It’s clear that celebrities live a life much more different than the rest of the world. They’re constantly surrounded by paparazzi, paid millions to perform, and are adored by masses of fans. This amount of attention, fame, and adoration creates a bubble for celebrities to live in. However, as it turns out some Hollywood stars have completely lost touch with reality and seem to live in another world altogether. Some seem to have no idea how the real world really works, what is and isn’t considered appropriate and/or what life is like for everyone else. These out of touch celebs try to relate to their fans and appear like they live a normal everyday life, but their actions speak otherwise. The quotes and actions of the following ten Hollywood stars prove that they have in fact completely lost touch with reality.
10. Christina Aguilera
In 2010, Christina Aguilera released her 6th studio album Bionic and unfortunately, it was a total flop. Now, how do you respond when your album flops? Well, if you’ve completely lost touch with reality like Aguilera had done, you tell the public its ahead of its time and that they don’t know good music. In a 2012 interview with Billboard, the pop star defended her notorious flop stating, “I can proudly say it was ahead of its time, to be honest. It wasn’t so commercialized. You had to really be a music lover, be a true fan of music and the love of being open to really appreciate that record.” We’re not so sure that’s true, considering that some of the tracks on Bionic included titles like “Woohoo” and “Sex for Breakfast.”
In February 2014, the world was grieving the loss and honoring the life of Academy Award winning actor Phillip Seymour Hoffman, who had suddenly and tragically passed away at the age of forty-seven – well everyone, except Drake. The rapper took that opportunity to throw a public fit over the fact that his cover story for Rolling Stone was bumped last minute in favor of a story about the death of Phillip Seymour Hoffman. Drake wrote in a now deleted Tweet, “[Rolling Stone] also took my cover from me last minute and ran the issue. I’m disgusted with that. RIP to Phillip Seymour Hoffman. All respect due. But the press is evil.”
8. Miley Cyrus
It would appear that Miley Cyrus lost touch with reality back in 2013 when she put on that cringe-worthy VMA performance with Robin Thicke, but that was child’s play compared to Cyrus’ performances these days. Cyrus kicked off her new tour in mid-November and decided to up the cringe-worthiness by donning a strap-on dil*o and a breastplate with fake boobies for most of the show. Clearly, she has lost touch with reality because most people would consider wearing a strap-on in public completely inappropriate – but maybe, she’s just being Miley.
7. Kristen Stewart
Kristen Stewart has never been particularly gracious for the amount of money, fame, and opportunities the Twilight Saga series has given her. Instead, Stewart has complained many times about the amount of attention she receives. However, it was the 2010 interview with Elle magazine that showed the world that the young actress had lost touch with reality when she compared being chased by the paparazzi to being sexually assaulted. Stewart told Elle, “What you don’t see are the cameras shoved in my face and the bizarre intrusive questions being asked, or the people falling over themselves, screaming and taunting to get a reaction. The photos are so… I feel like I’m looking at someone being rap*d. A lot of the time I can’t handle it. It’s f***ed. I never expected that this would be my life.”
6. Kanye West
Thanks to Kanye West‘s huge ego, the rapper has made a fool of himself with his slew of out of touch quotes over the years. Some of his most out of touch quotes include…
“I’m like a vessel and God has chosen me to be the voice and the connector.”
“Don’t ask me what I think the best song of last year was, because my opinion is the same as America’s. It was Gold Digger.”
“My greatest pain in life is that I will never be able to see myself perform live. Kim doesn’t understand what a blessing I am to her.”
“Sometimes people write novels and they just be so wordy and so self-absorbed. I am not a fan of books. I would never want a book’s autograph. I am a proud nonreader of books.”
Need we say more? Kanye West meet reality.
5. Paris Hilton
Hotel Heiress Paris Hilton was born into wealth thanks to her great-grandfather, Conrad Hilton the founder of Hilton hotels. In the early 2000s, she achieved Hollywood fame due in part to her reality television show The Simple Life and a “leaked” sex tape. Hilton is worth a staggering $100 million, but according to Paris being a multi-millionaire who gets a lot of media attention is very hard.
In a 2011 appearance on CNN’s Piers Morgan Tonight, Hilton complained about the hardships of being a famous celebrity. When asked more about these supposed hardships Hilton said, “I’ve really grown a thick skin over the years. And I’ve had so many things said about me. And it’s hard, but I feel like what else could happen at this point? Everything bad that can happen to a person has happened to me.” Sorry, Paris – being wealthy and famous is not the worst thing that can happen to a person.
4. Nicolas Cage
Nicolas Cage has had a number of financial problems thanks to poor money management, unpaid taxes, and outrageous spending. In 2009, Cage sued his former financial manager for quote “leading him down a path towards financial ruin.” The lawsuit revealed that Cage had bought two castles, four yachts, rare dinosaur skulls, a pyramid prepared for his body to rest in after his death, and a pair of albino cobras, all against the advice of the manager he was suing. Cage – you have only yourself to blame for that financial mess.
3. Gwyneth Paltrow
When Gwyneth Paltrow launched her lifestyle newsletter Goop in 2008, the world quickly learned how out of touch the Hollywood starlet was with reality. Her 2015 holiday gift guide has been widely criticized for including products you will never need at insanely high prices like $125,000 Goldloft 18K gold dumbbells, a $244 toothpaste squeezer, $2,300 playing cards, and a $55,000 pair of headphones. Paltrow insists the Goop newsletter is aimed at the everyday American – but judging by those prices, we beg to differ. On top of her out of touch newsletter, Paltrow has ruffled feathers throughout the years for her out of touch quotes like, “I’d rather smoke crack than eat cheese from a tin” and “I am who I am. I can’t pretend to be somebody who makes $25,000 a year.”
2. Kim Kardashian
For a woman that has had the past eight years of her life filmed and broadcast for the entire world to see, it’s no surprise that Kim Kardashian has lost touch with reality. Thanks to her reality shows and constantly being in the public eye, we’ve had front row seats on how out of touch she really is. Like when Kim said, “I hate when women wear the wrong foundation color. It might be the worst thing on the planet when they wear their makeup too light.” She also once said, “Stretchmarks are my biggest fear of life.” When talking about her pregnancy weight gain Kim said, “I’d think God was doing this for a reason. He was saying, ‘Kim, you think you’re so hot but look what I can do to you.'” Her thoughts on the planet’s worst things, her worst fear and why she thinks she gained weight during her pregnancy is pretty much proof that Kim Kardashian is out of touch with reality.
1. Tom Cruise
Tom Cruise joined the Church of Scientology in 1986, and it was then that he began to lose touch with reality. The church has reportedly been to blame for the breakup of his marriage to Nicole Kidman and his marriage to Katie Holmes – and it’s also reportedly the reason he hasn’t seen his daughter Suri Cruise in almost two years. When Cruise speaks about being a Scientologist, it’s clear that he has completely lost touch with reality. When asked about being a Scientologist Cruise replied, “Being a Scientologist, when you drive past an accident… you know you have to do something about it because you’re the only one that can help” – and that about sums it up.
