in the series. Proving Beckinsale can play a wide range of characters, she looks far different than the mild-mannered nurse in Pearl Harbor. Donning black leather and knowing how to wield a gun (or two), Beckinsale is a super-sexy vampire that kicks some serious butt!
3. Ashley Greene
When Ashley Greene was first introduced to audiences, she was portraying Alice Cullen in The Twilight Saga. With a pixie haircut and a small frame, she started off the series back in 2008 when the first film was released. Taking a backseat to some of the other characters in the film, she didn’t have the long flowing blonde hair like Rosalie or the majority of the storyline like Bella. Yet, there was definitely something about this spry little vampire that could see into the future. As the film series continued, so did her fan base. She was given more of a role as the film series progressed, and she was also given some other roles in other films. Fans were so used to seeing Greene with the pixie hairstyle, it was nice for her to be onscreen donning the look she normally had on the red carpet. While The Apparition showed her with long, dark locks in a horror film setting, it didn’t do very well at the box office. Whether you prefer her with the girl-next-door vampire look in The Twilight Saga or the more glamorous look on the red carpet, Greene has a sultry look that’s super sexy.
2. Isabel Lucas
Isabel Lucas is an Australian actress that is known for taking roles that exploit her super sexy appearance. From replacing Megan Fox in Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen to starring alongside some of the hottest men in Hollywood in The Loft, her signature blue eyes and blonde hair has been a winning combination onscreen. In the 2009 film, Daybreakers, Lucas played alongside Ethan Hawke as a vampire. Mixing a bit of science fiction in a futuristic society run by vampires, this was quite a different story than the romantic tales typically offered in vampire storylines. The premise of the film revolved around curing vampirism and saving the human species, and Isabel Lucas was just another casualty in this battle between the two races. Being forced to become a vampire, her time with fangs was fleeting but it was quite memorable to say the least. Offscreen, Lucas is nothing short than drop dead gorgeous, so hopefully fans will get to see more of her in films to come.
1. Evan Rachel Wood
Evan Rachel Wood has been in a number of film and television roles since she first made her film debut when she was just 9-years old. Yet she is best known for her roles on the HBO dramas, True Blood and Mildred Pierce. Playing the role of Sophie-Anne Leclerq, the Queen of Louisiana, she actually had a major part in the storyline involving Bill and Sookie. Although her character came to an untimely demise, fans got to see some pretty sexy scenes at her palatial residence. Making the most out of her queen status, she didn’t let the whole vampire thing stop her from having a glamorous sun room. Sophie-Anne wasn’t exactly the most likeable character on the show, but her sexual appetite made up for her tendency toward evil mannerisms. In the series, she stated, “I haven’t enjoyed sex with men since the Eisenhower administration,” so fans got to see a bunch of girl-on-girl action that had tongues wagging and begging for more.
