Hollywood actors are lucky for many reasons – they have a ton of money, amazing houses and cars, and they usually have pretty rockin bods. But another perk of being a well-known actor or actress is that you often get to date the other actors you meet on set. We can all dare to dream, but usually our celebrity crushes aren’t holding out for one of their obsessed fans, they’re busy getting it on with their sexy co-stars instead.
Many celebrity couples who met on set have managed to make it work (so far). Brangelina, Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds, and Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prinze Jr. (married for 13 years!) are all still going strong. Maybe it’s because they’re able to ignore all the tabloid rumors and communicate openly and honestly with each other. Or maybe the sex is just too hot to leave! Hollywood is a harsh place to maintain a relationship, so hats off to these guys for sticking it out.
Unfortunately, not all relationships that begin on set are so lucky. Many of these actor/actress couples just can’t make it work. Some seemed doom from the start, and others really shocked us when they announced their split, but for one reason or another, these celebrity couples who met while working together just couldn’t stay together in the end.
10. Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield – Spiderman
American sweetheart Emma Stone and British heart-throb Andrew Garfield met as co-stars of the Spider-Man remake, The Amazing Spider-Man, in 2011. They famously kept their relationship very private for years, much to the disappointment of their fans. They had a bit of an on again, off again stint in 2015 where it looked like they might be trying to work it out. But unless they’re doing round 2 of their tight-lipped dating ritual, it seems like these two are done for good.
9. Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck – Daredevil
Perhaps the most notorious break-up of 2015, Jen and Ben were quite the beloved Hollywood couple. The two met on the set of the WWII epic, Pearl Harbor, but Ben says they actually fell in love while filming Daredevil, which turned out to be an overall box office flop. They’ve been married for 10 years and have three kids together, but longevity and offspring just weren’t enough to keep them together. They decided to officially split in June of last year, although they remain friends and co-parents.
8. Courteney Cox and David Arquette – Scream
Friends star Courteney Cox and fellow actor David Arquette met on the set of Scream in 1995. They married four years later and have one daughter together named Coco. Throughout their marriage they worked together several times, with David guest-starring on Friends as Phoebe’s (Lisa Kudrow) stalker, and then co-starring with and directing his wife in the 2006 Horror/Comedy The Tripper. In 2010, Courteney told E! News that she and David had been attending couple’s therapy. Perhaps they should’ve gotten a better therapist because they announced their divorce four months later.
7. Megan Fox and Brian Austin Green – Hope & Faith
Megan Fox and Brian Austin Green have a 12-year age gap between them, but that didn’t stop them from starting a serious relationship when Megan was only 18. They met on the sitcom Hope & Faith, and Megan told People Magazine that she immediately felt sparks when Brian accidentally touched her leg on set. They married in 2010 and have two sons together.
Perhaps it was because Megan’s career was just beginning, and Brian hasn’t seen much of the Hollywood limelight since his 90210 days, but the couple began experiencing problems. Towards the end of 2010 Megan filed for legal separation. People reported that Brian responded by asking for spousal support and joint custody of their kids.
6. Kate Beckinsale and Len Wiseman – Underworld
British beauty Kate Beckinsale and director Len Wiseman had quite the rumor-filled romance at the beginning. Len directed Kate and then boyfriend Michael Sheen in Underworld in 2002, and word on the town was that she left Michael for Len. Kate denies this and says she was faithful to Michael throughout their nine-year relationship.
One way or another, Len and Kate did get together and married in 2004. But after 11 years of marriage they announced they’re divorce in November 2015. Len has already been spotted out with another bombshell, model CJ Franco, who is 18 years his junior.
5. Mia Goth and Shia LaBeouf – Nymphomaniac
Shia LaBeouf, who recently garnered a lot of internet attention with a project called All My Movies in which he broadcast himself online watching every single one of his movies in reverse chronological order, and British model-turned-actress Mia Goth met while working together on Nymphomaniac in 2012. Their three-year relationship came to a dramatic end when they were caught on tape having an explosive argument in Germany, where Shia can be heard saying “I don’t wanna touch you. I don’t wanna be aggressive. This is the kind of s**t that makes a person abusive.”
While there has been no official statement from either of them, Shia has made the split fairly obvious by traipsing around town with his American Honey co-star Sasha Lane. The New York Post reported that they’ve even moved in together.
4. Sophia Bush and Chad Michael Murray – One Tree Hill
They met on the set of their hit teen soap opera, One Tree Hill, and while their characters were heating things up on screen, Sophia Bush and Chad Michael Murray were doing the same off screen. They were married in a beach ceremony in Santa Monica, CA but separated only five months after making it official. The really bad news? They still had to work together on set everyday for another four years!
Sophia has commented on the saga with Chad saying they were “two stupid kids who had no business being in a relationship.” But they were also really dedicated to their jobs so they were able to remain professional at work, even though they never reconciled and are not in touch today.
3. Halle Berry and Olivier Martinez – Dark Tide
Halle Berry and Olivier Martinez met on the set of Dark Tide in 2010. They were married in France in July 2013 and three months later Halle gave birth to their son Maceo-Robert. But just a little over two years into their marriage they officially filed for divorce. While their statement says they’re trying to keep things amicable, the issues of spousal support and the terms of a joint custody arrangement have yet to be worked out.
2. Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson – Twilight
Evidently, not even vampires can make it work. Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson had an on-screen romance in Twilight and an off-screen romance in real life, as well as in many Hollywood tabloids. And if you thought their relationship was public, their break-up was even worse, when Kristen was caught cheating on Rob with Rupert Sanders who directed her in Snow White and the Huntsmen, in some very suggestive paparazzi photos.
For a while it seemed like Rob was actually able to forgive Kristen, but they officially ended things in 2013. Rob is currently engaged to singer FKA Twigs.
1. Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman – Days of Thunder
One of the most infamous Hollywood couples, and infamous Hollywood breakups of all time, Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman first met while filming Days of Thunder in 1989. They divorced in 2001 after 10 years of marriage and adopting two children together. Tom went on to famously date Katie Holmes (remember the Oprah couch-jumping incident?) and Nicole is now married to country singer Keith Urban.
In last year’s HBO documentary Going Clear, it was reported that Tom and the Church of Scientology may have conspired to have Nicole’s phone tapped towards the end of their marriage. The church was intent on breaking up the couple so that Tom could become a bigger proponent of Scientology. In fact, after their 2001 split, he did become more involved in the church. Since his divorce from Katie Holmes, Tom’s love life has remained pretty quiet.
