12 Things You Didn’t Know About Blake Lively

via:

If you know who Blake Lively is, chances are you’re a fan of the series Gossip Girl, where Lively was one of the main characters. You probably also know that Blake dated her co-star Penn Badgley for quite some time before moving on and marrying actor Ryan Reynolds. Of course, you don’t have to know much about Lively to take one look at her and “learn” that she’s pretty stunning.

While many of Blake’s peers are putting lots of their personal details on social media these days, Lively keeps a rather low profile. Those who are interested in her work know that she’s around, but she’s not constantly forcing the public to notice her. In fact, she and Reynolds are pretty private about their marriage and their young daughter James. In fact, when Blake was pregnant, the couple was reluctant to reveal the sex of the baby, and months after James was born, the public still didn’t know her name!

Perhaps being coy is in Blake’s nature. Or, maybe she’s found that she becomes a little more popular whenever the media has to dig a little deeper to find a story about her. Either way, her strategy seems to be working. Here are 12 things you probably didn’t know about Blake Lively.

12. Blake’s Family Is In the Business

Blake Lively’s dad is actor Ernie Lively, and her mom Elaine is a talent manager. So, there’s a good chance Blake was exposed to every aspect of what it means to be an actor at an early age. Her siblings are actors as well. Blake’s brother Eric, is known for his role in The Butterfly Effect 2, and her sister Robyn Lively is well known for her role in Doogie Howser, M.D. and Teen Witch. Clearly, Blake grew up with a lot of talent around her, and couldn’t wait to start exhibiting and enhancing her own acting skills. Unlike many actors, she doesn’t have that whole “struggling in L.A.” story.

11. Blake Started First Grade At the Age of 3

When she was only three years old, Blake Lively went to first grade. Well, kind of. Her brother, who was six at the time, was scared to go to school alone. So, Blake’s mom got her ready for school so she could accompany her big brother. Blake was pretty tall for her age, so they were able to pull it off. The fact that young Lively was willing to calm her big brother down, and wasn’t intimidated around the “big kids” says a lot. Clearly, this characteristic has stuck with Blake, because she takes a pretty fearless approach when it comes to her career choices.

10. Blake Learned Acting From Her Parents—Literally

Blake’s mom and dad taught acting classes when she was a kid. They didn’t want to leave her at home alone while they were teaching (thankfully), and didn’t feel comfortable hiring a babysitter, so they brought her along to acting class with them. Blake said this is where she learned the “drills” that come with acting. Watching older actors learn the process also gave Blake the confidence she needed to launch a successful career of her own. This is likely why Blake is able to tackle several different types of roles. She’s one of the few actresses who can convincingly play much older characters, and it’s probably due to her early and constant exposure to quality acting.

9. Blake Was Pretty Popular In High School

This probably doesn’t come as a huge surprise, since Lively is beautiful and talented. However, kids can be cruel sometimes, so there’s a good chance she could have been bullied for those same positive qualities. Blake was a cheerleader in high school (also not surprising), and was class president. She also performed with the national championship show choir for her school. Clearly, she’s a woman of many talents. This is also evidence that Blake adjusted very well to high school. She was home-schooled earlier in life, but it seems that being around actors and socializing outside of school helped her to adjust well to high school life.

8. Blake Was In High School When She Got Her First Big Role

In 2005, when Blake Lively was a junior in high school, she auditioned to be part of the cast of The Sisterhood Of The Traveling Pants. She landed the role and starred in this coming-of-age drama alongside America Ferrera, Alexis Bledel and Amber Tamblyn. It was her very first movie role and job in general. In the movie, Blake, who plays Bridget, visits Mexico for the summer and starts to learn about the complications that come with love and relationships. The girls also returned for the sequel of the movie. Even though the movie was released over a decade ago, it’s still a go-to for groups of female friends who want to take time from their busy lives and remember their bond.

7. Blake Lively Is Accident-Prone

Most people would be at least a little happy to know that someone as beautiful and talented as Blake Lively is accident-prone. She was teased by the cast and crew on the set of The Sisterhood Of The Traveling Pants 2, because of her clumsiness. She crashed a moped during the first day of shooting, and she later stepped on a sea urchin. People often say that dancers and cheerleaders (and people who are otherwise very coordinated professionally), tend to be clumsy sometimes, especially around people they are comfortable with. So, maybe Lively was just trying to show her cast members how much she loves them. Yeah, we’ll go with that.

6. Blake Felt Awkward Filming Love Scenes

During her time as Serena on Gossip Girl, Blake had to do her “fair” share of love scenes. Most people think that someone as confident and beautiful as Blake would have no problem filming steamy scenes, but that’s not the case. She states that the process was “awful” because people are telling you how to move your hands and there’s complete silence—which makes things even more awkward. It didn’t help that she also had an on-again, off-again relationship with her co-star Penn Badgley. The two had to film love scenes together, and try to make things work off camera for quite some time, and that can be tiring for any couple.

5. Blake Is An Obama Supporter

Blake Lively wasn’t shy about voicing her support for then-presidential hopeful Barack Obama in 2008. She and her former boyfriend, Penn Badgley, even appeared in a commercial supporting the future president. The commercial was sponsored by the Youth Vote program for MoveOn.org. Lively’s involvement in political matters likely inspired other men and women her age to find out more about local and national politicians. After all, when a gorgeous face like Blake’s is encouraging you to vote, you’re much more likely to at least look into it. And let’s face it, Penn’s pretty hot, too. Smart move MoveOn.org, Smart move.

4. Blake Was In a Lonely Island Video

Proving that she has a lighter side and is pretty self-deprecating about being viewed as sexy, Blake appeared in Lonely Island’s “I Just Had Sex” video. She and fellow hottie Jessica Alba, were the main “video girls” for this “single”, and the song also featured Akon. Obviously Blake is aware of the fact that she’s beautiful (after all, we’re assuming she has mirrors in her home), but she also wants people to know that she’s well rounded and likes to have a good time. Lively was also voted no.4 on the Maxim Hot 100 List that same year. Isn’t that ironic?

3. Blake Got Critical Acclaim For Her Role In The Town

While Blake is often seen playing characters that have a light or alluring quality to them, she showed more of her acting chops in the movie The Town. In this thriller, she starred opposite Ben Affleck, who has more acting experience than her, but it didn’t seem to bother her. She brought a gritty quality to the role that many had never seen from her before, and the movie got her critical and national acclaim. Once again, it looks like those acting classes she was forced to attend as a child are really paying off. We’re sure her parents couldn’t be prouder.

2. Blake Is A Foodie

It may be hard to believe, but the svelte Blake Lively loves food. And by “love”, we mean she actually enjoys eating. Lively actually likes eating cookies for breakfast, and her favorites come from Tate’s Bake Shop. She has expressed several times that she’d love to get into the culinary business and become a lifestyle and hosting expert. Clearly, she’d be viewed as a young Martha Stewart. However, the real Martha Stewart didn’t seem too happy with that, and commented that perhaps Blake should just stick to acting. Ouch. At any rate, Blake loves trying new recipes, eating at new restaurants, and hosting dinners for her family and friends. After all, Martha Stewart isn’t the only person in the world who can do those things.

1. Blake Is Officially A Fashion Designer

shutterstock_74404951

Lively has been interested in fashion for quite some time, and now she’s actually a designer. She expressed to Mare Claire that she even has outfits that are specific to different parts of the world. For instance, she owns an ostrich feather skirt that she’d readily wear in Paris, but wouldn’t think about donning it in New York. Lively has been teaming up with Sam & Lavi to create some pretty fashionable pieces, like jumpsuits and skirts. She also worked on her first dress as part of a capsule collection for Amour Vert x Preserve.us. As opposed to some clothing pieces that people buy simply because a celebrity’s name is attached to it, the pieces Lively collaborated on are visually appealing and made with precision. Is there anything this woman can’t do?
