10. Kendall Jenner – Itsy Bitsy White Dot
What’s a Kardashian sister to do when she’s bored? Get tatted up of course, duh – even if the news almost broke the internet in true Kardashian style. On a recent Instagram share, the youngest sibling decided that getting an outline of each vertebra down her back would be a great idea. Don’t worry – it was all a fake! The reality star was actually inked by her friend and makeup artist Nat Wood with a Sharpie. So luckily it isn’t permanent. But soon after calling ‘syke’ Kendall went and got the real thing done and Lady Luck was not smiling down on her she opted for a ridiculous design. The model can now be seen sporting a simple, tiny white dot on her middle finger. We all know celebrities love to permanently ink themselves with some pretty little ink but sometimes the results are anything but pretty…
9. Anja K – Meow
Anja Konstantinova may have captured headlines as the first model to break the mold due to her tiny height but the Russian-born, Melbourne-raised model is turning heads for another reason now. While most people opt for delicate doodles or an inspirational quote, Anja seems to have missed the boat completely. She recently showed off her latest tattoo in a campaign for online fashion retailer Missguided and the world was not happy. Then again she does have the word ‘Meow’ permanently inked on her lower lip. If that’s not bad enough, the model-of-the-moment went a step further and opted for the word ‘Cat’ on the back of her neck. Tsk…Tsk…
8. Carolyn Murphy – Koi Fish
For those not brave enough to go under the needle you can always live vicariously through fashion’s most influential ink-lovers. But before you get carried away don’t be too quick to take a page out of Carolyn Murphy’s book. She may not have been brave enough to go with full sleeves but it certainly was a brave choice going bold with Koi fish. Rather large Koi fish. It may be a popular image in Japanese tattoo culture and holds much symbolism. It’s been said to represent courage and success and the ability to overcome life’s obstacles. Perhaps it’s bringing Carolyn luck as she graces runway after runway but you may not be as lucky…
7. Alessandra Ambrosio – Cat Sitting On Moon
The gorgeous Brazilian supermodel’s work attire includes underwear and or swimwear so it’s kind of hard to miss her tramp stamp. We mean back stamp. There are rumours that she has more than one tattoo but this is the only one visible. The tattoo details a cat sitting on a crescent moon, dangling a little star. We’re not sure of what the exact meaning behind the unusual tattoo design is but one thing we are sure of is that the Victoria’s Secret Angel has one of the most talked about tattoos of all time. So much so that thousands of people all over the world have copied her exact design as they find it so unique. Oh the irony…
6. Lily Cole – Gothic Gibberish
British actress and model Lily Cole’s foot tattoo had to make it onto our list. For a start it’s rather high-brow and it’s in a Gothic font. The new ink says ‘Ut Apes Geometriam’ across her foot which is Latin for ‘as bees, geometry.’ This is an extract from a quote from Victor Hugo’s dark 19th century tale The Hunchback of Notre Dame: “I possess philosophy by instinct, by nature, ut apes geometriam.” She was always fondly known as the redheaded British supermodel with beauty as well as brains – but things have taken a bad, Gothic turn and we’re afraid it might be too late to save her from herself.
5. Gisele Bundchen – A Friggin Star
The Brazilian supermodel went for a star. A star! Why you ask? Well Gisele went on to reveal that when she first moved to New York there were no stars in the sky. So she decided to draw one on her wrist and kept it there for a month and then eventually had someone draw it in permanently. Cue the violins and let’s put an end to that sob story. We’re still not okay with this. It’s. A. Star…
4. Kate Moss – $1-Million Birds
Britain’s most successful supermodel Kate Moss joins the bad ink rankings and was seen flaunting a pair of swallows on her lower back, a quarter-inch heart on her left hand and a crown on her left shoulder. Now the blonde beauty has debuted the latest addition to her collection of body art with what looks like a small anchor tattoo on her right wrist. While the tiny retro anchor may not affect her work portfolio we’re a little more worried about the tramp stamp. Who places birds on their butt?
Kate recently revealed that Lucian Freud, the late artist, inked that tattoo on her lower back which is rumoured to be worth more than £1 million. She’s lucky she is one of the world’s most beautiful women. She’s certainly not the smartest…
3. Heidi Klum – Ex-Husband’s Name…Awkward
Stars are tacky and there’s no excuse for tramp stamps but we can think of one other thing as a definite no-no when it comes to getting inked – declarations of love. More often than not we fall prey to this bad lapse in judgement. And even hot supermodels fall victim and get a tattoo out of love. And, just like so many of us mere mortals, these supermodels regret their ink. Model and TV personality Heidi Klum regrets her so much that she’s cleaning up her image – literally. Heidi is currently going under laser to remove her tattoo. She had ex-husband Seal’s name and their three children’s initials in the stars on her right arm to celebrate their fourth wedding anniversary. But now she’s divorced and dating her bodyguard. Awkward.
2. Chanel Iman – A Coat Hanger
The types of women sporting ink these days range from models to major trendsetters to musos. And while some of their permanent choices are great, some are very, very questionable. Take for example supermodel Chanel Iman who ranks in at number 2. She’s a model. Models wear clothes. We get it but what we don’t get is why she would think putting a clothes hanger on her neck is a good idea. Her logic is presumably that she is a walking clothes hanger but we can’t help but think it’s one of the worst tattoo ideas ever. Chanel Iman’s mini-hanger is the supermodel equivalent of an actor getting a clapperboard or a musician getting a music note. No, just no.
1. Cara Delevingne – Animals and Bacon
After a lot of snooping, we mean browsing the interwebs, we have decided that first spot can only go to British supermodel Cara Delevingne. Her tattoos have been causing a viral frenzy online after she shared a sneak peek on Instagram and it’s easy to see why. The gorgeous fashion model and actress decided getting the word ‘Bacon’ permanently inked on her foot would be a grand old idea. If that’s not bad enough she went and got a lion’s face on her right middle finger. She could be the world’s biggest supermodel of the decade or just the owner to the world’s worst design in tattoo history. We’ll let you decide…
