Everyone has bad days. These are the type of days where everything seems to be going wrong and you end up saying something that you didn’t necessarily mean. Although some of these misguided statements are forgivable, some are so incredibly rude, racist and just all together horrifying, that they leave a scar that is not so easily healed. While some people can keep their outbursts on the down low, celebrities aren’t so lucky. When celebrities freak out and say something shocking, it inevitably gets leaked to the press, where their outburst can be replayed again and again, for the entire world to hear.
The 10 outbursts of the celebrities listed below are particularly shocking. They are the type of outbursts that leaves their fans questioning what type of person their favorite celebrity is behind closed doors. Some of these outbursts saw the end of the once beloved celebrity’s career, while others were brushed off by the media for no apparent reason. However, these stars handled their unfortunate ramblings, they made it clear that words really can hurt.
10. Kanye West
Kanye West seems to have a bit of a problem with saying exactly what comes into his mind, no matter how inappropriate it is. In 2005, West was hosting a charity show to help raise money for the victims of Hurricane Katrina, in which he said, “George Bush doesn’t care about black people.” Five years later, Bush responded by saying, “I didn’t appreciate it then. I don’t appreciate it now.” Then in 2009, Kanye West stole the show from Taylor Swift after he grabbed the microphone out of her hands while she was accepting her award. Swift eventually forgave West, but that doesn’t mean that the rest of the world won’t forget these infamous words, “Yo Taylor, I’m really happy for you, I’ll let you finish but…”
9. Russell Crowe
In June 2011, Russell Crowe took to twitter to announce his disgust with circumcision. In his twitter tirade he tweeted, “Circumcision is barbaric and stupid. Who are you to correct nature? It is real that GOD requires a donation of foreskin? Babies are perfect.” Later he tweeted, “I love my Jewish friends, I love the apples and the honey and the funny little hats but stop cutting yr babies.” Needless to say, Crowe ended up offending a lot of people. In response to the backlash he faced, the actor apologized by saying he has, “deep and abiding love for all people of all nationalities,” but of course, he promptly added, “I can’t apologize for my heartfelt belief.”
8. Tracy Morgan
In June 2011, funnyman Tracy Morgan spewed out a slew of homophobic rants during one of his comedy shows in Nashville. Kevin Rogers, a gay man in Morgon’s audience, took to Facebook to share the horrifying things that Morgan said during his stand up show. Apparently, Morgan started off by saying that if his son ever told him he was gay, he would stab him to death. He then went on to say that gays should just toughen up when it comes to bullying, that they should, “beat those little f-ckers that bully them, not whine about it.” Morgan quickly apologized by saying that he is, “an equal opportunity jokester,” and that he, “took his comments too far.”
7. Isaiah Washington
On the set of Grey’s Anatomy, Isaiah Washington hurled homophobic slurs at his co-star, T.R Knight during an argument with fellow co-star, Patrick Dempsey. Just ten days later, Knight came out as gay. In an interview with Ellen, Knight said, “He referred to me as a faggot…Everyone heard it…I’ve never been called that to my face.” Washington eventually apologized for his comments but it seemed to be too little too late. Washington was fired from Greys Anatomy after the season ended. In a later interview, Washington said that he felt, “used and exploited” and that Knight should have been the one to take the fall.
6. Christian Bale
Christian Bale has made quite a few headlines as a result of his fiery temper. In 2009, a tape of Bale screaming at the Director of photography, Shane Hurlburt on the set of his movie, Terminator Salvation was leaked to the public. The recording features a slew of profanities. Some of his comments to Hurlburt include, “What the —- is it with you? What don’t you ——- understand? You got any ——- idea about, her it’s ——- distracting having someone walking up behind Bryce in the middle of the ——-scene?” In the recording, you can hear Hurlburt apologize about walking on set and staying calm throughout the entire ordeal. Bale, on the other hand, continues to rail on Hurlburt for a good four minutes. Eventually, the director of the film went to Access Hollywood to defend Bale, saying that he is a, “consummate professional.”
5. Alec Baldwin
Alec Baldwin is another celebrity who is known for his fiery temper, as well as his acting chops. Baldwin’s most infamous rant is probably when he left a less than pleasant voicemail for his eleven-year-old daughter. In the voicemail, Baldwin says, “You are a rude, thoughtless little pig. You don’t have the brains or the decency as a human being.” Baldwin went on to apologize for his rant against his daughter, blaming his stressful custody battle with Kim Basinger. However, the infamous voicemail made a good case for the courts to ban Baldwin from seeing his daughter, Ireland.
4. Michael Richards
In November 2006, the former Seinfeld funnyman, Michael Richards went on a racist tirade at the Laugh Factory during one of his stand up acts. In the show, he hurled racist comments at some of the black members in the audience. He called them n—— and even made references to lynching during part of his routine. The whole act was filmed and put on Youtube by someone in the audience where it quickly went viral. Richards eventually issued an apology saying, “For me to be at a comedy club and to flip out and say this crap, I’m deeply, deeply sorry. I’m not a racist, that’s what’s so insane about this.”
3. John Mayer
In February 2010, musician John Mayer made a slur of racist comments during his interview with Playboy. In the interview, Mayer said, “My d*** is sort of like a white supremacist. I’ve got a Benetton heart and a f***ing David Duke c***. I’m going to start dating separately from my d***…” Mayer received a ton of backlash as a result of his racist comments. Katheryin Russell-Brown, the author of The Color of Crime, said that Mayer seems to be saying, “black women are not just not his type, they’re not in his class. They’re beneath him.” As expected, Mayer eventually apologized for his statements, calling them “arrogant.” He also said that his interview was just, “a quest to be clever.”
2. Charlie Sheen
Charlie Sheen is basically the King of incoherent twitter rants. In February 2011, Sheen went on a twitter rampage that seemed to last weeks. In his tweets, he made strange comments like, “I am on a drug-it’s called Charlie Sheen. It’s not available because if you try it, you will die. Your face will melt off and your children will weep over your exploded body,” and, “I’m different. I have a different constitution, I have a different brain, I have a different heart. I got tiger blood, man.” Although Sheen seemed to think he was “winning,” during his rants, CBS executives thought otherwise. Sheen was eventually fired from his hit show, Two and a Half Men after his excessive erratic behavior.
1. Mel Gibson
In July 2012, Mel Gibson was taped violently harassing his ex-girlfriend, Oksana Grigorieva. In the recordings Gibson says, “You need a f—— bat in the side of the head. Alright, How about that?’ He also threatens to kill her by saying, “I’ll put you in a f—— rose garden you c—! You understand that? Because I’m capable of it. You understand that?” Mel also refers to Grigorieva as a n—– and says that if she was raped it would be her fault because of the clothes she wears. Gibson’s career never quite bounced back after his violent outburst was taped for the public to hear, proving that Hollywood might not be as forgiving as once thought.
