20 GoT Characters That Stole Their Looks From Another Movie

Even though Game of Thrones is in between seasons, people still can’t stop talking about it. It is an enthralling series, the likes of which we have never seen in a television drama. Diehard fans are re-watching episodes, and making discoveries they hadn’t noticed the first time around. New viewers are binge-watching like there is no tomorrow. Still, its audience is hungry for more.

So we thought that we’d take this opportunity to bring you a Game of Thrones piece which will feed your hunger for the seven kingdoms. The success of the show is due in large part to its distinctive characters. They are complex and well-acted. They also look unique – or do they? We have found that there are striking similarities between the looks of the characters on GoT and characters from mainstream motion pictures. Daenerys Targaryen bears a resemblance to the mermaid in Splash, and many other cast members look like characters from everything from The Chronicles of Narnia to Shrek. So read on to see which of your favorites have secret twins. In some cases, you’ll find that the similarities are more than skin deep.

20. Roberth Baratheon – Hagrid From Harry Potter

Roberth Baratheon has a wide girth, long hair, and an unruly beard. That makes him a twin for Hagrid from the Harry Potter franchise. Baratheon isn’t a giant like Hagrid, but we can agree he’s close enough. His love of food and drink is unparalleled, and the fur cloaks he wears just serve to accentuate his size. We must say that while Hagrid is imposing to look at, he has more class and practicality than Baratheon. Hagrid is truly a gentle giant, whereas Baratheon has led a life of a warrior (with all its trappings). Still, it’s interesting to see how these two guys pair up.

19. Ygritte – Robin From Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves

Seeing Ygritte wield a bow and arrow instantly reminds us of another heroine: Katniss from The Hunger Games franchise. Both characters protect their independence fiercely, and are not afraid of any person or being. Beyond that, they are even styled the same. Ygritte and Katniss both have bland features that help to reinforce to the audience that these girls mean business. Their characters are capable of communicating their determination through their taunt facial features and stone cold eyes. However, as far as wardrobe goes, Ygritte resembles another cinema character to a T; Kevin Costner‘s Robin Hood.

18. Sansa Stark – Sara From The Huntsman: Winter’s War

Sansa Stark is a beautiful redhead with snow white skin, pale blue eyes and a pretty thin figure. Her character looks a lot like Jessica Chastain’s character, Sara, in The Huntsman: Winter’s War. Sara possessed the same features, even including Stark’s braids and swollen pink lips. The characters also have some interesting parallels, because they are stuck living “fairy tale” lives that are anything but. The difference is that Sara gets to fight her battles with her bare hands, whereas Stark has to find more creative ways to combat. Stark will go down as one of the most notable Hollywood redheads, alongside Katherine Hepburn and Maureen O’Hara.

17. Jaime Lannister – Prince Charming From Shrek

Jaime Lannister is play brilliantly by Nikolaj Coster-Waldau. His real life looks have been compared to Aaron Eckhart, Josh Holloway and former French football player Herve Renard. But on Game of Thrones, Coster-Waldau’s styling makes him look just like Prince Charming from the Shrek movies. Both men have perfectly coiffed sandy-blonde hair. They are also tall and well-built without being bulky. They are dressed to the nines in elitist medieval-inspired garb. Lannister and Prince Charming even play similar characters, in that they use their good looks as a disguise to hide their sinister motives.

16. Khal Drogo – Leonidas from 300

Untitled drawing (23) (1)

via itsmegodece.com/ via pinterest.com

Khal Drogo is a hit with the ladies and the men, because they are both in awe of his physical stature and primal ways. Audiences haven’t seen a buff, manly warrior dripping with this much testosterone since Gerard Butler played Leonidas in 300. This made us realize that Drogo is kind of a rip-off of Leonidas! Both men have muscles upon muscles, dark good looks and piercing eyes. They are excellent leaders, and can command armies even under the toughest circumstances. It’s hard to say who we’d pledge allegiance to, but considering that Butler’s career has been dormant for years, we’re going to pick Drogo and follow him across all seven kingdoms.

15. Benjen Stark – Sheriff of Nottingham From Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves

Untitled drawing (22) (1)

via cosmobiologist.blogspot.com / via kasksu.com

Benjen Stark looks malevolent. With his long black hair, weathered skin and unruly facial hair, he seems like the perfect bad guy – he even dresses just as dark as the night. But looks can be deceiving, and in this case they are. Stark is the First Ranger of the Night’s Watch, a daunting job if ever there was one. However, his looks remind us of a real movie villain: the Sheriff of Nottingham from Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. Played by Alan Rickman, the sheriff also has unkempt jet-black hair, menacing facial hair and a pronounced nose. Game of Thrones may have styled Stark like the sheriff, but they threw us a curveball with the personality of the characters.

14. Joffrey Baratheon – Caligula From Caligula

Untitled drawing (21) (1)

via stcatherinesstandard.ca/ via 1bp.blogspot.com

Joffrey Baratheon is quite a character since he is a cruel, perverse ruler. Personality-wise he isn’t too far from Roman emperor Caligula. Looks-wise, he resembles Malcolm McDowell from the title role in the Caligula film. Both actors have baby blonde hair and light eyes. They have petulant faces with sneering lips and tight cheeks. And then they wear their crowns, and they look like twins. In fact, the actor that plays Baratheon (Jack Gleeson) bears a striking resemblance to a bust of the real Caligula. What are the odds? Fans have no doubt that Baratheon was inspired either by the real life Caligula, or by McDowell’s portrayal of him.

13. Melisandre – Red Riding Hood From Once Upon a Time

Untitled drawing (20) (1)

Melisandre is known as the Red Woman. She is a priestess, and often travels in a red hood. This means we think of the little red riding hood whenever we see her. Meghan Ory plays Red Riding Hood on the TV series Once Upon a Time, and she looks a lot like Melisandre – and not just due to the hood! Both women are fearless, and are statuesque beauties. Melisandre and Red have dark hair that contrasts well with their pale skin. Their eyes are the window into their souls, as they are richly-colored and deep. The women even dress alike, wearing long gowns in rich, red colors.

12. Brienne of Tarth – The White Witch From Narnia

Untitled drawing (19) (1)

Brienne of Tarth is part of the nobility, but this lady would prefer to be a knight. She is large and in charge, and knows how to wield a sword. Which reminds us of another such character: The White Witch from the Narnia franchise. Tilda Swinton plays the role of the witch, and she is physically similar to Brienne. The women share pale skin with deep set brown eyes, and thin lips which curl in anger. Their light blonde hair isn’t at all sexy – it’s feral. And their facial expressions are exactly the same: they are determined, single-minded and ready to fight.

11. Olenna Tyrell – The Duchess of York From The Hollow Crown

Untitled drawing (17) (1)

via twitter.com / via pinterest.com

Olenna Tyrell is the matriarch of her family, The House of Tyrell. She might look like a kindly old grandmother, but she is forthright in her opinions and often criticizes the men in her family. When we look at her, we are reminded of another famous Brit: Judi Dench. Dench looks just like Tyrell in The Hollow Crown. Both women have stately faces with porcelain skin and expression lines on their foreheads and around their mouths. They look nearly identical with their blue headdresses which accentuate their knowing eyes. These women really do look alike off-screen, too – especially when they were young and hot-to-trot.

10. Margaery Tyrell – Valerie From Red Riding Hood

Untitled drawing (16) (1)

via 65media.tumbler.com / via polyvore.com

Margaery Tyrell (Natalie Dormer) from Game of Thrones and Valerie (aka Red Riding Hood) are beautiful and clever girls. When we look at one, we think of the other. Tyrell reminds viewers of Valerie because of her distinctive round cheeks, which protrude out in a pleasant way. She also has Valerie’s wide eyes, which are pale and compliment her light skin. Each girl also has a pretty mouth that is at once happy and mischievous. Their long hair is their crowning glory. Of course they are dressed the same, in medieval-style dresses with beautiful detailing. Tyrell and Valerie also both have an element of fear in their lives – for Valerie it is the big, bad werewolf and for Tyrell it is Joffrey – a wolf in boy’s clothing.

9. Petyr Baelish – Ned Alleyn From Shakespeare in Love

Untitled drawing (15) (1)

We always knew Petyr Baelish reminded us of someone, we just had to go way back to the 90s to figure out who that person was. It is none other than Ben Affleck playing Ned Alleyn in Shakespeare in Love. Both men have the same aristocratic features: meticulously combed hair, fine facial hair grooming and debonair clothing. Even the way they command the camera is similar. Baelish is ambitious to no end, while Alleyn has a huge ego; neither character is afraid to show his true colors.

8. Jon Snow – Paris From Troy

Untitled drawing (14) (1)

Game of Thrones has a lot of unique looking characters, like Lord Varys and Gregor Clegane. Jon Snow just doesn’t happen to be one of them. Don’t get us wrong – we love his character, and believe Kit Harington is a phenomenal actor. It’s just that Snow looks a heck of a lot like Orlando Bloom as Paris, in the movie Troy. Their dark, wavy hair is indistinguishable, and they both have gleaming, black-olive colored eyes. When you put them in armor, it’s almost impossible to tell them apart. Even in real life, the two men look like they’re related.

7. Tyrion Lannister – Coll From Snow White and the Huntsman

Untitled drawing (13) (1)

via designtrend.com / via chud.com

Tyrion Lannister is a dichotomous character. On the one hand he enjoys drinking and ladies of the night; on the other, he is intelligent and insightful. He is a multi-dimensional character which makes him a pleasure to watch. The way he is styled, though, reminds us of the “dwarves” from Snow White and the Huntsman (especially Coll). These miscreants are malicious, and are rather one-dimensional. Still, with their unkempt hair, medieval garb and weaponry, we can’t help but think of Lannister. While Lannister is in fact a little person, many of the “dwarves” in the Snow White movie were not. They were “full size” actors who were shrunk down using digital manipulation, trick cinematography and stand-ins, which offended many little people.

6. Cersei Lannister – Marguerite de Ghent From Ever After

Untitled drawing (11) (1)

via comicvine.com / via pinterest.com

Cersei Lannister is a queen whose beauty inspires songs for the ages. Her true nature, though, inspires hate and loathing for anyone that isn’t a Lannister. She’s kind of like a wicked stepsister. The one we have in mind is Marguerite de Ghent from the Drew Barrymore hit film Ever After. The two women have cascading blonde hair, chiseled good looks, and eyes that are always on the prowl. They are both tall and wear exquisite gowns with priceless jewels. They are the women we love to hate. Brava!

5. Ramsay Bolton – Samwise Gamgee From Lord of the Rings

via hellogiggles.com

via hellogiggles.com

Ramsay Bolton has a lust for blood in Game of Thrones. He’s one guy we do not want to cross. But if we focus merely on his physical appearance in the series, he looks a lot like Samwise Gamgee from Lord of the Rings. The two actors have similar builds, since they are both on the short side and are rather compact. They both sport tousled hair and dress in muted colors. They even look similar in the face. Bolton and Gamgee have soft cheeks and a soft chin, with fleshy lips and a prominent forehead. Their eyes do give them away, though. Bolton looks vicious while Gamgee looks guileless.

4. Missandei – Ika From The Quest for Fire

Untitled drawing (12) (1)

via pinterest.com/ via skinemaxxx.com

Missandei is a former slave on Game of Thrones. She is a trusted advisor to Daenerys, and is especially helpful to all given her linguistic skills. Like many of the women on GoT, she is attractive and appears in the buff. Frankly, she reminds us of another dark-skinned lady who had to fight her way through life and was often filmed sans clothing: Ika, from The Quest for Fire. Both actresses have full, curly hair, glowing skin, and mysterious eyes. Their bodies also have a womanly shape that both men and women admire.

3. Viserys Targaryen – Lucius Malfoy From Harry Potter

Untitled drawing (10) (1)

via rediff.com / via moviefone.com

Viserys Targaryen looks very, very similar to Lucius Malfoy from the Harry Potter franchise. Both men have shoulder length hair that is bleached blonde, and both stand with an air of arrogance. They dress in black from head to toe, which gives them a decidedly wicked demeanor. They don’t have to say anything to communicate their evil motives, as they have perfected haughty sneers and glaring eyes. Blondeness is usually equated with beauty and morality – but not for either of these two. Their pursuit of power by all means necessity is Machiavellian and makes them equally unattractive.

2. Eddard Stark – Triple H

via 411mania.com

via 411mania.com

OK, we know this piece is all about Game of Thrones characters who look like film characters, but we couldn’t resist including this comparison of Eddard Stark to wrestler Triple H. The WWE is basically one big show anyway, so we hope you let this one slide. Stark and Triple H look a lot like each other. They’re both big, burly guys with aquiline noses and long, greasy hair. They have matching facial hair, and eyes that can stare down any opponent. And each is untouchable during combat in their own circles. What sets Stark apart, though, is that his storyline is multi-faceted. He’s a lover and a fighter, and is often a conflicted man. Think of him as a more refined, more complex version of Triple H.

1. Daenerys Targaryen – Madison from Splash

Untitled drawing (9) (1)

via goliath.com / via documentingreality.com

Daenerys Targaryen is a unique character, the likes of which we haven’t seen on a TV drama. She is a strong girl, whose mentality shows great development as she overcomes many obstacles. Targaryen is also a beautiful blonde goddess, and that seems to capture the audience’s attention most of all. However, her looks are hardly one of a kind. She is rather reminiscent of Daryl Hannah’s character, Madison, in the movie Splash. Both women have wavy blonde hair that is just long enough to graze their breasts. They also have pink pouty lips and wide, sparkling eyes. Their figures are works of art – and they both show off their best assets (in the buff) on-screen.
