20 Child Stars All Grown Up: Where Are They Now?

via chanelwestcoast.guff

Celebrities come in all shapes and sizes, from all walks of life, from all sorts of family backgrounds, and from a variety of countries around the world. Most importantly, celebrities come in a variety of ages; some stars start their careers as young adults or in their 20s. A few odd ones, Alan Rickman for example, start their careers late in life, in their 50s or 60s. But many of our favorite (and some of the most messed up) stars started out as kids in Hollywood. Elijah Wood, Anna Paquin,Christina Ricci, Britney Spears, Celine Dion, Miley Cyrus, Justin Timberlake – these big names started as child stars and kept their fame all the way through to adulthood. For better or for worse, everyone loves a good child star story.

Most child stars are under an immense amount of pressure in Hollywood. The lifestyle of the rich and famous sometimes can lead down a terrible path, involving crime, drugs, eating disorders, and scandals. Some make it out unscathed by their fame, but that is relatively rare. Sometimes, a child star will fall out of the limelight and disappear, leaving the fame and fortune behind, never to be heard from again.

So where do they disappear to? Here is a list of some child stars that have fallen off the map or are just no longer acting. What are they up to? Take a look at these 20 child stars and find out what has befallen them since their time in the spotlight.

Early 1990s child star Sam Anders was the creepy friend who climbed into Clarissa’s window in Clarissa Explains It All. He was played by the dorky yet adorable Sean O’Neal. After Clarissa’s three-year run in the early 1990s, O’Neal was left without a job, and he liked it that way. He was approached by a boy band to become part of the singing group, but he declined. The young star was tired of the limelight and wanted out. However, after lending his voice to a couple of characters in English versions of two different anime, O’Neal started trying to fight his way back into the public’s eye. O’Neal has made a couple of very small roles since 2000, but has yet to recreate his childhood success.

19. Josh Saviano

Child star Josh Saviano played the nerdy, poorly dressed Paul Pfeiffer on the Wonder Years. After the show called in quits in 1993, so did Saviano. He instead focused on school, studying hard at Yale and then law school until he passed the bar. He’s now Senior Counsel for a law firm in New York. Although he’s mostly given up on acting, he has appeared in three or four episodes of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit as Counselor Don Taft in 2014 and 2015. Guess you can take the child actor out of Hollywood, but you can’t take Hollywood entirely out of the child actor.

18. Erik Per Sullivan

Adorable yet annoying Dewey from Malcolm in the Middle was played by Erik Per Sullivan, who was already famous for his voice acting in Finding Nemo, and his roles in a couple of big movies, including Joe Dirt. He had a bigger career by the time he was nine than most of us could ever dream of having. The successful child actor has not done anything in Hollywood since 2010; he seems to have moved on from acting, studying at the University of Southern California instead. He’s also great at Taekwondo, plays the piano and the sax, and is fluent in Swedish. Smart cookie!

17. Lark Voorhies

After her run as Lisa Turtle on Saved by the Bell, Lark Voorhies did the circuit of weekday, housewife soap operas, including Days of Our Lives and The Bold and the Beautiful. Although she’s been a few shorts and small parts, Lark’s acting dries up around 2001, when she decided to focus on her production company. In 2012, she had a disastrous makeover, and people started attributing her weird choice in makeup colors to bipolar disorder. Her mother later confirmed the star is bipolar but Lark vehemently denies that she has any mental illness. Now, in 2016, Lark is still making headlines for her strange behavior. She is currently divorcing her second husband after a very short marriage and spends time on Instagram posting letters to Obama asking him to arrest John Travolta for sexual assault. The ex-Saved by the Bell star recently admitted has been battling Lupus, and spends most of her time working on her self-published novels.

16. Jonathan Lipnicki

Adorable child actor Jonathan Lipnicki made it big as his roles in Jerry Maguire, Stuart Little, and Like Mike. Afterwards, the little guy disappeared from Hollywood. It’s rumored he was harassed by a paparazzi that was demanding pictures while Lipnicki was supposed to be studying; child stars are still required to study, and Jonathan was no exception. He let the photographer take a picture, then was threatened when he walked away to go spend time in his on site trailer where his tutor waited. For the most part, Lipnicki stayed away from acting until 2012, when he decided to dip his toe back in the pool with End of Salvation. Now 25, the actor has about seven films coming up in 2016 and 2017 already.

15. Ariana Richards

Jurassic Park’s Arianna Richards has pretty much disappeared from acting after running from all of the dinosaurs in the 1990s original classic. She’s showed up in a couple of TV movies and a music video or two, but for the most part, Richards has focused on her art and education. She got her painting career started at the same time as her acting career took off; she painted several water colors on the set of Jurassic Park and knew that art, and not acting, would be her life’s calling. She and her dreamy husband welcomed a child recently; the little family spends their time flitting between her art studios in the US, South America, and Western Europe. Sounds like a life that was well worth getting almost eat by a T-Rex for!

14. Charlie Korsmo

Remember the little boy from Hook? He was also the young son in What About Bob? That child actor is Charlie Korsmo, and he hasn’t appeared in a film for many years. His last role was as William in Can’t Hardly Wait. The young actor gave up the life in 1998 and has pursued a career in law instead, citing that acting was too much pressure. The now lawyer studied physics at MIT. Afterward he got a law degree from Yale Law and is now teaching law to the next generation at Case Western Reserve. He is currently serving a term as Deputy Domestic Policy Analyst for the House Republican Policy Committee of the U.S. House of Representatives.

Cute little Phoebe from Beakman’s World is all grown up! The once child actor is now in her 40s and looks fabulous. She is still acting and has had a role on MTV’s Faking It as the school principal. She’s been seen in Sister, Sister, the hugely popular General Hospital as Winifred Leeds, and even showed up in an episode of Jane the Virgin. The actress has about 10,000 Twitter followers to whom she tweets about diet sodas, how proud she is to be 4 foot 11 inches tall, and memories of other TV shows she has been on. Even 20 years later, she’s still adorable!

12. David Faustino

Four words: Married… With Children spinoff! David Faustino will be rehashing his Married role that ended in 1997, bring it back to the small screen … hopefully. The show seems to have hit a few legal snags, but the actors are all there. Sony hopes to have give the green light to the project ASAP and get back to development. Faustino has been busy in between Married roles, however, voice acting on shows like The Legend of Korraand even trying out a rap career in the 1990s. Lil’ Gweed is his rapper’s name. He welcomed a child in December 2015 with his fiancee.

11. Austin St. John

The original Red Ranger and early 1990s heartthrob Austin St. John was already an experienced martial artist when he donned his red spandex. The original show aired for about two years before some contract woes stopped production. St. John returned to rehash his role as a ranger a Power Rangers sequel in 1996, a movie in 1997, and again in 2002. He hung up his red helmet and suit in 2002, and had since become an EMT and firefighter. The child star returned to acting in 2016; he has two movies due out soon. He’s starring in A Gift of the Heart (2017) a feel-good drama about overcoming cultural differences and Gideon’s Frontier (2016),a movie based on the seventh Book of the Bible, the Book of Judges.

10. Nate Richert

Sabrina the Teenage Witch heartthrob and love interest Harvey was played by Nate Richert. After the show closed up in 2003, Nate left Hollywood as fast as he could. Although he has appeared in a few short films, the former child star just isn’t interested in acting. Instead, Nate has been working on a singing career with the band C.Duck and Nate. He’s a whiz with a handful of instruments and is even a trained dancer. He still occasionally makes appearances for fans of Sabrina, so the soon-to-be 38-year-old must still have an emotional connection to the show. Wouldn’t a reunion show be so sweet?

9. Heather Langenkamp

The Nightmare on Elm Street star is actually still acting! Heather Langenkamp, probably best known for her roles in Nightmare, Growing Pains, and Just the Ten of Us, has recently showed up in two episodes of American Horror Story and the TV series the Bay. The actress and avid photographer recently returned to horror with the 2016 scary movie Home, a story of a girl who tries to purge the evil from her house and ends up bringing in a demon instead. Heather and her husband, David LeRoy Anderson, have been married since 1990 and work together in the effect studio they own together in LA.

8. Lori Beth Denberg

Lori Beth Denberg was the hero of every single overweight girl in the world who wanted to be an actress or comedian. She was loud, plus sized and hilarious. Denberg appeared on Nickelodeon’s All That as herself, The Steve Harvey Show, and the Good Burger movie (of course). Lori had been mostly out of the spotlight until, in March 2016, an All That reunion show was announced, making every 90s kid tear up from nostalgia. The actress has mostly stayed away from Hollywood, trying to just live the rest of her life in peace. Now in her 40s, Denberg’s the chillest of all of the former child actors; she said “I’ve been living life. Now I’m enjoying my old age,” in a recent interview.

6. Madeline Zima

The youngest daughter of the Sheffield family on the hit show The Nanny was Grace, played by Madeline Zima. The former child star has made quite the career for herself, getting great roles on shows like Californication and Heroes. Zima also had a part in the very short-lived TV series Beta, where she played Jordan Alexis. She has an untitled project coming up in 2016. In 2015, she had a one-off role in the hit drama Grimm. Madeline also writes screenplays. Her sisters, Vanessa and Yvonne, are also both actress and write screenplays as well. Madeline spends her non-acting time riding horses, writing songs, and hanging out with her sisters.

5. Jaleel White

Steve Urkel was the guy everyone loved to laugh at. So dorky, with his pants hiked up and his hilarious spine-contorting way of walking around made him look like a walking lunch money dispenser for bullies. Family Matters aired for nearly a decade, bringing Jaleel White into the limelight. After the show was cancelled, White continued to act. He was the voice of Sonic in Sonic Underground and acted in the hilariously bad Mega Shark vs. Crocosaurus. White has recently been voice acting again for a few cartoons and is set to have a small part in the upcoming 2016 movie about a preacher’s son. The star has been accused of abusing his ex-girlfriend and has been known to pick fights with co-stars (especially on his stint on Dancing with the Stars). Sounds like this former child star has an attitude problem!

4. Jenny Lewis

Life With Lucy was a short lived sequel to the incredibly successful I Love Lucy. Jenny Lewis played Lucille Ball’s 10-year-old granddaughter in the show. Jenny Lewis continued to act for many years until 2001. She acted in Pleasantville, the TV series Brooklyn Bridge, and even a single episode of Baywatch. Although mostly retired from acting, Jenny has appeared in a few odd roles, including A Very Murray Christmas and American Dad. She has mostly focused on her singing career instead, singing for the L.A. band Rilo Kiley. The band has appeared in several soundtracks or as a band for shows and movies, including Grey’s Anatomy, 90210 (the 2009 version), and One Tree Hill.

3. Keshia Knight Pulliam

Remember Keshia Knight Pulliam from Sesame Street? The adorable little star started acting very young, and appears as Ruby on the Cosby Show. She won an Emmy nomination at age six; that’s got to be a record! The cute starlet took a short break from Hollywood to grab a degree from Spelman and then jumped right back into the mix, appearing in House of Payne and even a run on the Apprentice. Keshia was recently in the news for defending Bill Cosby in the storm of sexual assault allegations. She responded to questions about her former co-star by saying that “you’re innocent till proven guilty.” She also reminded the world that she “worked with [Cosby] for a really long time. I love him dearly still and that isn’t the man that I know.”

2. Macaulay Culkin

Via ppcorn.com

Via ppcorn.com

It’s hard to hear Macaulay Culkin’s name without thinking of that iconic scene where he slaps on the aftershave in the mirror and screams into an empty house. But the child star has done so much since his roles in Home Alone, Richie Rich, and My Girl. He’s popped up on occasion in movies and TV, like the Jim Gaffigan Show where he plays a fictionalized version of himself and a strange looking 2016 movie called Aladdin, which is described on IMBD as “hyper-sensory, poetic, and humorously modern take on the Arabian Nights Classic tale.” After a long romance with Mila Kunis, the actor kept showing up in public looking like he hadn’t eaten in weeks. Though everyone close to him swears he does not have a drug or eating disorder problem, Culkin has been looking a little scary thin. The former child star usually keeps out of the spotlight as much as possible, but he does still tour with his band, the Pizza Underground, who plays nothing but Velvet Underground songs reworded to be about pizza.

1. The Olsen Twins

Mary-Kate Olsen, Ashley Olsen

If you watched Fuller House, you might have noticed a certain little girl missing. The Olsen twins turned down the chance to reprise their role as Michelle on the sequel to Full House. The twins have had a tough time since they became megastars as children. They have battled paparazzi, eating disorders, and have been sued by Shahista Lalani for allegedly overworking interns without pay or academic credits. The twins run their own fashion line, and have stayed as far away from acting as possible. It’s no surprise, given how every single aspect of their lives have been plastered all over the papers. The thought of acting, even a simple role like Michelle Tanner, was nearly painful. Neither has acted since they were 17, and they have a lot of bad memories associated with that kind of limelight. The girls will be turning 30 soon, and are estimated to be worth about $300 million and have been millionaires since age 10. Mate-Kate is now married to a French banker, but Ashley remains seemingly happily unmarried.
