Comedy and nudity have gone hand in hand for quite a while in movies. It makes sense as there’s something about the human body that’s just inherently funny and thus easy to laugh at. Comedy has used that quite a lot over the years for several movies from the obvious nudity-fest of films like Porky’s and other ‘80’s flicks to a bit more nuanced ones. It’s been cut down a bit in recent years but can still pop in, everything from full-on nudity to more hidden but still notable thanks to the stars and the situation.
Trying to pick the best is a bit much but here are 15 examples of nude scenes in comedies that still linger in the mind. Most involve women but a couple of guys thrown in as well as it’s the memorable aspect to make it stand out and marvel at the fun of a nude body when used right in comedy and all these actors lived up to that.
15. Julianne Moore – The Big Lebowski
Julianne Moore is no stranger to doffing it all from her memorable pantsless scene in Short Cuts to later dramatic roles. She saves one of her best for this 1998 cult classic with Jeff Bridges in his iconic role of the Dude who’s pulled into a bizarre kidnapping adventure. The chase leads him to Maude, an artist who we first see stark naked in a harness, flying over a canvas to drop paint on top of it. She shows no shame with her nude body in front of the Dude before putting on a robe, an eccentric attitude that Moore wonderfully pulls off. She has a hookup with the Dude later that includes her rolling about in a nude ball with a pillow and somehow making it look natural. Moore is perfect for the world of the Cohen Brothers and a standout even in this amazing film.
14. Rebecca De Mornay – Risky Business
The movie that launched Tom Cruise to stardom, this 1983 hit has him as Joel, a high schooler who takes advantage of his parents being out of town to cut loose (including the now iconic dance scene in his underwear). His friend sets him up with Luna (Rebecca De Mornay), a prostitute and their first encounter is hot with her in just a shirt, showing her nether regions off as he takes her in his bedroom. There are complications with her stealing from his home and a showdown with a pimp but they end up having an incredibly steamy hookup on an El train roaring down the Chicago tracks. While Cruise got the big push, De Mornay was helped as well for a stand out performance to highlight this classic comedy.
13. Rose Byrne – Neighbors
In this 2014 movie, Byrne and Seth Rogen play a married couple thrown when their new neighbors are a fraternity who soon drive them crazy playing loud music and wild parties. When they try to go against them, they’re soon subjected to pranks that escalate things majorly. Byrne is a great highlight with pulling up her shirt to reveal a mixed-up bra baring her breasts while taking care of the kids and she and Rogen going at it on the couch, unaware that the frat brothers are watching it all. Her transformation from quiet wife to a wild harpy is a great reason to watch the movie as Byrne does her best to show her great body off and make their raunchy comedy a dirty fun time.
12. Leslie Mann – The Change-Up
This 2012 movie puts an adult spin on the classic “body switch” comedy trope. Jason Bateman and Ryan Reynolds are long-time best friends, the former married with kids and the latter a hot ladies’ man but each wishing they had the other’s life while peeing in a fountain together. The next day, it happens and each encourages the other to enjoy this as they can. As it happens, Reynolds has always had a thing for Bateman’s wife (Leslie Mann) and sees a chance for it as he hears her at night saying “I’m feeling it tonight.” As “Cherry Pie” plays, Mann enters nude with hair flowing, looking tremendous and Reynolds-as-Bateman is ready for fun. However, it turns out that her “feeling it” was something she ate and thus Bateman has to watch her on the toilet. It’s a wild bit that Mann sells well and while she may not be a hot looker as others on this list, she stands out here for a great comedic nude turn.
11. Cameron Diaz – Sex Tape
It took 20 years after her debut for Diaz to finally doff it on screen but it was worth the wait. In this 2014 film she and Jason Segal play a married couple who think the spark has gone out of things. So they make a sex tape to spice things up only to have it accidentally get uploaded, causing a wild chase to stop it from being sent to all their family and friends. It takes a while for us to see the tape itself but it’s hysterical as Diaz (and Segal) show off their rear ends a lot and Diaz also shows brief peeks at her breasts, the whole thing played for laughs with how awkward and crazy it all is rather than the sensual event they had planned. It was a fun scene that showed Diaz still has it and highlighting a fun flick.
10. Will Ferrell – Old School
This 2003 hit helped push Will Ferrell as a box office draw as he, Luke Wilson and Vince Vaughn play friends who decide to relieve their glory days by starting a fraternity. Ferrell is his wild self as he leads the new friends in a wild party, getting high and stripping naked to declare “we’re going streaking!” Cut to him running naked on a road, completely alone and his wife driving up in her car with friends to berate him. Ferrell is happy showing his naked ass off, including pushing it at his wife’s friends and so high he doesn’t even realize how bad it is. It showed the shameless approach that would lead Ferrell to success and the most memorable part of the movie.
9. Jennifer Aniston – The Break-Up and Horrible Bosses
Aniston has mostly avoided nudity but made a few good exceptions in these comedies. In The Break-Up, she and Vince Vaughn are a couple who split but neither wants to leave their great home so try to drive the other away. As part of her scheme, Aniston walks stark naked around the apartment, knowing it’s a sight that will affect Vaughn. It also affects us with a nice shot of her amazing rear end and the little smirk on Aniston’s face makes it even better.
In Bosses, she plays totally against type as a dentist who’s a bitch on wheels, putting the moves on her assistant and at one point, is clearly naked under her lab coat and acts like it’s totally natural. For all her talk of a nice gal in roles, when Aniston gets dirty, the results can be very good.
8. Joyce Hyser – Just One of the Guys
How Joyce Hyser never became a star is surprising as she proved herself in talent in this popular 1985 comedy. She plays Terry, an aspiring journalist convinced she’s not taken seriously by her teacher because of her good looks. So, she dresses up as a boy and enrolls in another school to prove herself there. We get whacky comedy of her as a guy from trying to avoid being a “skins” in a gym class to being set up with a date (Sherilyn Fenn). She meets Rick (Calyton Rohner), a nice guy who she helps become incredibly popular and soon starts falling for him.
It builds up to them at the prom, Terry trying to stop Rick from hooking up with someone else and when he asks why, she opens up her tuxedo shirt to reveal her bare breasts. His reaction is priceless (“wait, are those—–“) as she kisses him in front of everyone which he tries to brush off. It’s a “life lesson” movie in many ways but Hyser’s fun turn and that memorable topless scene make it a cult classic in so many ways.
7. Demi Moore – Striptease
A lot was made in 1996 of Moore being paid a then unheard of $12 million for the lead role of the adaptation of the best-selling novel and the movie itself wasn’t the hit expected. But you can’t blame that on Moore who does as best as she can in the lead as Erin, a single mom struggling to make ends meet by working at a strip club. Before she knows it, she’s involved in a wild adventure that involves a corrupt Senator (Burt Reynolds) and mobsters. Moore sure earns her money with several hot scenes showing that amazing (no doubt surgically enhanced) chest, including a hot performance for Reynolds on his boat. The movie itself may be so-so but Moore is the reason to watch and makes it worthwhile for that alone.
6. Jamie Lee Curtis – Trading Places
This smash comedy hit has Don Ameche and Ralph Ballamy as the Dukes, a pair of wealthy investors who, just for their amusement, conduct a “social experiment.” They arrange for well off upper class manager Louis (Dan Aykroyd) to be arrested for drug dealing and kicked out of his home and losing his money. At the same time, they arrange for Billy Ray Valentine (Eddie Murphy), a street crook, to be given the same job and success. As part of the downward spiral, the Dukes arrange for Ophelia (Curtiss), a hooker, to pretend to be a regular client of Louis to lose him his fiancée. Taking pity on the guy, Ophelia lets him stay at her place and when he comes to her room, she’s topless in front of a mirror, showing no real shame in it as it’s her job but showcasing she’s much smarter than she seems and just turning tricks to earn money for school. Curtiss is nice and sharp in the role that helped boost her to stardom more and showing a body that still holds up today.
5. Jason Segal – Forgetting Sarah Marshall
This hysterical 2008 comedy helped elevate Segal more as he both stars and wrote the script, playing a music composer living with the title character (Kristen Bell), the star of a popular cop show. When she comes home, he’s naked and doing a dance for her as he talks about a big vacation he has planned. However, she has decided to end their relationship and dump him. Segal is wonderful showing his devastation and refusal to dress as he pours out his heart but has it broken. His refusal to back down from her talk (“I’m sorry, would you like the pick out the outfit I wear when you dump me?”) showcases his strength that would make him relatable to the audience. It sets the movie’s tone nicely and Segal goes out all showing off to make it work and enjoy the whacky comedy.
4. Uma Thurman – The Adventures of Baron Munchausen
This 1989 comedy based on the classic stories of the infamous braggart is known for a wild style (no surprise as it’s Terry Gilliam) and being a major box office flop. However, it does showcase a moment that helped push Uma Thurman to prominence. As the Baron and his crew are brought before the court of the god Vulcan who treats them to a big party. The highlight is when a massive clamshell rises up from a pool and opens up to reveal Venus (Thurman), just as in the classic portrait and it’s no wonder those watching are stunned. Thurman certainly looks the part, literally dancing on air and a good light touch to the wild proceedings, showing off the beauty that would make her a star.
3. Shannon Elizabeth – American Pie
The 1999 hit was a great throw-back to the wild teen comedies of the 1980s and didn’t hold back with crazy sexual stuff from the infamous “pie” bit to Alyson Hannigan’s band camp stories. The highlight was Shannon Elizabeth as foreign exchange student Nadia who main character Jim (Jason Biggs) hopes to have as his “first time.” Setting up a webcam (still a new thing back then), Jim’s friends watch in awe as Nadia undresses to her panties, showing off an amazing rack that she checks out herself in the mirror. Naturally, Jim’s attempts to seduce her backfire and when the tape is released, turns him into a joke but Elizabeth is more than worth watching and you can believe how the gang are so hot for her.
2. Sacha Baron Cohen and Ken Davitian – Borat
His star may have fallen a bit but in 2006, Sacha Baron Cohen blew away moviegoers with his wild comedy that basked in being politically incorrect and taking advantage of a style of shooting so people had no idea they were being put on in a comedy. His character is on a quest to basically kidnap Pamela Anderson for his bride with his production assistant Azmat along for the cross-country ride.
While staying at a hotel, Borat exits the shower naked to find Azmat on the bed…enjoying a picture of Anderson. This sets off a massive wrestling match as the two completely naked men battle it out with obvious homoerotic overtones and utterly hysterical physical clashing. It soon becomes a chase down the hallways, pausing inside an elevator, then into a ballroom with a convention in the process as they fight along the tables. It’s even more wild as those in the ballroom didn’t know what was happening so their baffling expressions are genuine. Say what you will but Cohen went out of his way to make you laugh hard with this wild bit that highlighted the movie.
1. Phoebe Cates – Fast Times at Ridgemont High
It’s quite frankly one of the most iconic nude scenes in all of movies, a moment no teen growing up in the 1980s (and beyond) can possibly forget. Brad (Judge Reinhold) imagines local hottie Linda (Phoebe Cates) while at a pool party, emerging out of the pool with water dripping off her, talking of how hot he is and how badly she wants him. Of course, it’s all in his head as he’s in the bathroom pleasuring himself to the thought. His dream continues as Linda undoes her bikini top and unleashes those glorious breasts. However, the illusion is shattered when the real Linda gets out of the pool, heads to the bathroom and walks right in on Brad. It’s a classic moment that briefly made Cates a star and highlighting the lists of the best nude scenes in movie history.
