There are plenty of cases of celebrities dating co-stars. On many occasions couples with on-screen chemistry have lead of off-screen romances. Maybe it’s because actors are always making out and cuddling up with their co-stars on screen. When two gorgeous and talented actors are making out all day it’s not surprising when they end up falling in love with each other.
What is surprising is when two actors manage to fall in love while playing family members. This is weird because there is no sexual connection on screen but somehow off-screen fireworks fly. When watching siblings on screen it’s hard to imagine them getting hot and heavy. We as viewers become obsessed with the characters from our favorite shows and movies so when they begin dating their siblings it’s almost too much for us to handle. We feel kind of betrayed that our favorite characters are doing something super nasty when they date their on-screen siblings. It’s surprising when you find out that brother-sister duo you love watching are actually screwing, however once you get used to it, you accept it.
The following ten couples all dated off-screen and played relatives on-screen. Whether they played brother and sister or uncle and niece, there is something slightly wrong with a couple playing family on-screen.
10. Selena Gomez and David Henrie
Before Selena Gomez very publicly dated Justin Bieber, she co-starred in the hit Disney television Wizards of Waverly Place with the adorable David Henrie. The pair played brother and sister Alex and Justin Russo on screen, and off screen they were playing boyfriend and girlfriend. Although neither Henrie nor Gomez ever came out as an official couple they were seen countless times being extra cozy with one another. Until this day it has never been confirmed, but rumors have always run wild when it comes to Selena Gomez and whoever she is dating. Her and Bieber are currently not dating and we wonder if she and Henrie keep in touch.
9. Milo Ventimiglia and Hayden Panettiere
Milo Ventimiglia and Hayden Panettiere starred in the NBC television series Heroes. On the show, which aired for four seasons, Milo played Peter and Hayden played Claire. On the show, Panettiere’s character is adopted and it is revealed that she is the daughter of Peter’s (Ventimiglia) brother. This made his off-screen girlfriend his on-screen niece. This couple seemed to be extremely well matched and in love, however that was not enough to keep them together. Although the pair has split they are reportedly still friends. Rumor has it the couple split over their 12-year age gap, however we aren’t too sure if we believe that.
8. Emily VanCamp and Chris Pratt
Before Chris Pratt became a household name, he played Bright Abbott in the TV series Everwood. During this time he fell in love and started dating his on-screen sister and co-star, Emily VanCamp. The pair dated for two years before splitting up in 2006. Not long after breaking up with VanCamp, Pratt began dating the beautiful and hilarious Anna Faris, and he has been married with her since 2009. Clearly VanCamp has a thing for dating co-workers because Pratt was not the first one. She is now with Josh Bowman, her co-star and nemesis on the show Revenge.
7. Emily VanCamp and Dave Annable
As previously mentioned, VanCamp has a thing for dating co-stars which means she has dated more than one on-screen family member. In 2007, while starring in the show Brothers and Sisters, Vancamp and Annable began dating. Although when the show originally aired the pair played siblings, as the plot unfolded the characters were revealed not to be related. Many fans wonder if the off-screen relationship and chemistry had anything to do with the writer’s decision to make the two no longer related. The couple ended their relationship and Vancamp began dating her on-screen nemesis in 2011 on the show Revenge, who she has been with ever since.
6. Katherine Heigl and Jason Behr
Katherine Heigl and Jason Behr played alien siblings on the show Roswell. Although they played siblings on screen they played boyfriend and girlfriend off screen. The couple started dating in 1999 and engagement rumors surfaced about a year later. However, their relationship slowly faded in 2001 when the couple called it quits. Katherine Heigl is now a wife and mother. She married musician Josh Kelley and the couple have two beautiful daughters together. Behr also found happiness and became a husband and father, he married KaDee Strickland in 2006 and together they have a beautiful child named Atticus Behr.
5. Michael C. Hall and Jennifer Carpenter
You might recognize these two from the hit series Dexter where they play brother and sister. The two met on the set of the show and dated for about a year before tying the knot in 2008. Although they seemed in love to friends, family and other co-workers, the honeymoon didn’t last very long. In 2010, only two years later, Hall filed for divorce. Although their marriage ended, that didn’t mean they stopped seeing each other every day. Despite the divorce, the couple was forced to continue playing siblings until the show came to an end in 2013. The both of them always described their relationship as “respectful.”
4. Matthew Broderick and Jennifer Grey
Ferris Bueller’s Day Off is one of the most iconic movies ever. Ferris, played by Broderick, had a rocky relationship with Grey who played Jeanie, his sister. Off screen, the two shared a secret passionate romance, which ignited on the set of the movie. The couple managed to keep their relationship secret until one night in 1987. The couple was in Northern Ireland vacationing, and the pair were involved in a car accident resulting in the death of a mother and child. Five days after this tragic event, Jennifer Grey became America’s sweetheart with the release of Dirty Dancing. This event was very traumatic for Grey and it lead to her turning away from both Hollywood and Broderick.
3. Lauren Graham and Peter Krause
Lauren Graham and Peter Krause met 15 years before they played siblings on the hit television show Parenthood. Adam who was played by Krause and Sarah who was played by Graham played the two eldest of the Braverman clan. The pair began dating in 2010 during filming of the show and have been together ever since. Although they are not married, Graham joked on Ellen, telling her and fans that her and Peter are “practically married.” We love this sibling couple, and are happy to see that they have found each other. Although Parenthood has come to an end, their relationship has not.
2. Shannen Doherty and Jason Priestley
The set of the original Beverly Hill 90210 was known to be quite dramatic. Shannen Doherty was difficult due to her diva-like behavior and love of drama. Many of the actors on the show were rumored to sleep with each other, however one relationship managed to go undiscovered, until recently that is. Jason Priestley revealed to the notorious Howard Stern that he and his cast mate Shannen Doherty had been sleeping together during the first season of filming. What makes this weird is that the pair played twin siblings on the show. Although their relationship only lasted a few months they remained siblings on-screen until Doherty got fired four years later.
1. Amy Poehler and Will Arnett
These two comedic stars got married in 2003 and then again as characters on the incredible show Arrested Development in 2004. Poehler and Arnett were known as one of the funniest couples in Hollywood and played opposite each other on many projects. One of their funniest moments as a couple is when they played a brother sister skating duo named Stranz and Fairchild Van Waldenberg in the awesome movie Blades of Glory. Although many saw this couple as comedic royalty, the relationship did not last forever; like most Hollywood relationships the couple divorced in 2012.
