We see it time and time again — a celebrity has a breakout year but struggles to follow that sort of success a second time around. Most commonly seen in music where an artist has a hit song but fails in matching the same kind of buzz on a follow-up single and ends up being dropped from the label before an album even comes out. As technology continues to change, consumers are drifting away from purchasing music legally or even going out to watch a movie at a local theatre when they can just watch it through a torrenting site online. All of these things have contributed to the fact that many celebrities and their relevance fade in what seems to be in an instant, simply because the world moves so quickly, we easily forget about things that may have happened a year ago. In this list, we’ve gathered together ten celebrities who have shown great signs that they will not be remembered by 2016. While many of these stars have enjoyed the taste of fame and fortune, we reckon that every single one of these Hollywood celebs will struggle in keeping their name on everybody’s lips purely judging on how their careers have turned out in recent months.
10. Carly Rae Jepsen
2012 was a very big year for Carly Rae Jepsen, who exploded onto the scene with her smash hit ‘Call Me Maybe.’ The track went on to sell more than ten million copies worldwide and people were eager to see whether Carly’s next single would do the same kind of numbers. As expected, it didn’t. ‘This Kiss’ failed to make any sort of impact on the charts and so did her album which was released soon after. Carly then returned earlier this year with her newest song ‘I Really Like You,’ and though it’s catchy, people seem to be totally over the whole bubblegum, cheesy pop music. So despite having tried to regain people’s interest, Carly Rae will most likely be off everybody’s radar before the end of this year.
9. The Duggar Family
Following the shocking sex scandal surrounding Josh Duggar, who famously admitted to having sexually abused his sisters as a teenager, his entire family has suffered from his actions in more ways than one. While the Duggars are still a relatively hot topic in the news, TLC is expected to cancel the family’s hit program 19 Kids and Counting, as dozens of advertisers have pulled out of sponsorship deals with the show. Then again, we’ve seen this time and time again. A scandal breaks, the family will then go on a domestic interview tour, telling everyone who will listen how innocent they are and after that, they disappear. This will be no different for the Duggars.
8. Rita Ora
Rita Ora has supposedly been signed to Roc Nation since 2008, but has only graced the music industry with one studio album and a couple of singles — all which have failed to make any impact in the United States. She had a small role in 50 Shades of Grey, was the featured artist on Iggy Azalea’s smash hit ‘Black Widow,’ holds an Adidas endorsement deal, yet still can’t seem to attract anybody’s interest. The people in the States are still wondering what Rita’s actual profession is seeing that she’s doing more stuff in other fields than the supposed music career she’s been dying to kick off. With all the things that Rita has done to make a name for herself in recent years, she still hasn’t made any musical charting impact of her own. She even dated a Kardashian! Poor thing. All that effort and yet nobody cares. Forget 2016, Rita’s name will probably be forgotten by the end of the summer.
7. Honey Boo Boo
It was a sad day to learn that Here Comes Honey Boo Boo had been axed by TLC. The network was informed that Mama June may have been putting her children in danger after reuniting with her former boyfriend Mark McDaniel, who has been convicted of several sexual charges in the past. Even worse, June’s daughter Pumpkin, went on to insist that McDaniel sexually molested her when she was a minor but Mama June didn’t care, hence why she decided to get back with him following his prison release last year. How disgusting and sad. With the scandal starting to fade from people’s minds, Honey Boo Boo will be a thing of the past before 2016.
6. Kendra Wilkinson
Former Playboy model Kendra Wilkinson has been milking her 15 minutes of fame for as long as she could, but it finally seems that her time is coming to an end. After it was heavily reported that Kendra’s reality show could possibly face the axe for being too boring and dull, Kendra and her husband Hank Baskett, suddenly shocked the nation with the revelation that her unemployed partner had been cheating on her with a transgendered woman. Of course it was all documented for their newest season of their show, and soon after the series concluded, the couple were back to kissing and making up. People were convinced that Kendra made a strategical move in hopes that it would save her another steady cheque from WEtv. Wilkinson is most likely going to be able to milk the story for another couple of months, but people are pissed with the fake storylines; so much that Kendra will not only lose her TV show by next year, she will also be remembered as a liar who faked her husband’s cheating scandal for money and fame.
5. Karrueche Tran
Karrueche Tran. The name probably doesn’t say anything — how about Chris Brown’s ex-girlfriend? The fact that she’s considered a celebrity is bizarre enough, but we’re counting on it that before this year ends, Karrueche will be a thing of the past. This is simply based on the fact that Tran doesn’t have any relevancy in Hollywood without her attachment to her famous ex-boyfriend. Supposedly, the socialite is currently doing club appearances — charging up to $5,000 — so she better put all that money to the side and save up because the little fame she currently holds is bound to end before she knows it. Who in their right mind is paying $5,000 to have an ex-girlfriend of a singer show up to the club?
4. Keyshia Cole
Keyshia Cole will be forgotten by 2016. This is absolutely evident. While the songstress has a discography of hits that an aspiring singer can only wish for, Keyshia’s recent announcement that she was “parting ways” with her Interscope record label was the beginning of the end for her career. Interscope was the label that made Keyshia a superstar. It should also be noted that while artists usually say they parted ways with a record label, it usually turns out that the company decided to drop the musician for a certain reason. For Ms. Cole, it could be that her albums have not been selling as well as they used to. Her latest album Point Of No Return, has been out for almost a year and it still hasn’t even sold 100,000 copies in the United States. When fans stop buying an artist’s music, their relevancy is usually quickly stripped from them at the same time.
Ciara has been on the decline for as long as her fans can remember. From album to album the sales for her records continue to worsen, and so does the quality of her music. While she has continuously attempted to revive her career to what it once was, it seems that her fans have given up on hoping that the former Crunk’N’B songstress will ever put out a smash hit again. Her latest album Jackie sold a shocking 19,000 copies in its first week — her all-time lowest first-week sales ever! Ciara has also been touring in the smallest theatre venues one can imagine, small enough for the average sixteen-year-old to throw a birthday party at. So sad. 2016 will likely be the year nobody will remember Ciara’s name.
2. Iggy Azalea
Iggy Azalea’s career has been going downhill ever since 2014 wrapped up. The rapper was in good spirits earlier this year when she had started planning her first arena tour with opening acts including Nick Jonas and Tinashe. However, the tour was quickly scrapped after sources revealed only 1/3 of tickets had been sold domestically. Going ahead with The Great Escape Tour would mean that Iggy and her team would lose more money without any sort of profit. Furthermore, the songs that Azalea has released this year so far have all struggled to follow the success of ‘Fancy,’’Black Widow,’ and ‘Problem’ featuring Ariana Grande. If Iggy is already struggling to produce hits and cannot sell out arena tours, there clearly isn’t much of a demand for her from the public. Many reckon that the Australian-born rapper will vanish by 2016.
1. Meghan Trainor
Meghan Trainor’s career took off following the release of her wildly-known song ‘All About That Bass.’ The track topped the charts all over the world, and similar success followed with singles, including ‘Lips Are Movin’ and ‘Dear Future Husband.’ Nonetheless, people are convinced that Trainor is just another Jepsen singer — they release a couple of catchy songs before they fall off and struggle to make a significant comeback.
