You can probably place bets on how long many celebrity marriages and relationships are going to last. Whenever two people that are in the public eye get together, especially, if they announce they are engaged after only just a few short months of dating- it’s a pretty good indication they are headed for Splitsville, when they’ve barely just begun their relationship. With that being said, here are 12 celebrity breakups we all saw coming from miles away. Some of these relationships ended because someone’s heart was in another place, while others ended simply because no relationship could sustain two large egos at once.
12. Nikki Ferrell & Juan Pablo (The Bachelor)
Nikki Ferrell and Juan Pablo Galavis met on the popular reality show, The Bachelor. Then they did another reality show together, Couples Therapy. If you’re not even married and you need to do a show called Couples Therapy, things are not fairing as well as everyone might have thought. Nikki recently revealed how they broke up,
“We were just going back and forth through texting,” she revealed. “He was questioning the relationship, and I was questioning it back. I sent him a message saying, ‘We should fight for this. We should work this out.’ And he didn’t respond. In hindsight, I probably shouldn’t have done that. I’m a tad bit impulsive.”
No, she’s wrong, she definitely should have done that.
11. Taylor Swift & Everyone She’s Ever Dated
This entire list could consist of everyone Taylor Swift has ever dated. It feels as if she’s had almost as many boyfriends as hit songs, because all of her songs are about her ex-boyfriends. Last Kiss and Forever and Always are about her relationship with Joe Jonas. You Belong With Me is about Lucas Till. Their relationship lasted from March until April 2009. Back To December is about Taylor Lautner. Jake Gyllenhaal inspired the song The Last Time, but that clearly wasn’t the last time Swift would write about a breakup- he also inspired the hit that pretty much describes every relationship she’s ever had, We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together.
10. Charlie Sheen & Brett Rossi
It’s hard to keep track of how many women Charlie Sheen has dated. Hundreds? Thousands? So, why would his relationship with porn star Brett Rossi aka Scottine Ross, be any different? The happy couple was engaged in November 2013. Sheen called it quits in October 2014, which in all fairness, is a really long time for him. Prior to Rossi, he had been married to Donna Peele, Denise Richards and Brooke Mueller. In between marriages, Sheen has dated Bree Olsen, Ginger Lynn, Heather Hunter, Natalie Kenly, Capri Anderson and too many others to name. Was his relationship with Brett going to be any different? Not even tiger blood could hold them together.
9. Chris Brown & Rihanna
Let’s get serious, how could any couple stay together with a court order keeping them apart? In 2009, the couple had a fight so bad; Chris Brown beat Rihanna, resulting in a multitude of facial injuries. As a result, a judge placed a five-year restraining order on Brown, requiring him to stay fifty yards away from Rihanna in public and 10 yards away at events. In 2011, the restraining order was reduced and the two have been on and off again, ever since. But, let’s not kid ourselves, that relationship is just doomed!
8. Miley Cyrus & Liam Hemsworth
Liam Hemsworth and Miley Cyrus dated for over three years and were even engaged at one point. But, Miley later said that they were engaged way too young, which everyone else knew, pretty much the second the couple announced it, “ I don’t think I realized what 19 truly is, and I got engaged at 19, and I definitely wouldn’t change being engaged. It was so fun wearing a fat rock for a few years, but now, I just feel like I can actually be happy. I wait for those moments of silence, when I’m just at my house, by myself.”
Considering they have only had nice things to say about each other in the press, it sounds like Miley realized what we all knew- she had to twerk around for a while and find herself, post Hannah Montana.
7. Kim Kardashian & Kris Humphries
Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries got married for one reason only, to make a giant spectacle of it on their reality show. He was pretty much a not-so-flashy basketball player from Minnesota. While Humphries was still successful in his own right and very easy on the eyes, it’s not so easy to keep up with the Karashians. He wasn’t exactly Kanye West. Seriously, no one could figure out how or why this couple was into each other in the first place. When Kim filed for divorce after just 72 days of marriage, most people probably wondered what took her so long.
6. Michelle Rodriguez & Zac Efron
Michelle Rodriguez and Zac Efron dated briefly during the summer of 2014. There was no way it was going to last because everyone knows that Michelle was always way more into women then men. Her previous relationship was with model Cara Delevigne, and before that, she dated a whole lot of other hot ladies including Kristana Loken and last but not least, pornstar Jesse Jane. After they broke up at the end of the summer, Rodriguez went back to her old flame, Delevigne. At only two months long, the relationship between the two stars was both fast and furious.
5. Mariah Carey & Nick Cannon
Nick Cannon and Mariah Carey confirmed their divorce in October. The once happy couple and parents to twins, Moroccan and Monroe, were married for six years (quite surprising for some). But, their relationship was doomed from the beginning, with a ten-year age difference. Rumors of infidelity plagued their marriage from the beginning. The final straw for Mariah was while performing at a concert in Tokyo, covering Billie Holiday’s song Don’t Explain, the singer changed some of the lyrics to “I know you cheated, mother******.” Contrary to Mariah Carey’s song title, the couple just didn’t belong together. Cannon is currently rumored to be dating model Jasmine Sanders, who looks a whole lot like his ex-wife.
4. Tom Cruise & Katie Holmes
Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes were never ever going to stay together. Why? Scientology. Cruise was a devout Scientologist and Holmes was raised Catholic. She was never on board with his rather controversial Religion. Rumors swirled that Suri would be sent off to Scientology’s secret Sea Organization away from her mother. Ultimately, court documents were leaked which confirmed what we knew all along. When Tom was asked if he believed Katie left him because she felt the need to protect her daughter from Scientology, he answered, “I find those statements offensive. Like with any relationship, there are many different levels to it. You know, I, I find it very offensive. There is no need to protect my daughter from my religion.” Sure there isn’t…
3. Robin Thicke & Paula Patton
At first, it seemed like Robin Thicke and Paula Patton were meant to be together forever, but cheating allegations and Miley Cyrus changed that on a dime. Patton and Thicke married in 2005, and separated in 2014. In a 2011 interview with Essence magazine, Thicke said he credited his music to loving “the same black woman for over 18 years.” But, the 2013 MTV VMAs discredited that when Miley Cyrus twerked all over Thicke on stage. We all knew that twerking wasn’t so innocent and cheating rumors started to fly in about Thicke and slews of other women. While Thicke ultimately begged for Patton to take him back, by October 2014, she filed for divorce.
2. Britney Spears & Whatever His Name Was
We all knew Britney Spears and David Lucado wouldn’t last. Let’s state the obvious, Spears is an insanely rich (and potentially insanely crazy) pop Superstar and Lucado was a Joe-average lawyer from Virginia. While they do share being from the South (Spears is originally from Louisiana), they don’t really share anything else. Spears is into eating chips and David is into chipping golf balls on the links. The relationship lasted 18 months before Spears pulled the plug, after she found out there was a video of him and another women being shopped around to various tabloids. But overall, it doesn’t sound as toxic as most of her relationships…
1. Rihanna & Drake
Drake and Rihanna sound like a perfect match. But, at the end of the day, they just couldn’t get it on with each other. The couple has gotten together and broken up several times since they first started dating in 2011. In May 2014, Drake told Rolling Stone that he and RiRi were just friends, “I mean, I think about it. Like, ‘Man that would be good.’ We have fun together. She’s cool and shit. But we’re just friends. That’s my dog for life.” Maybe she just never got over Chris Brown. Either way, their relationship just never shined bright like a diamond.
