Twitter is a wonderful online platform where celebrities can personally connect to their fans. Uncensored access into the lives and inner thoughts of our idols can lead to hours of entertainment. There are, however, some stars that should not be allowed the password for even their own accounts as they just can’t control typing out some really embarrassing statements. You would be surprised just how much stupid you can pack into 140-characters.
For us mere mortals, if we have an embarrassing social media moment, it can be quickly deleted and forgotten about. When you have over a million followers, this is not such an easy task as everyone has a phone or computer which is able to screen shot your most shameful tweets. Gone are the days where we can just forget it happened – that would be making life too easy for them.
The twittersphere never has a dull moment as we have seen it all, from drunken rants to outrageous political comments. These celebrities really have sent the internet into a frenzy of “I can’t believe they just tweeted that” more than once.
15. Rita Ora’s Desperation For 100,000 Retweets
Last year, Rita Ora threatened to release new music and the ransom was 100,000 retweets. In 10 hours, the “Poison” singer gained less than 2,000 retweets, so she did what any respectful musician would do in this position and claimed that she was hacked.
The tweet was deleted the next day and in its place she posted: “When it’s ready we will drop music! Luckily I caught the hacker really quickly and deleted the post. Thank you!” A red-faced Ora will probably ask for 10,000 retweets next time which we’re sure she will be more than capable of achieving.
14. Rob Kardashian Calls Out Rita Ora For Cheating
Whilst we’re on the subject of Rita Ora’s embarrassing Twitter moments, here is another moment courtesy of her ex-boyfriend, Rob Kardashian, that she probably wants to forget. In 2012, Rob went on an insane Twitter rant claiming that Ora cheated on him with “20 dudes” in a bid to kick-start her career.
This bitter break-up lasted 30 minutes before all the tweets were deleted. It was his older sister, Khloe Kardashian, who encouraged him to calm it down by tweeting: “Rob, be nice kidddddd”. Later, Rob returned with a more dignified rant simply claiming that he places “loyalty” and “self-respect” over anything else. Still, twenty dudes though?
13. Hayley Williams Reveals All To Fans
It was a very good day for Paramore fans back in 2010. Frontwoman Hayley Williams accidentally tweeted a naked selfie which was then immediately deleted. She claimed that it was those pesky hackers again but fans believed it could have been a misplaced DM.
Although the selfie was online for less than a minute, it had already become a screen-shot and was in circulation around the world. The Aeroplanes singer will just have to remember to just be more careful when posting in the future.
12. Jason Biggs Malaysian Flight Disaster
Last year, Jason Biggs found out that there is such a thing as “too soon”. It was breaking news around the world that 298 people had lost their lives after a Malaysian Airlines flight was shot down above the Russian-Ukraine border. Biggs thought this would be a great opportunity to tweet: “Anyone wanna buy my Malaysian Airlines frequent flier miles?”
The American Pie star received a huge backlash from the general public and defended his actions by calling out the “a**holes”. After probably getting a quick nudge from his management, he changed his tune by tweeting the sincerest of apologies to all of his 450,000 followers. Lesson learned not to cash in on your comedy game during a disaster.
11. 50 Cent Grandma Troubles
50 Cent should not be allowed on Twitter, period. His ongoing troubles with his Grandma were well-documented on his timeline. In 2010, he tweeted: “I can’t believe my grand mothers making me take Out the garbage I’m rich f*** this I’m going home I don’t need this s***”.
Then later in the year he shockingly tweeted: “My grandma pregnant again trying to talk her out of keeping it”. Understandably, this shocked a few fans. The tweet was later removed and his Grandma was left to decide about the future of her child without involving the whole twitter-verse.
10. Mary J. Blige Is Upset People Underestimate Her “Intelligents”
You would think with eleven albums under her belt that Mary J. Blige could afford a phone with spell check. The R&B superstar is notorious for her misspelled tweets but this one really is ironically stupid.
Before the tweet was quickly removed, she asked the world why they always “understand estimate my intelligents”. It was apparent that she meant: “underestimate my intelligence”. Her tweet was in response to those who were angry that she lied about her acceptance into Howard University. It did not surprise fans after this tweet that she was rejected.
9. Hulk Hogan Creeps On His Own Daughter
What’s so creepy about posting a tempting picture of your daughter’s legs on Twitter? Oh, just about everything. In 2013, Hulk Hogan took this snap of his then 24-year-old daughter, Brooke Hogan, sporting a tiny pair of denim shorts. This was five years after he was photographed rubbing tanning oil onto his teenage daughter’s legs during a beach holiday as she lay on a sun lounger.
Brooke has always defended her close relationship with her father. The pair raised quite a few eyebrows last year when Brooke appeared at a PETA event completely naked and her father accompanied her. Although many find these situations uncomfortable, Brooke defended her father when she tweeted: “A dad can’t even be proud of his daughter without sickos makin it something it’s not. Really?? Go back to your farm animals. #ignorant”.
8. CeeLo Teaches The World About Consent
In 2014, Cee Lo Green decided to destroy his music career by tweeting some outrageous comments about sexual consent and rape. The Grammy award winner tweeted: “If someone is passed out they’re not even WITH you consciously! so WITH Implies consent” and “People who have really been raped REMEMBER!!!”
The singer was dropped from the line-up of several music festivals and his TV show on TBS, The Good Life, was cancelled. He is currently on three years formal probation for having sexual intercourse with a woman who he had given ecstasy to during a dinner in 2012. The tweets were deleted and he issued an apology but the damage had already been done.
7. Charlie Sheen Attacks The Mother Of His Children
After publicly insulting each other for years, Charlie Sheen and Denise Richards finally called a truce for the sake of their two daughters. When Sheen received the news that his ex-wife planned to move out of the neighbourhood they both shared, he was not happy.
He tweeted this message which was intended as a mockery of Richards’ name: “This rules. The name Denise Richards as an anagram or jumbled means ‘Charred Insides.'” He very quickly deleted the tweet after previously promising he wouldn’t attack Richards on social media again.
6. Bow Wow Tweets His DUI
Rapper Bow Wow knew how to start off his 2010 – with a DUI. He deleted all the incriminating evidence the next day when he was sober enough and probably realised he made a complete jerk out of himself. His tweet read: “Im f**ked up!!! Ohhhh damn. Y i drive the lambo. Chris might have to drive after next spot”.
Bow Wow was celebrating the New Year by driving around in his Lamborghini under the influence with Chris Brown. Bow Wow had so much trouble with his account that he deleted it and started again by reinventing himself using his real name, Shad Moss.
5. Kim Kardashian Prays For Israel
Kim Kardashian tweeted her prayers during the Israel-Hamas conflict and quickly learned that she will never get involved in politics again. In 2012, she tweeted: “Praying for everyone in Israel” and then “Praying for everyone in Palestine and across the world”.
Thousands of Palestinians, both soldiers and civilians, have since been killed in Gaza since the Israeli airstrikes began. Kim found that most of her followers turned against her and some even responded with death threats over her ignorance. She deleted the two tweets and then posted on her website an official apology.
4. Dr.Phil Tries To Understand The Basics Of Rape
Dr. Phil didn’t delete this vile tweet quick enough before it was used as a screen shot to make an example of him around the world. In 2013, he tweeted “If a girl is drunk, is it OK to have sex with her? Reply yes or no to @drphil #teensaccsused”. Dr Phil got quite a backlash from people who thought his tweet was promoting a rape culture.
One user @femme_esq, replied with some common sense: “You know good and goddamn well that “asking” when a girl “deserves” to be raped is a destructive question in itself”. Another user, @ChinHuaLu, tweeted: “If a guy is drunk is it okay to spend all the money in his wallet?” It’s safe to say that he will think before he tweets ever again.
3. Lindsay Lohan Fakes Her Own Pregnancy
Attention-starved Lindsay Lohan tweeted that she was pregnant in 2013. Just a week earlier the Mean Girls actress had been spotted binge-drinking in Brazil so many were concerned about the health of her child. She was spotted in nightclubs, where she was booked for personal appearances, crying under the table with her dress up to her waist.
They need not worry though as there was no baby. Lindsay Lohan admitted it was an April Fools joke even though the tweet was almost 24 hours after the deadline. The tweet was deleted after everyone began to call out the washed-up star for trying to grab at headlines.
2. Susan Boyle Has One Hell Of A Party
Susan Boyle discovered in 2012 that sometimes hashtags can go very wrong. To promote her latest album she used the hashtag #susanalbumparty. It was supposed to read “Susan’s Album Party” not “Su’s Anal Bum Party” which some people thought it did. Much to nobody’s surprise the tweet was eventually taken down by a possibly very embarrassed PR team.
We don’t think her management should beat themselves up too much about using the hashtag as it began trending worldwide for more than 24 hours. This proved once again that there is no such thing as a bad press.
1. Katy Perry Woke Up Like This
Russell Brand and Katy Perry were not without a few rows throughout their two year marriage and one would have been about this hideous tweet. Brand, being the comedian of the household, thought it would be hilarious to tweet a picture of his wife first thing in the morning. Without her make-up on the “I Kissed A Girl” singer looks barely recognizable.
Brand told Heart FM that he tweeted the picture by accident when the pair were playing around in the morning. It was very quickly deleted but we’re guessing Perry did not forgive her husband for quite some time.
