It seems that society is quite fascinated with on-screen romances that turn into real-life relationships. Perhaps Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are the most famous celebrities to turn their working relationship into a personal one that the media has been following for years. There are also a number of married couples in the industry, such as Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos, and Duane Martin and Tisha Campbell-Martin, who work together on projects quite often. These couples either play love interests on screen, or portray characters who can’t stand each other. Either way, it’s hilarious to watch and it keeps their fans wanting more.
While some “office” romances turn into lifelong relationships, some co-stars simply have flings with each other that end when their movies or television shows end. Some of these couples date for a while after they are no longer co-stars, but there are times when the relationship doesn’t last.
Spending weeks or months on the set of a movie or television show inevitably gives people time to get to know each other and form attractions to one another. Sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn’t, and sometimes people just want to get into a “temporary situation” with each other. Here are 11 actors who slept with their co-stars.
11. Susan Sarandon
Susan Sarandon has been in the business for decades, so it’s pretty inevitable that she would develop romantic feelings for her co-stars from time to time. Sarandon was romantically linked to David Bowie, and the two began their relationship while filming the movie The Hunger in 1983, which Susan describes as “an interesting time.” She also had a long-term relationship with Tim Robbins, and met him in 1988 when the two were filming Bull Durham together. The two split in 2009, and have two sons together. Sarandon then started dating Jonathan Bricklin the year after her split from Robbins. Bricklin and Sarandon ran the SPiN ping pong lounges as business partners for a few years, but have since split.
Madonna and Warren Beatty starred in the 90s hit Dick Tracy together, and apparently, things got steamy on and off set. Beatty, who has now been married to fellow actor Annette Bening for quite some time (she was also once his co-star) is known for romancing the women he meets on set. Madonna also has a reputation for being pretty alluring, so it’s no wonder that the two hit it off. Madonna moved onto a turbulent relationship with actor Sean Penn, and after their divorce she met and married director Guy Ritchie (they are now divorced as well). Beatty seems to be living a pretty quiet life with his wife these days, while Madonna is still trying to convince the world that she’s the sexiest woman who ever lived.
9. Kristen Bell
Kristen Bell, who rose to fame after the success of the UPN show Veronica Mars and starred in the animated hit Frozen, is currently sleeping with her Samsung commercial co-star. It’s her husband, actor and comedian Dax Shepard. It’s safe to say that they’re bringing in significant sales for the company, since their commercials are so adorable and realistic. Dax is known for his role in the MTV series Punk’d, and for his long-standing role in the drama Parenthood. Bell and Shepard have been together since 2007, and are easily one of the cutest couples in Hollywood. They talk often of their modest upbringings in Michigan, and state that they want to live grounded lives and be known for being good people. The couple have two daughters together.
8. Julia Roberts
When Julia Roberts and Keifer Sutherland teamed up to film the 1990 movie Flatliners, they had more than just a “working relationship.” The two got serious pretty quickly, and even planned to get married in a studio in 1991. However, Roberts ended their engagement when she found out that Sutherland had been spending time with a stripper. Sutherland has since had a reputation for being flirtatious and having a drinking problem. Five years later, Keifer went on to marry Elizabeth Winn, but the two divorced in 2004. Julia Roberts fell in love with director Danny Moder, married him in 2002, and the two have three children together.
7. Will Smith
Remember in Ali, when Jada Pinkett-Smith had a small role as Muhammad Ali’s love interest? The scene was pretty steamy, and fans got a chance to see the real-life couple, both actors, remain professional in their roles while sharing their obvious attraction to each other. Will and Jada have been married since 1997, and rumors about their divorce have been in the media for about that long as well. However, it seems that the two are going strong. It may have something to do with the fact that they already had an established relationship before appearing in Ali together. So technically, Will Smith (who will star in the new movie Concussion, out Christmas Day), slept with his co-star, and it’s working out for him.
6. Kate Hudson
When Kate Hudson and Owen Wilson starred in You, Me and Dupree together, they were also dating in real life. In 2008, there were also reports that the two were going to get married, but that never happened. They dated off and on for about another year after the reports, but ended their relationship for good in 2009. Wilson moved on to relationships with Jade Duell and personal trainer Caroline Lindqvist, and has children with both women. Kate started dating Matt Bellamy after her relationship with Owen, and was engaged to Bellamy, but ended the relationship in 2014. Hudson, who is a mother of two sons, is now believed to be in a “situation-ship” with singer Nick Jonas.
5. Jennifer Aniston
Jennifer Aniston has been said to be one of the most successful actresses in Hollywood. Some of her critics (and fans) also previously pegged her as one of the unluckiest women in love. Some die-hard Aniston supporters are still mourning her divorce from Brad Pitt, even though it happened a decade ago, and Aniston is now married to actor Justin Theroux. However, before her current marriage, Aniston allegedly had a relationship with her The Breakup co-star, Vince Vaughn. Perhaps producers thought the movie would sell better if fans believed that Aniston and Vaughn were an actual couple. We guess it worked—kind of.
4. Gwyneth Paltrow
In the movie Seven, Gwyneth Paltrow’s character ended up with her head in a box. However, in real life, she was in the arms of her co-star, Brad Pitt. The two had a pretty steamy romance in the late 1990s, but obviously moved on to other people. After breaking up with Paltrow, Pitt started dating Jennifer Aniston, and the two were married from 2000-2005. Brad then moved on to Angelina, and the media still hasn’t gotten tired of covering stories about the pair. Gwyneth met and married Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, but the two have since had a “conscious uncoupling” and are friends who raise their children together.
3. Heath Ledger
When Michelle Williams met her Brokeback Mountain co-star Heath Ledger, the two couldn’t deny the attraction they felt for one another. They played a couple in the movie, and this translated into their real lives. Williams and Ledger developed a serious relationship, and spoke very highly of one another in interviews. The pair were together from 2004 to 2007, and had a daughter named Matilda together. Even after the breakup, they remained close. In 2008, Heath Ledger unfortunately passed away. Ledger and Williams’ romance was popular media news for quite some time, and Michelle Williams, along with her friends and family, were devastated as a result of Heath’s passing.
2. Tom Cruise
When Tom Cruise met Nicole Kidman, he was immediately taken with her. Rumor has it that Cruise pulled some strings to make sure Kidman was his co-star in Days of Thunder. The two actors also starred in Eyes Wide Shut together once they became husband and wife, but we’d rather not think about that. Kidman and Cruise were married for 11 years, and adopted two children together. They divorced in 2001, and five years later, Nicole Kidman married country music star Keith Urban. Tom Cruise moved on to Katie Holmes and had a daughter (Suri) with her, but the two have since divorced. Even though Tom and Nicole’s marriage didn’t last, you’ve got to admit that their marriage boosted both of their careers.
1. Tori Spelling
Tori Spelling rose to fame when she played the character Donna on Beverly Hills, 90210, the show her father Aaron Spelling produced. These days, Tori is known for appearing in reality shows with her husband Dean McDermott, as the two work out the issues in their marriage for the world to see. Spelling is also an avid crafter and loves to share her creative and kid-friendly ideas with her social media followers. Tori is now a mother of four, and says she’s happy in her very busy roles as wife and mom. She’s also going to be on the new show Celebrity Lie Detector, which is why she revealed that she slept with two of her 90210 co-stars back in the day. Everyone who is a fan of 90210 pretty much knew that Spelling and Brian Austin Green hooked up off-screen after they developed their on-screen relationship. Apparently, there’s also another former cast member Tori was intimate with, which will be revealed on Celebrity Lie Detector. Perhaps this is her way of trying to get back at Dean for being unfaithful to her.
