Some celebrities are pretty well known for being horrible people. There are some famous people who seem funny, friendly and upbeat when you see them on the movie screen or in music videos. However, those who work with the star, or even some fans, report that these celebs are cold, rude and demanding. This can be pretty disappointing for a person who has admired the celebrity’s work, only to find that they’re not actually a good person.
On the other hand, there are also stars who are actually really nice, even though the media has painted them in a rather negative light. This could be a bit of a publicity stunt, since celebrities who are portrayed as entitled and demanding usually get lots of media attention. The general public love to have their say about celebrities who don’t know how to treat people. In today’s world of social media, most people don’t hold their tongue (or fingers) when they want to express their disappointment or disgust for a celebrity with a bad attitude. It’s refreshing to know that even though these celebrities have a ton of money and fame, they still haven’t forgotten how to treat people.
12. Russell Crowe
It’s no secret that actor Russell Crowe has given people ample reason to think he’s not a nice guy. One quick Internet search will show you that Crowe has been known to lose his temper in public places. South Park even made an episode about Russell Crowe’s “talent” for starting fights. He even threw a tantrum and stormed out of the Golden Globes when the awards show didn’t go the way he’d hoped. However, there are also public statements from Crowe’s record company for his band 30 Odd Foot of Grunts that reveal that he’s good-natured and polite. His friend Jane Fonda, also says that he’s intelligent, thoughtful and friendly. Russell Crowe even remains friendly with his ex-wife. They separated after nine years of marriage, and still speak fondly of one another.
11. Anne Hathaway
Actress and singer Anne Hathaway is so hated that the people who don’t like her are called “Hathahaters.” She isn’t really in the spotlight for doing anything extremely terrible, yet people always find a reason not to like her. Hathaway seems friendly and sweet, and this, along with her beauty and talent, likely makes people jealous of her. People say that she tries too hard or isn’t authentic, but how can you be that mad at someone who is so nice? It almost feels like all her haters are still stuck in high school mentally, and get lots of satisfaction from teasing the “good girl.”
10. Renee Zellweger
Renee Zellweger has gotten a lot of negative attention over the years, mostly from people who have decided to have a negative opinion about her. She hasn’t been in the news for being rude to fans, or for being difficult to work with on set. People often call her “lemon face” since it always looks like she’s just eaten something sour, but that’s not her fault. Zellweger is a Golden Globe and Oscar-nominated actress, but people still criticize her ability to portray characters well. Perhaps lots of women can’t stand her because she talked about how hard it was for her to gain weight when she was preparing for the starring role in Bridget Jones Diary. Again, that’s not really her fault. She didn’t exactly increase in popularity when she married Kenny Chesney and the marriage was annulled months later. However, what happened between the two of them really isn’t the public’s business, so it’s not really fair to judge her character based on this incident.
9. Lea Michele
Lea Michele, who is most famous for her starring role on the show Glee, is likely hated because she doesn’t mind showing that she likes attention. She seems eager to please and is very comfortable being in the spotlight. Yes, this can be annoying, but it doesn’t exactly make her a bad person. People who follow Michele’s career, mostly for the purpose of criticizing her, state that they hate the way her face looks when she sings. She’s often accused of trying too hard in every way, and can sometimes wear unnecessarily revealing outfits on the red carpet to show people that she has an “edge.”
8. Tori Spelling
Lena Dunham and the friends of her that make up the cast of Girls are likely in their prominent positions because of nepotism. However, Dunham isn’t the first woman to benefit from having a rich and famous family member. Tori Spelling is actually the poster child for nepotism, which is a large part of the reason she starred in Beverly Hills, 90210, a show her late father, Aaron Spelling, created. Of course, people hate her just because she had some advantages in life. However, Tori, who has had a series of reality shows and written a few books, has never been in the media for being mean to fans—or anyone, for that matter.
7. Jennifer Lawrence
Jennifer Lawrence is one of the most sought-after actresses in Hollywood these days. So naturally, some people don’t like her because she’s talented and lots of directors want to work with her. Lawrence is also somewhat annoying to the public because she keeps emphasizing how “normal” she is. While this is likely her attempt to remain humble amidst all her fame, skeptics are quick to remind her that making millions of dollars and strutting down the red carpet is not normal by any means. The criticism doesn’t seem to bother Jennifer too much, and she’s continuing to achieve success. She’s perhaps best known for her role as Katniss in the Hunger Games movies, and for winning an Oscar for her performance in Silver Linings Playbook.
6. Miley Cyrus
Yes, Miley is a pretty polarizing celebrity these days. She called out Nicki Minaj in an interview before the VMAs, and Minaj didn’t hesitate to address her at the actual awards show, where Miley was the host. The former Hannah Montana star was pretty well-liked, until after the show ended. She started pole dancing at 17 in an attempt to change her image, and parents of her fans were disappointed. Cyrus didn’t (and still doesn’t) seem to mind the criticism, since she’s also been seen wearing next to nothing in public and smoking weed during her concerts. Miley also got a lot of criticism when she got engaged to Liam Hemsworth, since fans of Hemsworth were worried that Cyrus would tarnish his image. The two have been in the news since they ended their engagement, and there have been rumors that they may reconcile. Through all of this, Miley has shown that she has a sweet and caring side, bringing attention to homelessness in America and publicly showing love for her parents.
5. Guiliana Rancic
The entertainment reporter and host for E! has gotten lots of criticism during her career. Some say that she’s way too obsessed with her looks, and had a lot to say when she was looking “too skinny” on the red carpet. Rancic revealed that the medication she was taking following her double mastectomy and cancer diagnosis prevented her from gaining weight, but that didn’t seem to be good enough for some of her haters. Rancic didn’t improve public opinion about herself when she made some controversial comments about Zendaya on an episode of Fashion Police. She has since apologized for the incident, and always seems friendly and engaging during interviews, but some people just aren’t convinced.
4. Kim Kardashian
Everyone remembers that time when Kim Kardashian made a sex tape with her then-boyfriend Ray J, and soon after, became famous. Sure, she doesn’t have a lot to say about global or political issues, but that doesn’t mean she’s not a nice person. When Kardashian married Kris Humphries in 2011, and stayed married for only a few months before filing for divorce, some people thought this was a huge PR scam, and it sure did look like it. However, she’s never been known to be difficult in the set of photoshoots or to treat the people who work for her in an unkind way (her family members don’t count). It’s highly likely that most of the people who “hate” Kim Kardashian are actually jealous of her.
The band Nickelback hasn’t gotten critical acclaim and some people don’t think they’re all that good. However, Nickelback has sold millions of albums and are well-known in the music world. There are still some pretty serious haters out there that have directed their attention toward the band, even though they seem to be really nice people. This has become such as issue that NPR has even released an article about it. Further analysis indicates that the hate for Nickelback may come from people who are loyal to other bands, and that some individuals are just tired of seeing Nickelback everywhere. Still, that’s no reason to hate a few guys who just want to make music.
2. Kristen Stewart
Kristen Stewart is hated because it seems like she has a terrible attitude. Many fans of the Twilight movie franchise don’t like her because she got to portray Robert Pattinson’s girlfriend on screen and in real life. She achieved a massive amount of fame when she was only 18, which can be overwhelming for anyone. Sure, she’s kind of awkward during interviews, but she’s not rude or deliberately unpleasant. For the most part, she’s just a young person trying to get used to all the attention she’s getting for doing something she loves.
1. Kanye West
Oh, Kanye. He’s gotten more than his fair share of criticism from the media and the general public. When he interrupted Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech in 2009 at the Video Music Awards, most people pegged him as being rude and ill-mannered. Perhaps the real issue is that West doesn’t have a filter. He says what’s on his mind, but that doesn’t mean he’s a bad guy. Yes, he’s pretty much stated in interviews that he’s the best human being ever, but if you’re not your own cheerleader, you can’t expect anyone else to be, right? Kanye West is basically criticized for being confident, and there’s really nothing wrong with that. The rapper and husband of Kim Kardashian is also said to be very sweet and genuine at times, and it was said that he was humbled and shy to meet celebrities like Michael Jackson and Steve Wozniak.
