In the last five or six years, it has become completely normal for celebrities to take shots at Kim Kardashian and the entire Kardashian clan. Kim K is probably a really nice and sweet person, but when you are a reality TV star and your entire life is constantly taped for people to watch, it’s easy to see how she becomes an accessible target for almost anyone. It also seems that the one aspect that really gets people ticked is that she’s popular and exceedingly wealthy for no particular reason at all. She’s not a talented singer, actress nor entertainer; it seems all she does is sell her good looks and rich girl image to make herself richer and richer each year. And then there is also the sex tape she was involved in at the beginning of her career that still annoys people to this day. In the following piece, we take a look at 12 celebs who have thrown shade at Kim K mostly for the plastic celebrity culture she represents. You’ll be surprised, there’s a wide array of personalities on this list. Read on below:
Jeremy Renner has been a trending topic these last few days for his risqué exchange with Jennifer Lopez at the 2015 Golden Globe awards. However the A-list action star is no stranger to being in the limelight for saying exactly what he wants. In 2012, during an interview with the UK’s Guardian, this is what he had to say when the Kardashians were brought up: “Oh all those ridiculous people with zero talent who spend their lives making sure everyone knows their name. Those stupid, stupid people.” Wow pretty harsh words.
The 43-yr-old actor Jon Hamm is definitely one of the elite leading men in Hollywood today. His AMC show Mad Men has been on air since 2007, and it’s finally entering its last season in 2015. Throughout his career, he has been able to make some really solid career choices and he’s one of those actors who’s all about the art and craftsmanship of being a true actor. Perhaps that’s why he slammed Kim Kardashian when he was talking about celebrity culture to Elle UK in 2012. This is what he said: “Whether it’s Paris Hilton or Kim Kardashian or whoever, stupidity is certainly celebrated. Being a f*cking idiot is a valuable commodity in this culture because you’re rewarded significantly.” He even added this, “Incuriousness has become cool … It’s celebrated. It doesn’t make sense to me.”
What is it about Kim Kardashian and the entire Kardashian clan that brings out the fangs in so many celebrities? Michael Bublé is one of the nicest guys around – and he’s a jazz crooner, but even he took a swipe at Kim K in 2011. He was performing at a live show and he decided to trick the audience by announcing, “Please welcome Kim Kardashian to the stage.” The crowd assembled was obviously surprised and let out some audible gasps. He then continued, “Nah just f***ing with you! That bit*h isn’t coming to my stage.”
The actor Jonah Hill is one of Hollywood’s leading funny guys but he also has some serious acting chops as well. If you haven’t seen his performance in The Wolf of Wall Street, it should certainly be on your to-do list. He’s also an actor that isn’t afraid to let his feelings be known. In 2011, after the Kim K and Kris Humphries marriage debacle, this is what he had to say. “The fact that the Kardashians could be more popular than a show like Mad Men is disgusting. It’s a super disgusting part of our culture, but I still find it funny to make a joke about it.”
Charlie Sheen is one of those rare characters in Hollywood. He really doesn’t care at all about what anyone else thinks of him. He’s rich enough to not work again till the day he dies and he doesn’t bite his tongue for anyone. Earlier this January, he let Kim Kardashian have it on social media because someone apparently told him that Kim refused to sign an autograph for one of her young fans. He lashed out at her saying, “You are lucky that ANYONE cares about you and your gross and giggly bag of funk you dare call an ass.” He added that, “Your public loves u. give something back or go f yourself.” He then finished by saying, “My apologies to your hubby, great guy I’m sure, I hope his vision returns one day.”
Daniel Craig is known for being the debonair action star helming the popular James Bond franchise for the last couple of years. He’s married to Rachel Weisz and he’s another actor who has serious problems with Kim K and the entire Kardashian clan. This is what he had to say to GQ in January 2012 about their reality TV based empire: “Look at the Kardashians, they’re worth millions. I don’t think they were that badly off to begin with but now look at them. He added, “You see that and you think “what do you mean all I have to do is behave like a f***ing idiot on television and then you’ll pay me millions.” Seems like he really feels strongly about this particular issue.
Katy Perry is one of the most popular stars on the global pop scene right now. She even scored the amazing gig of playing the halftime show during the upcoming NFL Super Bowl. But she got a couple of jabs in at Kim Kardashian in 2014 when she was interviewed for Rolling Stone magazine. She was answering a question about the criticism she faced for having big-booty mummies dancing on her tour. This is what she said: “As far as the mummy thing, I based it on plastic surgery. Look at someone like Kim Kardashian or Ice-T’s wife, Coco. Those girls aren’t African American. But it’s actually a representation of our culture wanting to be plastic and that’s why there’s bandages and it’s mummies.” Yet another celebrity calling Kim a plastic, fake personality.
In 2014, Anna Wintour, the head doyenne at Vogue did something that most of her readers thought was downright blasphemy. She put Kanye West and Kim Kardashian on the cover of the magazine, and the social media world wasn’t happy with it all. They probably did it to move copies of their publication, but to Vogue’s loyal readers, they thought that Wintour was selling out. This is how she explained her decision. “I think if we just remain deeply tasteful and just put deeply tasteful people on the cover, it would be a rather boring magazine.” Is she implying that Kanye and Kim aren’t deeply tasteful? Sounds like shade to us, but you be the judge.
Seth Macfarlane, the funny man behind the shows Family Guy and American Dad was chosen to host the Oscar Awards in 2013. In his opening monologue, he threw shade on a whole bunch of celebs and the Kardashians weren’t spared. He was talking about the Ben Affleck movie Argo, and he said that he saw so much facial hair on Ben Affleck that he thought the Kardashians had made it into the movie. Zing! That one hurts.
One of the most talked about celebrity events of 2014 was Kim K appearing butt naked on the cover of Paper magazine showing her large, greased-up derriere. We can all understand why a magazine would put that on their cover – they are trying to sell issues of course. But why would Kim do that? It probably gets to a point when too much popularity is never enough – you always need more. Glee star Naya Rivera wasn’t too pleased with the cover and she took to Twitter and tweeted: “I normally don’t. But … you’re someone’s mother…” She does have a point though. Little North West is going to have a lot to discover about her mom when she gets older.
Reese Witherspoon is known as one of America’s sweethearts. She always has such a bubbly and lovable character, and there’s always an ear-to-ear smile across her face. But even this sweetheart had some menacing words for Kim Kardashian. She was accepting an award at the 2011 MTV Movie Awards and this is what she said in her acceptance speech: “I get it, girls, that it’s cool to be a bad girl, but it is possible to make it in Hollywood without doing a reality show. When I came up in the business, if you made a sex tape, you were embarrassed and you hid it in your bed.” She was obviously taking a swipe at Kim K in a not so direct manner.
It’s different when regular celebs dis you, because you never know what kind of petty angle or jealousy-fueled insecurity they might be working with. However, when the President of the United States takes a jab at you, that probably really stings. But Kim K knows exactly how that feels. In 2013, Barack Obama said the following about both Kim and Kanye in an interview with Amazon: “We weren’t exposed to things we didn’t have in the same way kids these days are … Kids weren’t monitoring every day what Kim Kardashian was wearing, or where Kanye West was going on vacation, and thinking that somehow that was the mark of success.” He didn’t mince his words at all and delivered his message loud and clear.
