Just look to Instagram to see who the most talked about people are. Instagram is like the new Access Hollywood. Only it’s even more Access Hollywood than Access Hollywood. Because now, you can see what the stars are doing around the clock. And you can see much more than stars running away from cameras, with their faces cloaked in Gucci sweaters terrified of the spotlight. Celebrities today love the camera. They love it so much, they’re willing to show you everything. You can see little moments you would have never gotten to see before, like Taylor Swift lounging in front of a barbecue grill or Kylie Jenner posted up with her high school diploma. It’s all out there people! All you need to do is click the follow button.
So in all honesty, there’s a whole world of celebrity dreamland available for the masses to see. Some pictures stood out more than others. Some pictures were so great I had to put together a list for you. Each picture has its own story. And that’s the great thing about pictures – they speak a thousand words. Each picture, except for the first, has anywhere from 1.5 to over 2.5 million likes. And that’s not counting all the people who didn’t click the “<3,” but liked the picture anyway.
So when you do the math, the top pictures on this list receive a new view every second, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Here are 11 Celebrity Instagram Pictures That Broke The Internet.
11. The First Ever Instagram Picture
It was the first photo ever taken on Instagram. And it was taken by Kevin Systrom – entrepreneur and computer programmer best known as the co-founder and CEO of Instagram. The picture features Kevin and a dog he found in Mexico near a taco stand. The foot was of his girlfriend. At the time, it was a simple test of a filter. Kevin describes the project as an app he was working with “on the side.”
“Had I known it would have been the first photo on Instagram as it is today, I think I would have tried a little harder,” says Systrom. Kevin posted the photo in 2010 and it received over 43,000 likes. In 2013, Forbes listed Systrom in the “Forbes 30 under 30” list, under the Social/Mobile category. Instagram became one of the fastest growing services of all time, reaching 80 million users only two years after its launch.
10. Kim Kardashian In Mexico
Kim Kardashian posted this photo in October, 2013. This was shortly after KimYe’s wedding in Florence, Italy, where Andrea Bocelli treated the two to a serenade. The couple then took several trips around the world. This photo took place on Kanye and Kim’s second honeymoon in Mexico; the first being in Ireland. They were staying with friend Joe Francis in the “Punta Mita villa.”
The couple was also celebrating Kanye’s birthday. Kim reportedly gave Kanye a “man cave;” A luxurious state of the art music studio that is. Kim shot this photo without filters, captioning it “#NoFilter.” In just five hours, the post received almost 400,000 “<3s.” It went on to garner over one million likes. Immediately after Kim posted the picture, Kanye re-tweeted it on his Twitter, saying, “heading home now.”
9. Lady Gaga V Magazine
In 2013, pop star Lady Gaga posed naked for V Magazine. Dutch photographers Van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin first posted the picture, which was an outtake from their cover shoot with Lady Gaga. On Instagram the caption read, “Get ready world for our pics of @ladygaga for @vmagazine !kisses iv #artpop.” A week before, “Burqa,” a new Lady Gaga song, showed up on the Internet.
Around the same time, Lady Gaga announced her ARTPOP album would hit stores soon. A post on her Facebook page read, “The album ARTPOP musically mirrors Gaga’s creative process as she passes through the medium of each artist she collaborates with, scoring a blueprint on her journey. The result, a ‘rage’ of electronic passion and fury, defining each artistic process from beginning to end, ARTPOP could mean anything.” The album debuted at number one on the U.S. Billboard 200 with first week sales hitting 258,000 copies.
8. Selena Gomez Under The Curtains
In March 2014, Selena Gomez posted a picture of herself on Instagram. She appeared to not have any clothes on. The photo had no caption. This was around the same time people knew Selena and Justin were in a relationship. In fact, it could have even been Justin himself who took the photo. In January 2014, Selena spent two weeks at Dawn at the Meadows, a treatment center in Arizona. Her representative stated it was “voluntarily […] but not for substance abuse.”
A month after the picture, there was more news. Selena confirmed that she fired her mother and stepfather as her managers. And it had nothing to do with her mother’s disapproval of her relationship with Justin Bieber. In November 2015, she released a compilation album. This finished her deal with Hollywood Records, allowing her to sign with Interscope Records.
7. Justin Bieber and “Uncle Will”
It was the most liked Instagram photo of 2013, receiving over 1.5 million likes. Justin Bieber and the Smith’s are “totally tight” according to MTV. He and Jaden Smith have sparked a “bromance,” having collaborated on “Happy New Year.” They’ve also done a cover of Frank Ocean’s “Thinkin Bout You.” So it’s only right that Justin and Will Smith started bonding. The photo’s caption read “Me and uncle Will.”
So we can only assume that Bieber was hanging around the Smith house and ran into the dude. Justin has a lot of mentors, like Oprah Winfrey, Drake, Adam Levine, and Mark Wahlberg. But Justin’s “most present mentor” was definitely Will Smith. At the time of the photo, Justin told THR “I’m happy with the man I’m becoming.”
6. Rihanna Wears Prada
Rihanna is one of the most popular celebs on Instagram. This amazing photo was a thank you message to Miuccia Prada, Prada’s chief designer. Prada designed a pair of custom boots for Rihanna. And to show her vast appreciation, she wrote to Miuccia Prada, “Gotcha b*tch tip toeing on my marble flo!!! Sick ass custom Prada boots! Miuccia you RULE!!!”
When talking about Instagram, she told Elle UK, “I Instagram everything about my life. Whether it’s smoking pot, in a strip club, reading a Bible verse – how crazy, I know! – or hanging out with my best friend, who happens to be Chris. Everybody wanted to know what was happening in my life […] Everybody has an opinion about everything. But an opinion is just an opinion…” Although her mom apparently wasn’t so thrilled, Rihanna says, “She went crazy on me, I was like, embarrassed. […] She humbled the f*ck out of me.”
5. Ariana Kissing Miley
Ariana Grande kissed Miley Cyrus at the 2014 MTV VMAs. This was also the same night the Ariana and Big Sean dating rumors were confirmed as they were seen holding hands backstage. Back to the kiss – it confirmed that the two women weren’t feuding. It happened as Ariana headed towards the stage to accept her award for Best Pop Video of the Year. Ariana’s “Problem” was the winning song. Months later, the two performed a cover of Crowded House’s “Don’t Dream It’s Over,” raising awareness for Miley’s Happy Hippie Foundation, which helps homeless and LGBT youths.
Ariana’s relationship with Big Sean ended earlier this year, six or eight months after they started dating. It depends on who you ask. The same night, she opened the MTV VMAs with Nicki Minaj and Jessie J, performing the song “Bang Bang.”
4. KimYe’s Wedding Picture
In only seven months, this picture received over 2.5 million likes. None of this is my fault! Every 7.5 seconds, someone somewhere around the world likes this picture. Also, it was “the most liked photo in 2014.” Until the last three photos on this list, it was also “the most popular photo in Instagram’s history.” Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez came in second with their starry-eyed romance. Ariana Grande and Miley Cyrus came in third. As for 2015, Taylor Swift was the only person able to go toe-to-toe with the Kardashians, who continue to appear as the most important thing of the moment.
3. Taylor and Calvin
This photo garnered over 2.5 million likes on Instagram. Now Taylor Swift and Calvin Harris are one of the most popular celebrity couples in the world. They’re also one of the most powerful. Forbes ranked them as the “highest-paid couple in music,” with joint earnings of over $146 million. Jay Z and Beyoncé came in second place with $110.5 million.
In March 2015, the two started dating. Harris uploaded some photos of Taylor’s cats on to Instagram, shortly after rumors of their romance started flying around. Then a photo showed up of the two in Los Angeles. Then, a photo of the two on a double date with Joe Jonas and Gigi Hadid. And then earlier this year, they went together to the Billboard Music Awards. Then more photos surfaced of them partying it up for the 4th of July. …This last photo seemed to answer all the questions.
2. From Kanye To Taylor
Kanye West and Taylor Swift are friends now. Kanye also announced that he is running for president in 2020. Taylor Swift posted a photo of Kanye’s gift to her on Twitter. So there’s more validation for the two’s friendship. It was a cube of white roses with some flowers mixed in. Appreciatively she wrote, “Awww Kanye sent me the coolest flowers!!” She also included the hashtags #KanTay2020 and #BFFs. So now you know that they are friends. And they’ll be running for president together sometime in the oh so bright future.
Although no one knows how serious this actually is. There’s already campaign merchandise available. You can buy a “Kanye West 2020” pin, or a “Make America Cray Again” hat. And even a “West/Swift” T-shirt. The official Twitter account of the Democratic Party even tweeted about it, saying, “Welcome to the race, Mr. West. Glad to have you.”
1. Kendall Jenner – Most Liked Photo Ever
Kendall Jenner has now surpassed her half-sister Kim Kardashian in Instagram popularity. It’s only natural with her being a member of the Kardashian clan. With the saying “take that KimYe,” this photo became the most liked photo on Instagram ever. The photo had over 2.5 million likes in a course of five weeks.
The fashion model and television personality’s career has taken off ever since her breakout in 2014. She’s part of an emerging fashion movement. They call it “Social Media Modeling” or “the Instagirl era.” In the same month, she walked a fashion show in Antalya, Turkey. According to Kendall, she has no strategy for posting photos on Instagram, saying “I have really stayed true to myself on Instagram […] It’s what I want. I don’t have a strategy, and I don’t have a team doing it for me,[…] I don’t find it to be authentic.”
