10 Times Alec Baldwin’s Shocking Antics Made Us Cringe

Throughout the course of his career, actor Alec Baldwin has made a reputation for himself as being particularly temperamental. His biggest offenders have notoriously been the paparazzi, who have tried to get close to the celebrity to get photos of him, his significant others and his children.

But, it doesn’t stop there. He is known to be incredibly short-fused with people of all professions, and has even been a fan of using social media, particularly Twitter, to express his irate feelings. Alec has kept the world amused – and often perplexed – with everything from his physical actions to his arguably poor word choices.

While there is no denying he is great as a performer, he is often noted as an intimidating person to cross. Though it hasn’t stopped the New York media from trailing him, it has stopped many from being able to look at him as anything but a talented actor who is also a loose cannon.

Here are the 10 times Alec Baldwin’s outbursts and antics made us all cringe:

10. When He Rode His Bike The Wrong Way

Last year two female officers arrested Alec when he was caught riding his bike in the wrong direction in New York City. He was issued two summonses, one for disorderly conduct. The actor allegedly became angry and started yelling at the officers after they asked him for identification. According to the officers, Alec got belligerent and starting yelling profanities. After he was released from custody, Alec tweeted the badge number of the officer he said arrested him and wrote, “photographers outside my home once again terrified my daughter and nearly hit her with a camera. The police did nothing.”

9. When He Hated His Starbucks Service

Using his Twitter handle in 2011, Alec blasted an employee at a New York City Starbucks for providing inadequate service. He tweets, “Starbucks on 93 and B’way. Uptight Queen barista named JAY has an attitude problem.” Rosie Gray of The Village Voice placed a call to the location and learned there was no one named Jay who worked there, but it did not prevent the Internet from feeling completely confused about his odd social media outburst. Later, another barista who was there at the time of Alec’s visit that day took to social media and explained, “I was here when it happened – it was really just him being an asshole. He was very rude and disrespectful and arrogant. He’s probably the rudest guy I’ve ever met. [The barista] didn’t do anything wrong; it was all that dude just being psycho. I saw a thing on ‘E’ a little while ago, and it was talking about how crazy he was. They were right.”

8. When He Called His Daughter A ‘Thoughtless Little Pig’

In 2007, in possibly his most infamous of antics, Alec left an angry voicemail for his then 11-year old daughter Ireland that went public, and seemingly spread like wildfire. His apparent rationale for his outburst was that Ireland hadn’t answered her phone for a planned phone call. The most memorably harsh part of the message was when Alec referred to his daughter as “a rude, thoughtless little pig.” He went on to say she “doesn’t have the brains or the decency as a human being.” He also adds, “You have humiliated me for the last time with this phone.” The voicemail was left amid a custody dispute between Alec and his ex-wife, Kim Basinger.

7. When He First Took Issue With The Paparazzi

Alec’s now on-going issue with the paparazzi dates back many, many years. Back in 1995, when Alec was still married to Kim Basinger, the actor was equally as hot-tempered when it came to the paps. That year he was placed under citizen’s arrest after he allegedly hit a cameraman who was trying to get video of Ireland when she was merely three days old. Ultimately, Alec was forced to pay the photographer $4,500 after he sprayed the photographer’s truck with shaving cream and broke his eyeglasses and nose. Alec sued for invasion of privacy, which he won.

6. When He Got Kicked Off A Flight

In 2011, Alec proved the then-popular game “Words With Friends” was more important than anything else when he refused to turn off his phone on a flight because he was reportedly too engrossed in playing the game. He ignored a flight attendant’s request to power down his phone, and then reportedly stormed off into the airplane bathroom. According to the airline, American Airlines, he slammed the bathroom door so loudly that people became alarmed. He was then removed from the flight. Though he has since apologized, he went on to complain that flying has now become a “Greyhound bus experience.”

5. When He Went After The New York Daily News

In mid-2012, Alec took issue with the New York Daily News, who had sent photographers to his then-fiance’s yoga class. Alec became infuriated, learned the identities of the photographers, and again took to his Twitter account to blast them. He tweeted a photo of the photographers and captioned it: “Here’s the nutty bitch who crashed the yoga class today.” He went on to say of the paper, “Rest in Peace, the New York Daily News, which was once a good newspaper. Now run by the same trash that runs the Post.”

4. When He Physically Attacked A Photographer in NYC

In 2012, Alec allegedly attacked a photographer from New York Daily News who was attempting to take a photo of the actor. The photog – Marcus Santos – later said Alec came at him shoving and punching, “one time, right in the chin.” The photographer also added, “he lunged at me like a raging bull.” After the incident, Alec tweeted that all paparazzi should be “waterboarded.” He also added, “I suppose if the offending paparazzi was wearing a hood, and I shot him, it would all blow over.”

3. When He Got Political On ‘Late Night’

During a 1998 appearance on NBC’s Late Night with Conan O’Brien, Alec – who has been very vocal about how strongly he feels about politics – condemned Republican Rep. Henry Hyde, who was a leader in managing the impeachment of President Bill Clinton. Alec stated his view that in any other country, “we would stone Henry Hyde to death and we [would] go to their homes and we’d kill their wives and children.” He then jumped to his feet shouting, “ What is happening in this country? What is happening? UGHHH UGHHH!!!!”

2. When He Publically Bashed Harvey Weinstein

At a 2012 party at the Cannes Film Festival, Baldwin spread his opinion that movie producer Harvey Weinstein is a “f**king d**chebag.” According to the Hollywood Reporter, Alec told party-goers, “I don’t care who knows. After the success he had at Cannes last year and all the fucking Oscars, he’s still a f**king d**chebag! I can’t believe it.” The cause of his tirade was apparently due to the fact that Harvey decided not to back a documentary Alec was working on.

1. When He Allegedly Lost His MSNBC Show For Anti-Gay Slurs

Alec allegedly lost his show on MSNBC – Up Late with Alec Baldwin – following a scandal surrounding homophobic insults and various outbursts with photographers. The scandal first broke when Alec was videotaped using a homophobic slur directed at a photographer who was waiting to take his picture outside his apartment. According to video footage, it appeared Alec had shouted “c**ksucking fag” at photographers who got near his wife and baby. He later denied the latter part of the slur, insisting it was misheard, though he also later apologized, noting he wasn’t aware that his words were derogatory towards homosexuals. MSNBC and a spokesperson for Alec both insisted the decision to halt the show was mutual, though evidence pointed to the scandal as the reason the network pulled the plug.
