Most celebrities would like to keep at least one part of their lives hidden from the public. While it is their job to keep up a certain public persona, and to be able to relate to their fans by sometimes telling personal stories, no one wants to be scrutinized all the time.
There’s also the long-standing stigma of Hollywood relationships and marriages not lasting very long (we’re looking at you, Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries). That’s one reason why some famous people choose not to talk about their love lives in interviews. Of course, that doesn’t always stop entertainment reports and the general public from finding out about some of Hollywood’s most “top secret” marriages. This could be somewhat flattering, since it is an indication that there are some celebrities that fans are truly obsessed with. Of course, this can also be extremely irritating, especially when you just want a little privacy.
Believe it or not, there are some celebrities who actually don’t want the public to know every single detail of their lives, even if it means getting less publicity sometimes. Here are 12 famous people who got married without us knowing.
12. Lisa Bonet and Jason Momoa
After leaving A Different World and The Cosby Show, we didn’t hear much from Lisa Bonet. She shows up every now and again to look stunning in modeling ads with her actress/singer daughter Zoe (whose father is Lenny Kravitz), but other than that, Bonet has been under the radar. A few years ago, Bonet tied the knot with Game of Thrones actor Jason Momoa—but we’ve only found out about this recently. The pair became husband and wife in 2007, and have two children together. Zoe Kravitz has admitted that it took her a while to get used to not being the only child, but now she loves her younger siblings. Bonet’s ex-husband Lenny Kravitz is often seen on family outings with Zoe, Lisa, Jason and the kids as well. Looks like they’re all one big happy family.
11. Carrie Preston and Michael Emerson
Michael Emerson is perhaps best known as the super creepy guy from Lost. Carrie Preston is well known for her role on the hit series True Blood. The pair have been married since 1998, but it seems like their union is still new information. Preston states that after just a month of knowing Michael, she called her mom and told her that she’d met the man she was going to marry. The two actors met when they appeared in the Alabama Shakespeare Festival’s production of Hamlet. They also appeared together in Person Of Interest, in which they played lovers. The couple don’t have any children, but they count their adopted dog as their baby.
10. Hank Azaria and Helen Hunt
Famed voice actor Hank Azaria and movie star Helen Hunt (who is also still known for her long-running role in Mad About You), were once husband and wife. They were only married for a year (from 1999 to 2000), which is probably why most people didn’t even know they were a couple. Both actors appeared on the sitcom Friends in 1994, though they weren’t in the same episode. Azaria went on to marry Katie Wright. Apparently the two are still together, but it’s not clear when they tied the knot.
9. Mario Lopez and Ali Landry
While there has been some dispute about whether the two actually got married, actor and entertainment report Mario Lopez and actress/model/dancer Ali Landry, were actually husband and wife for a grand total of two weeks. Landry was Miss Louisiana and Miss USA and 1996, and Lopez is still known for his role as A.C. Slater on Saved By The Bell. Apparently, Lopez couldn’t manage to stay faithful to Landry while the two were engaged, and cheated on her the day before their nuptials at his bachelor party. He also had an affair after the two were married, so Ali decided to have the marriage annulled. Both have moved on to new marriages.
8. Tom Cruise and Mimi Rogers
Most people know that Tom Cruise was married to Nicole Kidman, then later moved on to take Katie Holmes as his bride. Both of these marriages have since ended in divorce. But before these lovely ladies were Mrs. Tom Cruise, the actor was married to Mimi Rogers from 1987 to 1990. The two had a very private ceremony, and apparently, even Cruise’s publicist didn’t know about it. Cruise is one of the most famous actors in Hollywood, but Rogers’ resume is pretty impressive as well. She’s been acting for over 20 years, and has appeared in more than 50 movies. Rogers is also considerably older than Tom, which in hindsight, could have led to the dissolution of their marriage. Some also argue that Scientology was the reason for the split.
7. Zooey Deschanel and Jacob Pechenik
Actress and singer Zooey Deschanel and producer Jacob Pechenik, tied the knot secretly in August of 2015. In January of the same year, Zooey also announced that she was pregnant. She gave birth to a baby girl, and it seems like the first-time parents are very happy. Deschanel currently stars on the Fox series New Girl, and is also known for her roles in movies like Elf, Almost Famous, Failure to Launch and Rock the Kasbah. Her husband Jacob is known for his production work on films such as Jobs, Before Midnight, The Immigrant and The Skeleton Twins. Zooey was married once before to musician Ben Gibbard (which was also pretty secret), so maybe that’s why she wanted to keep this marriage private.
6. Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Tasha McCauley
Joseph Gordon-Levitt has appeared in a few movies, including Don Jon, since his days as a child actor. However, to many, he’ll always be known as the youngest member of the Third Rock From the Sun cast. In December of 2014, Levitt and his girlfriend, Fellow Robots CEO Tasha McCauley, exchanged vows in a private ceremony in their home. Joseph is known for not speaking much about his personal life, and we’re guessing his new wife feels the same way, because the couple seem perfectly fine not announcing their every move to the public. Levitt and McCauley also recently welcomed a baby boy.
5. Zoe Saldana and Marco Perego
After a very public on-again, off-again relationship with Bradley Cooper, actress Zoe Saldana decided to keep her next romance a secret. Her wedding to boyfriend Marco Perego definitely went under the radar for a while, and a source has confirmed that the ceremony was very small, but beautiful and romantic. It also comes as a surprise to many fans that Zoe and Marco have known each other for quite some time, even though their courtship and marriage happened pretty quickly. Now that they’re husband and wife, they still want to keep their relationship private, and are rarely seen in photographs together. Zoe also declined to discuss her pregnancy for quite some time, until it was impossible to hide. The couple is now raising twin boys.
4. Kerry Washington and Nnamdi Asomugha
Kerry Washington is another celebrity who rarely speaks out her private life. So, it was no big shock when she wed her football player husband, and the public didn’t know about it for a while. The two got married in June of 2013 in a private ceremony in Idaho. Kerry and Nnamdi were dating for about a year before they decided to take the ultimate step in their relationship, and not many people even knew that they were romantically involved. Since they are rarely seen together, there have been rumors that they are divorcing, but of course, this has not been confirmed by Kerry or Nnamdi. The pair also have a daughter together.
3. Naya Rivera and Ryan Dorsey
In July of 2014, Glee star Naya Rivera and her musician husband Ryan Dorsey, tied the knot. This came as a surprise to many, since Rivera was engaged to rapper Big Sean not too long before her marriage to Dorsey. In an interview with People magazine, the couple stated that “true love always prevails.” This may be an indication that Rivera wasn’t really in love with Big Sean, and some say that Dorsey and Rivera dated in the past. Even though the couple’s comments were hurtful, they were definitely classier than Big Sean’s song “IDFWU,” which talked about how much he “didn’t care” what his ex was doing with her life. Rivera and Dorsey welcomed a son in September 2015.
2. Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis
It was well known that actors Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher have been engaged since 2014 (they’ve been a couple since 2011), but they definitely kept the public guessing as to when they’d actually become husband and wife. During the 4th of July weekend of 2015, Kunis and Kutcher finally made the leap into married life. They probably didn’t want a whole lot of publicity surrounding their big day. Mila seems like a pretty private person, and as we know, Ashton has done the whole ‘being married to dark-haired celebrity’ thing. The two have a daughter named Wyatt, who was born in 2014.
1. Cameron Diaz and Benji Madden
The union of movie star and model Cameron Diaz and her rocker husband Benji Madden, was a surprise to many. Diaz once said that she didn’t think she’d get married, and that she didn’t feel that monogamy was possible or natural for humans. But, we’re guessing that’s just something you say when you’re down on your luck in the romance department, and the guys you’ve dated haven’t been faithful. Cameron and Benji only dated for seven months before becoming husband and wife, and had a secret wedding ceremony at their home in Beverly Hills. The couple tried to keep their nuptials private, but when Hollywood A-listers started showing up at their house for the wedding, they pretty much gave their secret away, entertainment reporters couldn’t print the story fast enough.
