It’s no secret that many of the men in Hollywood have reputations for being pretty “friendly” when it comes to women. It seems like we hear about a famous actor having a new wife or “girlfriend” at least every few months. Fans of these celebrities are intrigued with their love lives, and critics of the actors think they should “settle down.” Either way, millions of people are watching, which keeps these talented Hollywood gentlemen in the forefront of entertainment media.
However, there are some actors who actually love the women they’re with. Some would even say that these guys are “whipped” by their WAGS (wives and girlfriends). And when you think about it, is that such a bad thing? After all, knowing that a super-famous guy is completely in love with you can definitely make a woman’s life just a little more fun. And when women are happy, so are their men. So, when you think about it, “whipped” celebrity husbands and boyfriends can actually be pretty appealing. Plus, it’s really nice to see a loving relationship in Hollywood, or in the rest of the world, for that matter. Here are 13 Hollywood actors who are “whipped” by their hot WAGS.
13. Tom Hanks
Actor Tom Hanks has been married to his wife, fellow actor Rita Wilson, since 1988. Hanks stated that he finally realized what marriage was supposed to be like when he met Wilson. He shared that he feels carefree and easygoing around her, but he also realizes the seriousness of their commitment. Recently, the Hanks’ shared that Wilson was suffering from breast cancer, but she’s expected to fully recover. She’s got plenty of love and support from her man, which definitely helps. It also helps that the two have enjoyed significant success in Hollywood, which gives them just one more thing in common.
12. Michael J. Fox
When Michael J. Fox was one of the stars of Family Ties, an actress named Jennifer Pollen played his girlfriend. The two hit it off in real life, and became husband and wife in 1988. Ten years later, Fox made the news again when he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. Since then, he has done a lot to bring awareness to the condition and raise money for medical research. Michael J. Fox has stated that when he looks at his wife, he has “two thoughts.” First, he thinks that she becomes “more beautiful every second,” and secondly he prides himself on making the right choice. We don’t hear much from Pollen, so we’re assuming she’s busy basking in all that love from her famous hubby. How sweet.
11. Tom Waits
Singer/songwriter Tom Waits is still popular for the song Jersey Girl, and his wife Kathleen Brennan, serves as the inspiration for his creativity. Waits has said that Brennan is “out of this world” and that he’s a “lucky man.” He also bragged on her, saying that she knows how to tend to African violets, but can also fix a truck. The two have been married since 1980. Since we don’t hear much about them in the news, that’s usually a good sign that the two are secure in their relationship and aren’t together just for the publicity. Yes, that still happens sometimes in Hollywood.
10. Jeff Bridges
Actor Jeff Bridges, also known as ‘The Dude’, has been married to his wife Susan Geston since 1974. At the time, Geston was a waitress and was working to pay for college. When she and Bridges met, she had a broken nose, since she’d recently been in a car accident. Still, Jeff knew that she was the woman he wanted to marry, and called their meeting love at first sight. Even though the two have been married for nearly 40 years, Bridges still has eyes for only her. He has even stated that Geston “holds the kite strings” and lets him get a little wild and crazy from time to time, but also knows how to reel him back in. Sounds like he’s whipped—and proud of it.
9. Robert Downey, Jr.
Robert Downey, Jr. is best known for his titular role in Iron Man these days, but he’s been in the industry for decades. Unfortunately, Downey had a long battle with drugs (he was introduced to marijuana by his father), and made a recovery in 2003. This was also the year he met his wife, Susan Levin. Downey has not been shy at all when it comes to expressing his love for Levin, stating that he’d be “bussing tables at the Daily Grill” if it wasn’t for her. The couple recently welcomed their second child, and Robert Downey, Jr. is often seen snuggling up to his wife on the red carpet.
8. Ian Somerhalder
Vampire Diaries actor Ian Somerhalder is head over heels for his wife Nikki Reed. He’s also had to deal with jealous fans saying mean things about her, but that just comes with the territory of being a heartthrob. Somerhalder took to Instagram to let fans know that there’s no way they could hate Reed if they actually knew her. He also called his wife a “compassionate and beautiful human being.” Ian also told fans to “put their negative energy elsewhere.” Having a guy who will stand up for you and make it known to the world that he’s in love is always a great thing. Somerhalder didn’t even have to address the haters on social media, so the fact that he did is an indication that he may be a little “whipped.”
7. Justin Bieber
Bieber is known for his bad behavior—almost as much as his musical talent. However, his love for actress and singer Selena Gomez, has been unwavering, even though the two have been in an on-again, off-again relationship for years. The two have even dated other people, but Justin says that he wants to eventually marry Gomez one day. Bieber even took to social media to tell his fans that he’s sick of them talking badly about the woman he loves. Justin admits that while he and Selena “argue and fight like every other couple,” they “relate with one another on a different level.” Bieber also made it clear that he’s not sure what the future holds for their relationship, but he still doesn’t want people criticizing the love of his life.
Rapper Tyga went quite some time denying that he was dating Kylie Jenner. After all, he was 26 and she was just 17 when the two “fell in love.” Tyga has also stated that he wants to marry Kylie one day. There have been reports that the two have broken up, gotten back together, and had problems in their relationship, but Tyga continues to defend his girl no matter what. Some say he’s just using Kylie to be connected to the Kardashian empire, and if so, he sure is playing the part. Tyga even told a “social media hater” that she was ugly, both physically and in her soul, for speaking ill of Kylie and their relationship. Seems like pretty standard “whipped” behavior.
5. Brad Pitt
Handsome actor Brad Pitt has been hopelessly in love with Angelina Jolie for years. Fortunately, she feels the same way. Pitt has proven to be a constant source of support for Jolie, especially when she was having serious health issues and decided to have a double mastectomy in order to avoid breast cancer. It was also reported that Jolie had some complications during pregnancy, and Brad made it clear that he was going to be by her side no matter what. The couple had a long engagement, and already had several children (both biological and adopted) before getting married. Pitt stated that he didn’t know how much marrying Jolie would impact the children, and was even more willing to make Angelina his wife because of the kids.
4. Terry Crews
Actor, Old Spice spokesperson and former athlete Terry Crews, has been very vocal about his wife, singer and actress Rebecca Crews. When the family had a reality show, he was sure to tell the world how beautiful he thought his wife was, and made it clear that he appreciated her patience with him. Recently, the couple went through a 90-day no-sex challenge, which pretty much proves that Terry is voluntarily “whipped.” Crews revealed in his recent book that he and his wife have had some serious marital issues in the past, but that he is happier than ever to have her by his side.
3. Hugh Jackman
Australian actor and singer Hugh Jackman is often considered one of Hollywood’s hottest men, and millions of women would love to have him as a husband. However, when he met his wife, Deborra-Lee Furness, he said that he knew “100 percent” that she was the one. The actors met on the set of an Australian TV show in 1995, and had an instant connection. Even though Furness is seven years older than Jackman, Hugh says that he was very confident in the fact that he wanted to live his life with her. He’s even said that Deborra is the “greatest woman” he’s ever met. People have also criticized Furness for not being “pretty enough” to be with someone like Hugh Jackman, but obviously, the couple doesn’t seem to care.
2. Kevin Bacon
In an interview with Esquire, Kevin Bacon told the magazine that he and his wife, fellow actor Kyra Sedgwick, were “very upset and angry” when they found out about Bernie Madoff’s Ponzi scheme (they had invested their money with Madoff). This understandably presented some challenges, especially since they learned of this unfortunate news just after their 20th wedding anniversary. While money problems often break up couples, the two actors remembered that they were very much in love. Bacon also says that they reflected on the fact that they had healthy children, and had been working hard together for years to create a beautiful life. Kevin Bacon also speaks highly of his wife whenever he is asked about her, and he is often seen showering Sedgwick with affection, even after all these years.
1. Barack Obama
Yes, he’s the leader of the free world, but President Obama still has to answer to someone—his wife, First Lady Michelle Obama. He’s never been shy in expressing his love for his wife. Mrs. Obama has even stated that when they met in college, the future president needed a little “polishing” on his road to becoming the man he is today. To show his appreciation for his wife’s patience, he has made public mention of their love several times. During a speech in 2012, President Obama stated: “I wouldn’t be the man I am today without the woman who agreed to marry me 20 years ago…Michelle, I have never loved you more. I have never been prouder to watch the rest of America fall in love with you, too.” Need we say more?
