What scenes make actors uncomfortable and embarrassed? The correct thing to say in Hollywood is love scenes. You aren’t supposed to like them, and only a very few are willing to go against this trend and call these types of scenes “exciting”. There are many reasons why; from making your spouse jealous, to elevating your art to something above smut and perhaps to sound more professional, thus appealing to a wider audience. Do these actors actually do the deed? The answer for the most part is no.
There are a wide variety of tools used to make one think the actors are naked. A merkin, a wig for the female nether regions is used to cover the pubic area. In ancient times it did the same for prostitutes. For the man there is a modesty pouch. Various definitions appear everywhere, but essentially it is a skin-colored sock that covers the male genitalia. It helps avoid penetration. Women also wear flesh toned undergarments to avoid penetration. These are sometimes referred to as nude patches and require tape or glue to stick seamlessly. There are also pasties which cover the nipple and provide the illusion of an entire breast. The point being, the love making isn’t real and there are all sorts of other things and techniques actors use to keep it that way. Is it any wonder then that it is taboo in Hollywood to get aroused when performing these acts, as it is deemed unprofessional. In many ways it is hard to get aroused when one has to wear all of this baggage that is glued to your body.
15. Jason Statham Had To Do It In Public For Crank 2
Jason Statham plays the man that constantly needs to be charged to stay alive in Crank, High Voltage. The character always needed an adrenaline rush as he was always minutes away from death and love making is as good a rush as any. So, if you’re in a crowded mall with your gal, and you are about to die, then what’s a poor boy gonna do?
Jason commented on the scene saying, ”Love scene? That was a tough one, yeah. Well, I might just get on the table and drop my pants and probably feel the same way I felt that day. You just got a whole group of people staring at your pasty white bottom. You got to try and act – it could get a bit crude, so I’m not going to go there”. Imagine doing this with all the cell phone cameras going click, click!
14. Ryan Reynolds And The Smiley Faces On Olivia Wilde In The Change-Up: 2011
In the movie, a married man switches bodies with his best friend, who is a huge playboy. Ryan Reynolds had the enviable task of having the playboy’s body. In one of the scenes, Olivia Wilde‘s nipple pasties, had smiling faces. This really threw the actor off.
Ryan Reynolds said, “In the scene, Olivia Wilde is sitting there, and I take her top off and the bra off, and she has those pasties on, but she’s drawn these adorable little smiley faces on them. And I forget every line in the scene, not just from this movie but from every other movie I’ve done… At some point in the scene, she takes my hands and puts them on her breasts. I take my hands away, and I look down at my hands, and there are two frickin’ smiley faces on them and I have no idea what to do. And I reflexively, like an idiot, just put my hands right back on her breasts!” He added. How embarrassing indeed, who wouldn’t be embarrassed about placing their hands on those breasts?!
13. Emilia Clarke And The Fluffy Pink Sock In Game of Thrones: 2010
Emilia Clarke portrays one of the main characters that have yet to die on the ever popular show. In her first year she had a fair amount of love scenes on a show replete with such acts. Later she refused to perform nudes scenes until very recently. As specified before, male actors use a modesty sock to avoid insertion during filming. In one of the scenes, Jason Momoa used a fluffy pink sock instead of the skin colored one, which prompted the actress to laugh hysterically. According to her “It’s huge, and it’s pink, and I don’t know what to do,” she said on The Graham Norton Show. Jason must be grinning ear to ear with that compliment!
12. Lena Dunham Was Embarrassed To Cover It All Up In Girls
Some actresses want that nude patch. Others were just too embarrassed to wear such a thing and just don’t give a damn. Lena Dunham is one of the latter. The actress in the TV comedy drama about four young girls living in the Big Apple had this to say: ”I stopped wearing the nude patch after the first season of Girls.” Lena was also outspoken about her fellow actresses who say that: ”S*x scenes are so mechanical; it doesn’t feel like anything.” According to Lena however, these scenes do feel like something; ”It feels like someone f***g you! It’s confusing.” Another spectacular quote from Lena: “I will be lying there, kind of being slammed by a naked body, thinking, ‘I want out of this bed. I want out of this scene. I want out of this life. Who did this to me?’ And I realized, I’m my own boss. I’ve written it. I’m directing it. I’m the person holding myself in sexual slavery.”
11. Jesse Metcalfe Needed A Minute To Try Again On Desperate Housewives
Go figure that all that crap on your private parts means that actors usually don’t get an erection. After all, this is unprofessional in Hollywood. But on Desperate Housewives, the youngest boy toy of them all, played by Jesse Metcalfe, sometimes had to tell the staff to wait a minute before re-filming a love scene with Eva Longoria. According to Jesse: ”It happens. It doesn’t happen that frequently because there are a lot of people on set, and it can be very technical, but it happens from time to time. Yeah! As a matter of fact, in the first scene we ever had, where Gabriella and John first had sex, we were rehearsing and then the director was like, ‘OK, get out of bed, we have to reset the set’, and I was like, I need a minute.” We wonder what thoughts the young man required in that minute to reset his body.
10. Maria Schneider Felt Violated By Marlon Brando In Last Tango In Paris: 1972
The movie was made to be an erotic drama, about an older man coping with his wife’s suicide. Marlon Brando (at age 49) played this man. He then meets a young Parisian woman named Jeanne, played by a 19 year old Maria Schneider. The characters then begin a rather perturbed erotic relation. The movie’s portrayal of erotic violence caused international headlines and turmoil, eventually earning the film an X-Rating. The rating was only recently dropped to NC-17. Despite this, Brando got nominated for an Oscar and Maria became famous, which in the end did her no good.
Maria felt violated in one of the scenes that according to her, “wasn’t in the original script. The truth is it was Marlon who came up with the idea … They only told me about it before we had to film the scene and I was so angry… you can’t force someone to do something that isn’t in the script, but at the time, I didn’t know that… Marlon said to me: ‘Maria, don’t worry, it’s just a movie,’ but during the scene, even though what Marlon was doing wasn’t real, I was crying real tears.”
In a rather stunning statement about the movie and the era it was filmed in, Maria then stated: “I felt humiliated and to be honest, I felt a little r*ped, both by Marlon and by Bertolucci. After the scene, Marlon didn’t console me or apologise. Thankfully, there was just one take.” She would later add that, “I never went naked in a movie again after Last Tango, even though I was offered many such roles. People today are used to such things but when the film opened in 1972, it was scandalous.” All of these quotes came from an interview in 2007.
9. Jennifer Lawrence Had To Get Drunk In Passengers
Jennifer is a Hollywood Virgin, never having had to drop her clothes or appear nude thus far in her young career. But at 25 years old, she finally did it! Of course, no one can see the results until Christmas time, as her film Passengers, is not due out until then. Who was the lucky guy? None other than Chris Pratt. The young actress was so nervous she did what many people do in real life to calm the nerves, she got drunk before filming her love scene. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the actress had this to say: “Everything was done right; nobody did anything wrong. It’s just a bizarre experience, It’s really weird.” She later went on to say that getting “really really drunk” only made matters worse. “It led to more anxiety when I got home because I was like, ‘What have I done? I don’t know… He was married, and it was going to be my first time kissing a married man and guilt is the worst feeling in your stomach. I knew it was my job, but I couldn’t tell my stomach that. So I called my mom and I was like, ‘Will you just tell me it’s okay?’ It was just very vulnerable. That was the most vulnerable I’ve ever been.”
8. Michelle Williams Needed A Long Drive To Forget Her Love Scenes With Ryan Gosling In Blue Valentine: 2010
This is more a sense of frustration than embarrassment. Most girls would die at the thought of getting intimate with Ryan Gosling for any reason, but not Michelle Williams. When explaining her love scenes with the heartthrob, she had this to say: “We shot the beginning of our relationship first, and it was fun and alive. Then we did the sex scenes and it was… toxic. Ryan and I had stopped relating to each other as Ryan and Michelle. Those scenes took forever. I had a long drive from set to home each night, and I would roll down all the windows and turn up the music as loud as I could and hang my head out the window like a dog and scream. It was my escape.” Interesting, to say the least.
7. Ryan Gosling And The Man Crush In Crazy Stupid Love: 2011
This movie highlights the trials of a middle-aged divorcee who gets dating tips from a playboy type on how to get girls in bars. In the movie, it was Gosling’s character (the playboy) who seemingly got upset at Steve Carell’s character’s (the divorcee) reluctance to look at his naked body, thus uttering the words in the picture above. In reality it was Ryan Gosling who was apprehensive, as he had this to say: “You can imagine why the naked scenes with Steve were embarrassing. But if you lose your comedic virginity, you have to lose it to Steve. He’s very gentle.” Ryan did a good job of covering his shame in the film, though.
6. Kristen Schaal Let One Go in Last Man On Earth
Everyone has done it, whether you’re a girl or a boy. A gassy stomach just happens and sometimes, in the heat of the moment, you just gotta let go. It happens to the best of us and it happened to Kristen Schaal when filming her comedy series. When describing her fart with co-star Will Forte, she had this to say: ”Carol is aggressively and sexually talking to Phil – that’s a lot of diaphragm work, which is also in the danger zone of where the beans are… Finally I just looked at Will and I was like, I’m gonna fart on you. And I did. If you fart on your scene partner it’s the most intimate you can get.”
5. Dave Franco Needed Makeup On His Buttocks To Look Pretty In Neighbors: 2014
The Seth Rogen comedy about a middle-aged couple fighting the fraternity house next door for some peace and quiet, definitely had its raunchy moments. The antagonist to Seth Rogen’s character was played by Dave Franco, the brother of that other more famous guy with the same last name. The poor guy woke up one morning and discovered that his posterior was quite an ugly spectacle. It had a large pimple. You can’t have that on film, so a poor cosmetician had to apply makeup to his naked butt to cover the whole thing up. Dave had this to say on the experience: “I woke up that morning, and I had a giant pimple on my a**. I had to go to the makeup artist who I had also met that week and be like, can we go in the other room, and you’ll put makeup literally on my a**?”
4. Christopher Mintz Plasse Did It In Front Of Mommy In Superbad: 2007
There is no better name to put on your fake ID than ‘McLovin’. That’s sure to get the authorities off your back. The young 17 year old actor that made this film great had one other big obstacle to overcome. He had to lose his virginity on screen in front of Mommy. It’s the law in Hollywood for actors under 18. That’s the second biggest horror for a kid, just behind seeing your folks doing it. The actor had this to say: “It was because I was 17. I was just sitting there… waiting for my mom to drive down to the set. She got there, and I had fake sexual intercourse in front of her.” A little understated for a kid that had to go through the most awkward thing an actor can do.
3. Ashton Kutcher Couldn’t Finish The Job In No Strings Attached: 2011
There is one big difference in real-life and in the movies. Unless you just want to go to bed and just get it over with, endurance is good. Unfortunately, filming these types of scenes just takes forever at which point everyone just wants you to get it over with, so that they can go home and sleep. Ashton just couldn’t get it done fast enough and director Ivan Reitman, just told him to speed it along. According to the actor: “Ivan comes back in and is like, ‘I think you need to orgasm sooner,'” ComingSoon.net quoted Kutcher as saying. “Your male machismo is like, no, no, it would take me much longer than this! … ‘I just start by apologizing… I think somebody told me, and I’m not sure who the actor was. I think it was Sir Laurence Olivier who said it, but… I always use Sir Laurence. When in doubt, use Sir Laurence Olivier. I think he said something to the effect of, I apologize if I get aroused and I apologize if I do not get aroused.”
2. Henry Cavill Forgot To Position His Baggage Properly On The Tudors
The star of Superman and the TV Series The Tudors, that period piece that was more erotic than what that time period probably allowed, became an expert in love making scenes. It has already been said that getting aroused while filming is a no, no, and this man figured out just how to do it except for one fateful day. The actor explained it like this: “A girl had to be on top of me, she had spectacular breasts, and I hadn’t rearranged my stuff into a harmless position. She’s basically rubbing herself all over me and, um, it got a bit hard,” Cavill told Men’s Health. “I had to apologize profusely afterward. It’s not great when you’re in a professional acting environment, and somebody gets a boner, is it? No, not acceptable.” In the real world, wouldn’t the girl get upset if he didn’t get one of those? Just asking.
1. Allison Williams Had To Cover Her Butt In Cake
It’s one thing to be kinky, and another to show it on screen. Allison Williams had to film a scene on the Girls TV series where her rear gets eaten by her co-star. She had to do something to make it easier on both of them. After all, if you’re not really aroused or into this kind of thing, it ain’t that tasty or exciting. When the actress was interviewed on Vulture, she explained her solution for the 30 second scene: she asked the makeup girl to make her butt smell like cake. In the end vanilla cream was applied all over her posterior, making it more palatable for her co-star Ebon Moss-Bachrach. The actresses’ biggest concern was what her dad, news anchor Brian Williams, would think. In the end it was all okay. I think her dad had bigger problems at the time.
