We’ve all heard of celebrity feuds, but these actors and actresses take it to a whole new level. From romantic relationships that crumbled, to extra-marital affairs, and the ever-popular catty girl fights, some celebs just can’t seem to get along with each other. Some of these examples go back years, even decades. Is there any chance that we will see reconciliation? Maybe for some of these feuds, but the truth is, a lot of them are very deep and look at those they’re here to stay.
So what is it that makes celebrities fight with each other in Hollywood? Well for one, Tinsel Town is a place with lots of pressure. Whether celebs are being forced to have the perfect body, the best career, or the most successful relationship, it seems as though they are always under a microscope. That is enough to make the most level-headed person go off the deep end. Unfortunately, the celebs on this list have succumbed to the Hollywood pressure and there are no some film and TV projects that they won’t be able to take because of the other actors who are in them.
Our list includes feuds that happened in TV and movies, and some of these spats were very publicized. Others were more under the radar, but the fact of the matter is: even celebrities have tough times. And if you thought that people matured and played nice when they hit adulthood, well…this list will prove otherwise. Have fun!
15. Ian Somerhalder & Nina Dobrev
These two celebrities were like a powerful couple just a few years ago, so what happened? Ian and Nina were working together on The Vampire Diaries while they were also beginning a romantic relationship with each other. Things looked so hot and spicy, both on and off the set, and we thought that these two made a perfect couple. But then, they split up and Ian started dating Nikki Reed, another vampiric actress who starred in The Twilight Saga. Cue the drama, especially once Ian was promoted to being a director on the show. He had to direct everyone, including his ex-girlfriend, Nina. That didn’t work out too well, with Nina deliberately avoiding and ignoring Ian. Then Nina posted a cryptic Instagram post that seemed to be directed at Nikki. It became a huge love triangle feud, one that might still continue to this day. Obviously, Nina and Ian can no longer work together.
14. Tyrese Gibson & James Franco
Back in 2006, Tyrese Gibson and James Franco were working together on the film Annapolis. Franco had a reputation for doing intense method acting back then, so maybe that explains why he was always in such a foul mood on the set of Annapolis. His co-star Gibson definitely noticed this, and it brought about some ill-will between the two actors. Gibson stated that he never enjoyed Franco’s company while they were working on the film, and since this was a film with lots of fighting in it, Franco took it upon himself to get into the gym and start training hard. While filming the fighting scenes between Franco and Gibson, there was plenty of tension, and that resulted in some spats between the actors. Gibson reportedly stated that Franco wanted to “blow up his hotel room,” attesting to the fact that Franco was a hostile person on set. How much of that was method acting?
13. Shannen Doherty & Alyssa Milano
Actresses Shannen Doherty and Alyssa Milano famously starred together in the hit TV series Charmed. However, in 2001, Doherty ended up leaving the show and most news outlets said it was because of the fighting that she and Milano did on set. Milano said that she still doesn’t know if Doherty was fired or if she chose to leave, but Milano did say that there was definitely a rough high school vibe to the set. That’s because Holly Marie Combs was also starring on the TV show with Doherty and Milano. Combs and Doherty were really good friends, and then when Milano joined the mix, it was sort of like a Mean Girls type of thing. As for Doherty, she said that the Charmed set was filled with too much drama and not enough professionalism. Hm, maybe Bowling For Soup was right when they said that “high school never ends.”
12. Debra Winger & Shirley MacLaine
Man, old people sure do hold a grudge, don’t they? At least, Debra Winger and Shirley MacLaine do. The actresses starred in the famous film Terms of Endearment together, but their real relationship was anything but endearing. Winger and MacLaine became some of the most popular leading ladies of their era, and Winger got into a huge spat when MacLaine brought home the award for Best Female Actress for Terms of Endearment. MacLaine reportedly announced that she “deserved” the award, which upset Winger even more. The actress is now in her golden years and she continues to harbor a whole lot of resentment against MacLaine. Winger refuses to acknowledge that MacLaine rightly earned her award, or that she can be a grown-up and forgive everything. To be fair, Debra won an award as well. Besides being nominated for the Best Female Actress Oscar, Winger won the National Society of Film Critics award.
11. Mariah Carey & Nicki Minaj
There was a brief period of time when American Idol was changing things up with its celebrity judging panel. They tried out a combination of Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj, which turned out to be one of the biggest disasters in Hollywood. The problem here was that both Mariah and Nicki are huge divas, and they always need to have the spotlight. Put them both in the same room and on the same TV program, and there are going to be sparks. Lots of them. There was even a moment when the two were judging an audition and they ended up getting into a heated argument with curse words and Nicki calling Mariah “her f***ing highness” before storming out of the room. Mariah ended up calling for extra security, which greatly offended Nicki, and that was just the start of their problems with each other. These two women must never see each other EVER.
10. George Takei & William Shatner
Can you believe that actors George Takei and William Shatner have been at each other’s throats for more than four decades? These two dudes need to grow up. Takei took an almost immediate hatred of Shatner as the two began filming Star Trek together. Shatner played Captain Kirk, while Takei played the character Hikaru Sulu. Takei spoke out against his co-star, saying that Shatner never allowed him to progress as a character, which kept him in minor and secondary roles throughout the Star Trek series. Takei also claimed that Shatner was full of himself and very egotistic on the set, and that he probably still is that way today. Hey, you can’t teach an old dog new tricks, right? What’s even more messed up is that Shatner got angry when he wasn’t invited to Takei’s wedding. Yet according to Takei, Shatner would blatantly ignore him on the set! We’re Team Takei on this one.
9. Kristen Stewart & Rupert Sanders
The actress best known for her role in the Twilight film series (and for her romantic relationship with actor Robert Pattinson,) was involved in some ugly drama when she was revealed to be having an affair with Rupert Sanders, who was the director for the film Snow White and the Huntsman. In the film, Kristen played Snow White, and she was dating Robert at the time. Oh, and Rupert was married to a woman with whom he had two kids with. However, that didn’t stop Kristen from being seduced by Rupert and tarnishing her reputation. Calling it a “traumatic period” that turned her world upside down, Kristen has been able to come to terms with what happened, although it did mean that she had to split up with Robert. Now she can never ever work with Rupert Sanders again because that would just be really awkward and probably stir up some bad juju.
8. Kendall Jenner & Kim Kardashian
If you think it sounds weird that sisters wouldn’t work together, you’re right. It is weird! But then again, this is the Kardashian-Jenner family that we’re talking about, and they are anything but normal. So, how did this whole thing start? Well, it turns out that there is no ill-will between the two sisters. It’s just that Kendall Jenner is trying to become a driving force in the modelling industry, and she’s actually doing a good job. She even models with the likes of Gigi Hadid and Karlie Kloss. As for Kim Kardashian, well, she is more of a C-list celebrity who got famous by showing her entire naked body to the public in a leaked sex tape she made with Ray J in 2007. You can see how Kendall wouldn’t want that kind of press to interfere with her modelling career, right? No hard feelings, Kim, you two will always be family.
7. Kevin Smith & Bruce Willis
What’s the beef between Kevin Smith and Bruce Willis? While this is technically an actor – director feud, it is a good addition to our list. Director Kevin Smith was working with actor Bruce Willis in Live Free or Die Hard. Apparently Kevin Smith saved his disgruntled attitude towards Bruce Willis for his memoir: Tough Shit, in which he wrote that Willis was lazy, unproductive, and unmotivated on the set. He always made it difficult to work with him and whenever he entered the room the environment just became toxic and “unpleasant.” Wow, those are harsh words. Smith even compared working with Willis to working for Domino’s Pizza, saying that he had a better experience working for the fast-food restaurant than he did with the actor. Willis never responded to Smith’s comments or the memoir, presumably choosing to take the high road. We sense a lot of fabrication on Smith’s part, but we’d prefer these two stay away from each other.
6. Sylvester Stallone & Richard Gere
This celebrity feud is quite funny, but it was a moment of intense emotion and anger for these actors when it happened. It was all because of a stupid little sandwich – really! Richard Gere was working on set with Sylvester Stallone when the bulky actor, when Stallone decided to take a breather and sit in his car. Gere wanted to join him and he brought his lunch along. He was eating a sandwich and Stallone could see the goopy mess between those two slices of bread. He declared that if Gere dropped anything in his car, he would never speak to him again. So what happened? Some mustard spilled out of Gere’s sandwich as he was taking a bite and it landed on Stallone’s pants. Needless to say, all hell broke lose and that was the end of their acting partnership. The lesson here is never underestimate the power of condiments.
5. Bill Murray & Lucy Liu
These actors worked together on Charlie’s Angels, but their relationship behind the scenes was anything but angelic. Apparently Murray and Liu hate each other and never want to work together ever again. They were shooting the film back in 2000, and for some reason, Murray took it upon himself to tell Liu that she was a terrible actress. What the heck, dude?! Although she’s small, Lui is mighty, and she fought back against Murray’s comments by trying to punch him in the face. Things ended up getting so intense that they had to call security to come and restrain Liu and protect Murray! In later interviews, Murray tried to downplay the incident, saying it was just a small argument, but the truth is that it was a big deal. So big that Murray was not cast in the Charlie’s Angels sequel. Instead, Full Throttle featured actor Bernie Mac in Murray’s place.
4. Jennifer Garner & Scott Foley
In case you have been too caught up in the whole Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck debacle, let us bring you back to the feud that the actress had with her first husband, Scott Foley. These two absolutely refuse to speak to each other and there is no way that any sane person would allow them to be in the same room with one another. So what happened that made Jennifer and Scott vow to never have contact with each other ever again? They had a very public and very sloppy divorce, one that put a stain on both of their lives. Even so, Scott went on to remarry and live a very quiet life, while Jennifer continued a pivotal acting career. In the end, it was Scott who blamed Jennifer for the divorce (they were married for four years,) saying that she started getting cozy with her co-star at the time, Michael Vartan.
3. Nick Nolte & Julia Roberts
Julia Roberts and Nick Nolte starred in the film I Love Trouble together, and it seemed that they did method acting in preparation for their roles. That’s because off the set and away from the camera, these two celebs absolutely despise each other. In fact, it may be one of the worst Hollywood feuds we can think of. The 1994 film cast Julia Roberts and Nick Nolte in two pivotal roles, yet the actor and actress were at such odds with each other that their scenes had to be shot exclusively apart. Filming separate scenes for each actor seems like such a drag; we don’t know how the producers put up with it. Even so, the film was a success and afterward, Julia and Nick never had to see each other again. Even though this was over 20 years ago, Julia Roberts still stands by her comment that Nick was “charming,” yet “disgusting.” As for Nick, he called Julia “not a nice person,” claiming that everyone knows it.
2. Terrence Howard & Robert Downey, Jr.
There was a famous feud between actors Terrence Howard and Robert Downey Jr. back when the Iron Man movie series was all the rage. To be honest, Robert Downey Jr. is a mighty fine Iron Man. However, he got himself into trouble with Terrence Howard a few years back. According to Terrence, Robert’s rise to being the famous superhero was all because of Terrence’s help. Yet when it came time to do a sequel of the movie, Robert booted Terrence out and asked for a pay raise – from the funds that were going to be used for Terrence’s part in the film. Ouch. Whether there is real merit to this accusation appears to be unknown, but back in February, it seemed that the actors had managed to be civil when they saw each other at Brian Grazer’s wedding, where they were both guests. They even snapped an Instagram photo together.
1. Hugh Jackman & Angelina Jolie
For those of you who don’t know, actor Hugh Jackman is married to Deborra Lee-Furness, and she has some restrictions for her husband. He does not have her blessing to work with Angelina Jolie ever again. Why? Because Angelina has a reputation in Hollywood for being a man-stealer. We all remember what happened between Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston. The two celebs were a high-profile couple when wham! Angelina swooped in and stole Brad from right under Jennifer’s nose. Deborra Lee-Furness does not want the same thing happening to Hugh, especially since the actor still has his boyish good looks and witty charm. All it will take is one romantic scene with Angelina for him to be tempted to be unfaithful. Or at least, that’s what Deborra seems to think. There is another “rule” in the couple’s relationship: they cannot be apart for more than 2 weeks at a time.
