What is your favorite television show of all time? Many may pick a classic television show that they have seen over and over again but just never gets old. My girlfriend has literally worn through her copies of the Friends DVD series, whereas in contrast I’ve seen Seinfeld more times than I can count.
There is a tremendous amount of work that goes into making any television show, let alone one that has commercial success. So when the studios have a winner on their hands, you better believe they are not afraid to pony up some serious cash to keep their stars around.
This list will also not only highlight who out of your favorite sitcom stars brought in the most dough, but how the rest of the cast is holding up. A breakdown of the net worths of the primary cast is included for most of your favorite shows, including but not limited to: Seinfeld, Friends, The Big Bang Theory, How I Met Your Mother and The Office.
It’ll also include some twists and turns, like finding out just how much you would have been paid to pour coffee at Central Perk, or just how much money Jerry Seinfeld is really worth (spoiler alert: It’s over $500 million). No matter what show was in your mind when you clicked this list, there should be something in here for everyone!
12. Jack Gleeson – Net Worth: $8 Million
I’ll be straight-up, Game of Thrones is hardly a ‘sitcom’, but it is one of the best shows of all time so you better believe it’s going to get thrown in here. You can rest easy that at the very least Jack Gleeson he got paid pretty handsomely to play as detestable a character as King Joffrey! Gleeson‘s $8 million, is 5 more than powerhouse Emilia Clarke has racked in over her career thus far. Perhaps this is why Gleeson was able to comfortably say that he wanted to take a step away from acting for a while. That and, you know, he’s still only 23 years old! Plenty of time for him to save his money until he decides to come back and be unbearable all over again.
11. Julia Louis-Dreyfus – Net Worth: $200 Million
Julia is a tremendous actress who has found success in a variety of television shows. While Seinfeld is her biggest claim to fame, The Old Adventures Of New Christine, which Julia starred in, ran for 88 episodes. That, combined with wise investing and other television and film appearances have led Julia to having a net worth of $200 million. There is no way that she holds a candle to Jerry though, whose net worth will get a special mention below. Jason Alexander and Michael Richards have both been less busy (at least in comparison) since Seinfeld, but both have respectable net worths: Alexander is worth $50 million, and Richards is worth $45 million.
There is no doubt that Julia has deserved every penny that she earned, but you may also not know how rich her family is! Her Father, William Louis-Dreyfus is the chairman of Louis Dreyfus Energy Services and has a net worth of $3.4 billion.
10. Jennifer Aniston – Net Worth: $150 Million
When it comes to thinking of some of the most successful sitcoms of all time, you aren’t going to be able to get far before thinking of Friends. While all of the stars are doing quite well for themselves, there is a clear breadwinner in the group! Aniston is currently valued at $150 million, perhaps partially due to the various beauty products that she endorses such as Aveeno. On top of that, Aniston has had the most successful film career out of any of the Friends, especially when she gets to explore her versatility, such as in Horrible Bosses (though she has several flops as well!) If you are curious, Schwimmer is valued at $80 million, Cox at $75 million, Perry $70 Million, and Le Blanc and Kudrow round out the group at $60 million each.
9. BJ Novak – Net Worth: $18 Million
Ryan appeared in 168 out of the 188 episodes of The Office, but it is his presence behind the camera as well that helped him develop a net worth of $18 million. On top of acting, B.J. was one of the key writers and executive producer on the show. B.J has also tried his hand at directing. Perhaps in ‘Ryan Howard’ fashion, B.J. came out with an app in October 2015, called the “List App” and has also been available on Androids since May 2016. There is no telling if this is going to have a huge impact on his net worth, but at least when you have money you get to take little risks like this.
8. Dan Castellaneta – Net Worth: $60 million
When it comes to people that shows would not be able to exist without, Dan Castellaneta should be pretty high up on that list. Not only is he the voice of Homer Simpson, but he also voices Willie, Krusty, Barney and countless others for the show. As a result, and after 590+ episodes, he was able to build a net worth of $60 million! On top of working on The Simpsons, Dan has appeared in several outstanding animated shows including, but definitely not limited to, Futurama, Darkwing Duck, and Earthworm Jim.
7. Ashton Kutcher – Net Worth: $140 Million
Ashton Kutcher is a fun addition to the list because he’s been in two of the more long-lasting sitcoms out there: That 70s Show and Two and a Half Men. Whether you liked the shows or not, there is no doubt that Kutcher did quite well for himself. When he took over from Charlie on Two and a Half Men, he was raking in $750,000 per episode. On top of that, Kutcher has made several smart investments with his money that have allowed it to grow at a steady rate. Given that he is raising a family with Mila Kunis (who is no slouch at $30 million!), I am sure they’re feeling quite comfortable about their financial future.
6. Kaley Cuoco – Net Worth: $51 Million
Kaley is not only incredibly talented, but also beautiful, which leads to different sponsorship deals or modelling gigs that may not be offered to her coworkers. Yet you may still be stunned to learn that Kaley’s net worth of $51 million, is more then Jim Parsons and Johnny Galecki make – combined! Granted they’re no slouches at $28 million, and $17 million, but that’s still no 51! The primary cast recently received $1 million per episode, so at the very least you know that none of them are going to be hurting for cash anytime soon!
5. Ariel Winter – Net Worth: $7 Million
Ariel Winter is one of the most talked about celebrities in society. Largely due to the fact that she started out on Modern Family in 2009 when she was 11 years old, and is very quickly and evidently turning into one of the bigger ‘sex symbols’ to a new generation. Given that Winter is still only 18 years old, you can imagine her popularity is only going to grow in the next few years. Even if it didn’t, Winter hardly has to struggle for money. The star is worth $7 million so far, and with fashion or beauty deals down the line, you can imagine she definitely has a bright future ahead.
4. Cobie Smulders – Net Worth: $18 Million
I’ll be honest, when it comes to How I Met Your Mother, the only character I really loved was Marshall. Jason Segel is a tremendous actor, well deserving of the $15 million that he is reportedly worth. Though I was shocked when I also found out that he had the lowest net worth of anyone in the primary cast.
In comparison, I was not such a fan of Robin, but that hasn’t stopped Cobie from exploding, earning a net worth of $18 million. Given that she’s had a role in the Avengers franchise, it should not be shocking to know that Cobie is living comfortably. Alyson Hannigan, who had previously found success with Buffy and the American Pie franchise, also has a net worth of $18 million. For the rest of the cast, Neil Patrick Harris and Josh Radnor both have net worths of $16 million.
3. Jerry Seinfeld – Net Worth: $860 Million
You would not be alone if you thought that Seinfeld is the greatest sitcom of all time. The show helped introduce several phrases into our everyday jargon, and was one of the most successful shows of all time, running for 9 seasons. The popularity had gotten so large, that Jerry Seinfeld was reportedly offered $100 million to make a 10th season of the show. Yet as you know, nobody from the primary cast is hurting for cash, least of all Seinfeld himself, who is worth $860 million. Given his role in creating the franchise and his stand-up career, on top of the various projects that he involved himself in, such as The Bee Movie, the real question is when is he going to hit $1 billion?
2. Drew Carey – Net Worth: $165 Million
When it comes to Drew, I suppose you could say the price is always right! Drew has been hosting The Price Is Right since 2007. The following year, Drew was worth $12 million. This is definitely income that adds up overtime, especially when you consider that The Drew Carey Show ran for 233 episodes (and he was a pretty big part of that show). On top of this, Drew has hosted Whose Line is it Anyway, and had success as a writer and a stand-up comedian. When you look at all the avenues that Drew has succeeded in, perhaps you won’t be too shocked to know that he is worth $165 million!
1. James Michael Tyler – Net Worth: $500,000
Wait, what? That’s right, Gunther, Mr. Central Perk himself, has a net worth of $500,000 that he earned serving fake coffee. Sure, the ‘stars of the show’ got significantly more, but that’s still a pretty solid payday! Despite not always having a speaking role, Gunther appeared in 148 out of the 236 episodes, making him the most frequent guest star. Outside of Friends, he honestly hasn’t done a ton, although he did appear in the film 50/50 in 2011. Due to the amount that his character appears, Gunther receives smaller increments of money when the show re-airs (which happens all the time).
