You’ve seen her face everywhere in advertisements and magazines. But who’s the girl behind the bow and arrow?
Jennifer Lawrence is most famous for her role as Mystique in X-Men and as Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games. She is indeed a superb actor and will hopefully remain in the spotlight for many years to come. However, what makes Jennifer Lawrence really great is how she makes a good role model for young girls. She is wonderful at her trade and is beautiful both inside and out. Like Ronda Rousey, she demonstrates that you can be both feminine and tough. Having accomplished so much already in the few years she’s been in show business, the bar is set high for young Jennifer Lawrence.
Of course at the end of the day she is still human and has her funny quirks as well as her fair share of embarrassing moments as well. For example, she tattooed H2O on her hand in order to remind herself that she has to stay hydrated. However, she thought that the 2 had to be higher that the H and the O when in actuality it’s the opposite, the 2 is a subscript. So the tatoo that was supposed to remind her to drink water is now a reminder that maybe she should have taken a chemistry course or at least checked her facts before getting the tattoo.
Curious as to what she’s really like? Read on to find out 10 things you (probably) didn’t know about Jennifer Lawrence.
10. She Could Have Been in Twilight
That is correct, Jennifer Lawrence auditioned for the role of Bella Swan for the Twilight saga. However, Kristen Stewart got the part. How did that even happen?! What was the director thinking?! Imagine how different Twilight would have been if Lawrence had gotten the part? It definitely would have changed the film drastically. Many fans of the Twilight book series were extremely disappointed when Stewart got the part as she did not fit Bella’s description in the books. Bella is supposed to be a regular, everyday school girl, not a zombie that alienates her audience. Lawrence would have probably been a much better fit for the part.
9. She Was A Victim Of 4chan’s Hacking
To the surprise of no one, 4chan has done some pretty terrible things. Among them was their hacking of private pictures of celebrities, which were then distributed throughout the corners of the web. Lawrence was one of the victims. In an interview with Vogue in 2014, she stated “It is not a scandal. It is a sex crime. It is a sexual violation. It’s disgusting. The law needs to be changed, and we need to change”. Well said. Though you may argue that if you’re a celebrity you shouldn’t be sending intimate pictures of yourself or have such pictures on your phone, people should still respect people’s privacy.
8. She Is One Very Serious Honey Boo Boo Fan
You may have heard about Jennifer Lawrence’s small car accident way back in 2012. In an episode of Jay Leno‘s Tonight Show, Lawrence explained that she crashed her car because she thought she saw Honey Boo Boo. She was driving in Georgia and passed a breast cancer parade with people wearing sashes that had the word “boobs” on them. Lawrence mistakenly thought the sashes said “Boo Boo” and so craned her neck searching to see if Honey Boo Boo had made an appearance. The Hunger Games star was so busy looking at who she thought was Honey Boo Boo that she rear-ended the car in front her. When she explained to the other driver how the accident happened, she simply stated “I’m sorry that I hit your family…I thought I saw Honey Boo Boo”.
7. She was Nicknamed Katpiss Neverclean
She was rudely given the nickname Katpiss Neverclean by her co-star Elizabeth Banks. Why would Banks call her that? Lawrence showed up to The Hunger Games set a few times with the same blood and scar makeup she had from the day before. Perhaps she was too tired to wash or figured she would save some time as makeup can take a very long time. Either way, at least it reduced her carbon footprint right? Perhaps her nickname should have been Katniss Eco-Queen.
6. She Has Mad Skills
Lawrence had to learn lots of new skills for her various roles. For The Hunger Games, she had to seriously practice archery. Can you imagine a Katniss Everdeen that can’t shoot an arrow properly? For her role in Winter’s Bone (2010) she actually had to learn how to skin squirrels, chop wood and fight. As previously stated she can also ride wild horses. Jennifer Lawrence: fighting gender stereotypes one squirrel at a time.
5. Second Youngest Recipient of Academy Award
At the age of 22, she became the second youngest recipient of the Best Actress in a Leading Role Oscar. She claimed the title for her performance in Silver Linings Playbook (2012) on February 24th, 2013. Being such a talented actress at such a young age, the world patiently awaits for Lawrence’s next performances. The youngest recipient is Marlee Matlin, who, at the age of 21, won the award for her performance in Children of a Lesser God (1986) on March 30th, 1987.
4. She loves Doritos
Do you love eating Doritos while watching your favorite TV show? Well so does Jennifer Lawrence! Even celebrities have their guilty pleasures. However, Lawrence’s Dorito munching has caused some small problems while on set of American Hustle (2013). She accidentally stained many of her dresses. You can’t really blame her; it is indeed quite difficult to get that annoying cheese powder off of your hands after you’ve eaten Doritos. Dorito eating requires a mandatory hand washing after, and who has time for that? Instead of banning Lawrence from eating one of her favourite treats, the wardrobe department finally fixed the problem by making her identical dresses so she would always have a clean emergency dress to wear.
3. She’s a Natural Blonde
Yes, Jennifer Lawrence is actually a natural blonde. It seems strange seeing her without Katniss’ dark brown hair. Indeed, she had to dye her hair brown for her role in the Hunger Games movies. Interestingly, her co-actor Josh Hutcherson, who played the role of Peeta, is a natural brunette and had to dye his hair blonde for the part. The two also happen to both be Kentucky natives. Incidentally, Jennifer’s hometown, Louisville, greatly impacted her upbringing. Her parents had the space to keep horses but not the money to train them, and so she had to train the horses herself. At least now she knows how to ride wild horses, even if she does have a deformed tailbone because she fell off of one.
2. Ultra generous
Jennifer Lawrence is not only a great actor but also a great philanthropist. Over the years she has supported the following charities: DoSomething.org, Feeding America, the Screen Actors Guild Foundation, The Thirst Project and the World Food Program. She also started the Jennifer Lawrence Foundation which helps fund multiple other charities. Last August she even visited patients at Shriner’s Hospital for Children. With her beauty and philanthropism, Jennifer Lawrence brings to mind a young Audrey Hepburn. Hopefully, she will follow in Hepburn’s footsteps and will keep being generous and charitable throughout her life.
1. She Nearly Turned Down Her Hunger Games Role
What would the Hunger Games be without Jennifer Lawrence, the face of the franchise? It is a reality which very likely could have happened if it was not for Lawrence’s mother. Lawrence was undecided if she wanted the role of Katniss Everdeen. She thought, “Just saying yes to this one thing could completely change my life, and I don’t know if it’s going to be for the better”. Upon hearing this her mother commented “‘You’re being a hypocrite, because you always say you don’t care about the size of the movies…now you have a story you like, and you’re not going to do it because of the size”. When Lawrence did Indie movies and people asked her why she didn’t do a studio movie, she claimed the size of the movie did not matter to her. Though her mother’s words took effect it still took 3 days for Lawrence to reply yes for the role of Katniss.
