A list so nice, we’re doing it twice. Developing crushes on the people we see on-screen seems to be a rite of passage for much of the modern world. It makes perfect sense when you consider the fact that in many, many cases Hollywood’s casting departments puts such a high premium on the looks of the young actors that they place in their projects. It’s only natural that when you routinely watch an attractive person who has had a team of professionals exhaustively work to make sure that all their blemishes disappear that they’d make an impact.
As with our first list, even though these actresses may no longer be of foremost importance in our mind, the crushes we had as young’uns are never really forgotten. With this list, we will be looking at twenty women who depending on your age and preference were likely to be unforgettable. Celebrities from before the 1980s were disqualified, as we had to cut the list off somewhere. Additionally, more recent celebrities like Kaley Cuoco weren’t included as their current activities are obvious to most.
17. Mandy Moore
A pop singer with a sticky-sweet but seemingly entirely sincere image, Mandy released six major albums over her career, three of which were certified either gold or platinum in America. Arguably made more famous by her acting career, Mandy starred in movies like A Walk to Remember, The Princess Diaries, and the criminally underrated Saved, she also memorably cameoed on Scrubs. Currently set to reprise her role of providing the voice to Disney’s Rapunzel in a regular series that is spun off from the popular film Tangled, she is also a series regular on the show Sheriff Callie’s Wild West.
16. Kristin Kreuk
A beautiful brunette who became a star after she played Lana Lang, a lead in the show Smallville, which ran for an incredible ten seasons , she was enchanting enough that she stole Superman’s heart. Never able to be a part of another project that was able to break through that much, her most notable roles since include the movies EuroTrip, Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li and Space Milkshake. Playing the lead role in CW’s Beauty & the Beast since 2012, she unsurprisingly took on the titular beauty role in the series that is set to conclude after the upcoming fourth season.
15. China Chow
The niece of former Bond girl Tsai Chin, China was gifted with incredible looks that made her a successful model for companies like Shiseido cosmetics, Tommy Hilfiger, and Calvin Klein. Named one of Harper Bazaar’s it girls of 1996 and ranked twice in Maxim magazine’s list of the hot 100 women in 2000 and 2001, she gained her fair share of fans. Transitioning to roles in movies like The Big Hit, Spun, and Head Over Heels, China also lent her voice to the immensely popular Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. Last seen acting onscreen in the first season of the series Burn Notice, she later served as the host and judge of the short-lived show Work of Art: The Next Great Artist .
14. Julia Stiles
After winning an MTV Movie Award for Best Breakthrough Performance for the movie 10 Things I Hate About You, Julia absolutely lived up to the award’s title. Moving on to star in two other modern retellings of Shakespeare stories, Hamlet, and O, she also made her name in films like Save the Last Dance, Mona Lisa Smile and A Guy Thing. After suffering a valley in the levels of projects she received, Julia’s season-long arc on Dexter and supporting role in the film Silver Linings Playbook served to remind some of her immense skills. Set to return to the Bourne series of films that she has frequented before soon, we hope the role serves as a harbinger of greater things to come.
13. Jessica Biel
Playing the oldest sister on 7th Heaven, a drama about a religious family, it didn’t take long for it to become clear that Jessica wanted to break free after she took part in a topless shoot for Gear Magazine. Made a much larger star by her major roles in movies like The Rules of Attraction, Blade: Trinity, as well as very sexy roles in both I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry and Powder Blue. Currently married to multimedia superstar Justin Timberlake, she continues to be cast a lot, including three films set to be released in 2016.
12. Jennifer Garner
Jennifer’s star-making role came when she played Sydney Bristow, the lead role in the spy-action thriller Alias. A role that required her to be very multi-faceted, Hollywood head honchos must have been paying attention. Moving to feature film roles in 13 Going on 30, The Invention of Lying, and Ghosts of Girlfriends Past, she recently had an important role in the acclaimed film Dallas Buyers Club. After announcing that she and her husband, Ben Affleck, are getting divorced, she has jumped back into acting with both feet. A part of four major releases in 2016, we’ll get to see her work with actors Bryan Cranston, Kevin Spacey, Christopher Walken, and several other actors.
11. Nikki Cox
An actress best known for her role in the Married With Children knock off comedy Unhappily Ever After, Nikki like her counterpart Christina Applegate, served to add both comedy and sex appeal to the show. Also appearing in other shows like Las Vegas, Nikki, a show she was the star of and The Norm Show, a cult classic where she appeared alongside Norm Macdonald, Nikki’s curves made her highly sought after. Married to fellow comedy actor, Jay Mohr in 2006, the duo have a son who was born in 2011. Last seen onscreen in the TV movie A Christmas Wedding Tail, Nikki unfortunately has had some bad plastic surgery to her face which has made her look very different.
10. Alicia Keys
Arguably one of the most respected singers of the last few decades, Alicia, a gorgeous songstress seemed to become an overnight success in 2002. A winner of five AMA Awards, nine Billboard awards, fifteen Grammys, four MTV Video Music Awards and much, much, much more, it seems like her house must be overflowing with gold. An actress with a resume that dates all the way back to 1985, she has acted in shows like The Cosby Show, Saturday Night Live, and movies like Smokin’ Aces. Alicia’s most recent role was when she acted as a part of the second season of the show Empire. A veteran of competition shows like The X Factor and America’s Next Top Model, she was recently announced to be joining The Voice as a judge for its upcoming eleventh season.
9. Julianne Hough
When the show Dancing with the Stars debuted on ABC TV, the idea was to cast a group of unknown professional dancers with people who were famous at one point. We’re guessing nobody considered the possibility to that for at least a while one of the pros would arguably be the most sought after person on the show. After winning the competition on the pro side twice, Julianne began to star in movies like Footloose, Rock of Ages and Safe Haven. Going back to her roots in 2014, she returned to the show that made her a star as a permanent judge and two years later, she danced on the world’s TVs once again by starring in Grease: Live.
8. Jennifer Connelly
An actress that seems to be woven into the fabric of films since she was in Labyrinth, Jennifer is a combination of old school beauty and an ability to get down and dirty like the lady of today. An actress who has appeared nude in an incredible nine movies, some of those scenes are considered by many to be amongst the best-naked scenes in film history and we totally agree. An incredibly talented actress who won an Academy Award, Golden Globe and BAFTA for A Beautiful Mind, Jennifer’s greatest asset is her unquestioned acting ability. After appearing in four films in 2014, including Winter’s Tale and Noah, her upcoming film, American Pastoral will mark her first return to the screen since.
7. Stacey Dash
One thing is abundantly clear, everyone who had a hand in choosing her to take a supporting role in the movie Clueless were immensely wise. The best-known actor from the film that made the leap to television when the film was spun off into a show, alongside Donald Faison who played her onscreen boyfriend, Stacey made the show’s success possible. An actress who has made guest appearances on shows like CSI, American Dad, and The Exes, she is now a semi-regular co-host on the Fox News Channel talk show Outnumbered.
6. Winona Ryder
The list of beloved films that featured this exquisite actress in an important role is incredibly lengthy. Beetlejuice, Heathers, Edward Scissorhands, Bram Stoker’s Dracula, and Reality Bites are just a drop in the bucket of this talented performer’s admired filmography. A former Hollywood it girl of the highest order, Winona seemed like she got the first crack at every major role for years on end. After she became a tabloid fixture in 2002 because of being charged with shoplifting, she kept her head held high and refocused on her craft. Cast in the lead role of the Netflix original series Stranger Things that will premiere in July of 2016, it will hopefully, yet again, reignite the world’s love for Winona.
Born Mýa Marie Harrison, this singer-songwriter got a record deal in her early twenties which led to instant popularity when her first album, released the same year she was signed, was certified platinum. Her second album featured arguably her best-remembered solo song, Case of the Ex and not long after that she won a Grammy for her collaboration on the song Lady Marmalade. Like many other singers of the modern era, Mya also received roles in films like Chicago, In Too Deep, Shall We Dance, and Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights. After releasing her eighth studio album in February of 2016, Smoove Jones, she saw the record chart on the US R&B/Hip-Hop and Independent Albums lists.
4. Ashley Greene
Arguably the hottest actress to have a part in all of the much maligned and passionately loved Twilight franchise of films, Ashley’s character served as the heart of the film for many people. When she wasn’t working on that franchise of melodramatic shiny vampire movies, she racked up roles in quite a few smaller films. She also memorably appeared naked other than body paint in ads for the drink brand SoBe and suffered a nude photo leak. Set to appear in four films in 2016, including one where she was directed by James Franco and another where she worked for Kevin Smith, this could be a landmark year in her career.
3. Jennie Garth
Playing the character Kelly Taylor for the entirety of Beverly Hills 90210’s ten-year run, she served as a major part in the show’s spin-off Melrose Place, when her character guested several times. A veteran of several other series in the years since she first left California onscreen, she starred in the show What I Like About You during its four-year run. Perhaps the best compliment to her acting skills and professionalism she received, in our eyes, is that she appeared in 90210, a spin-off, more than any other original cast member. The star of the short-lived Jennie Garth Project in 2014, she has only made appearances as herself in the year since, but who knows when she may dive back into the acting game.
2. Anna Kournikova
Although it is a fact that Anna owes a great deal of her fame to her tennis career, it is equally obvious that if she didn’t have supermodel good looks, she wouldn’t have been a fraction as well known. Never able to win a major singles title, she still managed to be ranked eighth in the world in the year 2000 and received more attention in many cases than the actual winners. Linked with the pop star Enrique Iglesias since 2001, she appeared in his music video for the song Escape. A mainstay of lists of the hottest women in the world put out by magazines like Maxim and FHM, she was also chosen to appear in the 2004 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue. Last seen playing tennis on a competitive level in 2010, she principally lives a private life now that still provides tabloids with fodder occasionally.
1. Amy Jo Johnson
It seems utterly obvious to us that Amy, through her role as the pink Power Ranger, Kimberly, was the first crush of millions of young people and we can definitely see why. Cute and attractive in the tradition of people like the Saved by the Bell girls, but for a new generation, she appeared on Mighty Morphin Power Rangers for the first three seasons. Moving on to lead role in the drama series, Felicity, Amy proved she had staying power in that and the police drama Flashpoint. Last seen onscreen in 2015 and 2014, where she appeared on the show Covert Affairs and wrote, directed and starred in the film, The Space Between, she is in the yet to be released film In Between Days.
