10 Stars Who Became Has-Beens In Their 20s

Being able to retire young is the ultimate dream, but being forced to retire young is an entirely different story. When a celebrity is forced to retire young, it just means the people stopped caring. Everyone lost interest and they were quickly forgotten. There’s nothing worse than becoming a has-been while still in your 20’s, when you’ve still got a whole lot of life left to live. Someone on the brink of extinction but not quite there as yet is Iggy Azalea, who was embarrassingly rumored to have cancelled her tour due to extremely poor ticket sales earlier this summer.

In some cases, the celeb will do or say something that puts the public off, and subsequently, their career never fully recovers. As the saying goes, fame is fickle, and most celebrities know this. The smart ones do anyway, which is why they cash in with lucrative side projects to secure their financial future. Essentially, if a celeb who’s hot for the moment plays their cards right, they can potentially profit off of their temporarily hot name for life by brandishing themselves.

Despite the many legends that celebrity has produced, legendary status is extremely rare. In the majority of cases, those that are fortunate enough to outlast the proverbial 15 minutes of fame, survive long enough only to burn out by minute 45. Here are 10 stars who started out with flaming white hot potential, to ultimately burn out after 45 minutes of fame.

10. Azealia Banks

One of the biggest slaps in the face in today’s social media driven world is having your Twitter verification revoked. This happened to 25 year old rapper Azealia Banks in September, after news broke that she called a male flight attendant a f****t during a heated argument over her luggage. Embarrassed, the Z-lister immediately privatized her account, only to make it public again after the blue check mark was apparently reissued many hours later. The outspoken rapper’s strange explanation for why she feels she should get a pass for using the offensive slur is: “I am bisexual. my brother is trans. My employees are all gay men. Nothing else to say.” Mind numbingly inane to say the least. The one hit wonder caught her big break with her debut single 212 back in 2011, and just hasn’t been able to repeat the same success since, now better known for making headlines over her controversial and unsolicited opinions.

9. Raven Symone

These days, it’s hard to remember a time when Raven Symone was the most adorable kid on television, thanks to the frequent bouts of foot in mouth disease she suffers from as a new co-host on The View. The 29 year old got her start at the tender age of 4 on The Cosby Show, and moved on to film as the years went by, steadily landing various roles in memorable movies throughout her adolescence. By 18, Raven landed her most recognized role as the lead on That’s So Raven, which became the highest rated and longest running show on Disney. The singer/actress turned daytime television host replaced Rosie O’Donnell on The View in May of 2015, and has found herself the topic of controversy in the media several times since. Most recently by shamelessly admitting she wouldn’t hesitate to discriminate against an ethnic sounding name as an employer.

8. Lil Mama

Lil Mama, who’s real name is Niatia, experienced very sudden success at just 19 years old when her debut album, Voice of The Young People sold nearly 20,000 copies in the first week, and peaked at number 25 on the Billboard chart; a rare feat for brand new artists. The one hit wonder had a huge smash on her hands in the summer of 2007 with Lipgloss which made it into the top 10 on the Billboard 200. These days the 26 year old is best remembered for that one cringe worthy time when she crashed Jay-Z and Alicia Key‘s performance of Empire State of Mind at the MTV Awards in 2009, during which the rap legend did his best not to acknowledge the unwelcome guest. Twitter had a hilarious field day over the painfully awkward moment.

7. Lil Bow Wow

Lil Bow Wow hit the big time at just 11 years old when he was discovered and mentored by hip hop producer Jermaine Dupri, in 1998. The former child star who now prefers to be referred to as Shad Moss, had a quick rise to fame in his early life, and enjoyed nearly a decade of consistent success, making it into the Guinness Book of World Records in 2000, as the youngest rapper to have a #1 hit with Bounce With Me. By the time the young man reached 21 however, his popularity began dwindling noticeably and he seemed to have outgrown his childhood charm, while ironically pretty much remaining the same height. The 28 year old rapper turned actor is most recently known for hosting BET’s 106 & park.

6. Macaulay Caulkin

Macaulay Culkin’s highest accomplishment in life took place in 1989, when he was 9 years old. That was the year the child star filmed what would become his most recognizable piece of work, his role in the Home Alone franchise. Having experienced the peak of his success before even hitting puberty, there wasn’t really anywhere for the child actor to go but downhill, which is what happened after the 14 year old quit acting in 1995, and got caught up with hardcore drug use shortly afterwards. Macaulay would later reemerge back in films after an 8 year hiatus. In 2013 however, the actor nearly lost his life due to a near fatal heroine overdose. The former child star who hasn’t had any notable roles since 1994’s Richie Rich, became the first child actor to ever receive $1 million dollars for a film role in My Girl.

5. Adrienne Bailon

Adrienne Bailon got her start in the platinum selling girl group 3LW, at the age of 17. Although the young group got off to a successful start selling 1.3 million copies of their debut album in the US alone, the union was short lived, and Adrienne eventually moved on to acting. Her most recognizable role came in 2003 at age 20 in The Cheetah Girls. The movie lead to a second girl group for Adrienne, that also featured fellow young has-been, Raven Symone. The Cheetah Girls became a larger success than 3LW thanks to the Disney affiliation, and spawned a sequel, and 3rd movie. However by the time the franchise ended and the group dismantled, 26 year old Adrienne found herself back at square one. Today the 31 year old co-hosts the daytime television talk show The Real, with another fellow has-been, Tamera Mowry.

4. Mowry Twins

Twins Tia and Tamera Mowry are best recognized for their roles on the hit television series Sister, Sister. The show lasted a total of 6 seasons and made the two 16 year old girls become instant household names, but after the show’s cancellation in 1999, the 21 year old twins failed to keep themselves relevant, taking unusual amounts of time off here and there, thanks in large part to residual checks from Sister, Sister re-runs. Tia was able to continue acting when she nabbed a regular role on BET’s The Game in 2006, while Tamera has moved on from acting to co-host the day time television show The Real, along side Adrienne Bailon. Most child stars are prone to become has-beens quite early on in life, likely due to settling into their niche for so many years and getting too comfortable.

3. Frankie Muniz

After a long run as the lead character in the fox series Malcolm In The Middle, Frankie Muniz pretty much disappeared into obscurity. The show was an instant hit when it premiered in 2000, and lasted for a solid seven seasons catapulting the then 15 year old Frankie into instant fame and fortune. Following the show’s cancellation in 2006, 21 year old Frankie was determined to transition from the small screen to the big screen, and was able to land some decent movie roles in the beginning, but the hot streak didn’t last long before the actor returned to the small screen in various supporting roles. Not much has been heard from the now 29 year old actor as of late.

2. Paris Hilton

Paris Hilton, who doesn’t get enough blame credit for unleashing the Kardashian clan onto the world, probably didn’t expect to one day be eclipsed by Kim Kardashian’s famous derriere. The heiress’ claim to fame was the infamous leaked sex tape with boyfriend at the time Rick Solomon, 1 Night in Paris; the tape that would later inspire the now more famous Kim Kardashian’s Kim K Superstar. Paris received her own reality shows The Simple Life, and Paris Hilton’s My New BFF, as a result of the naughty tape. The socialite has made out the most successful has-been on the list, accumulating a net worth of over $100 million despite a major decline in popularity. If it’s any consolation to Paris, Kim’s reality show queen crown has recently been jacked by none other than 18 year old sister, Kylie Jenner.

1. Lindsay Lohan

Lindsay Lohan started out with all of the potential in the world, getting her big break at 12 years old after starring in The Parent Trap, and an even bigger break at 17 when she starred in the classic film Mean Girls. Her debut album Speak, went platinum in the US and peaked at number 4 on the Billboard chart. By 2007 however, 21 year old Lindsay’s life began spinning out of control due to drug and alcohol abuse, which resulted in several run-ins with the law, including DUI charges, rehab stints, and brief incarcerations. The young starlet’s troubled circumstances eventually led to many missed movie deal opportunities, and a poor reputation in Hollywood. Unfortunately in recent years, the now 29 year old actress’s career has been on the back burner while the actress herself has become a tabloid fodder, frequently making headlines for her personal life issues.
