In today’s society we are so indited with all forms of technology whether that is through our phones or our computers screens. Nowadays, social media has a huge impact on today’s generation and at times it’s not always a positive one. There are many negative side effects to sharing your life online and when it comes to being a famous celebrity, you’re in the public eye; your life is already under a microscope between the paparazzi photos taken of you to the fans wanting to know everything about your personal life. To some celebrities social media is known for being fun, sharing photos and interacting with the fans, while others think of social media the “enemy” because of its invasiveness, and lack of privacy.
Some public figures don’t want to feel pressured to have to share every aspect of their life with their fans; they just want a little discretion and not have to be stressed about not taking a photo of what they ate for breakfast for “Instagram” or to tweet what they are doing throughout the day on “Twitter”. Some celebrities don’t feel the need to conform to society; they are much happier living their daily lives without sharing any details to the outside world. 10. Angelina Jolie
Angelina Jolie is best known for playing her role Jane Smith in the film “Mr. and Mrs. Smith” as well as various films. Being a wife, activist and a mother of six, Jolie has a very busy schedule as it is and the last thing she needs to worry is about her lack of privacy. Jolie has said before that she ‘isn’t very tech savvy and doesn’t like the technical challenges social media has been making’, therefore you will never see Jolie on Twitter or Facebook. Even though Jolie is in the public eye, she tries to live her life with her family under the radar but with all the scrutiny her family gets in the tabloid magazines they’re no wonder Jolie is very anti-social media.
9. Kristen Stewart
Kristen Stewart is best known for playing Bella Swan in “Twilight”. Stewart has already expressed her opinions on social media previously stating: ‘Twitter f–ks me over every day of my life. Because people go, “I’m sitting next to Kristen Stewart right now” and then [the paparazzi] show up. I get so mad. It’s like you’re trampling on someone’s life without any regard. And it’s rampant. Everyone can do it now. Buy a camera and you’re paparazzi; get a Twitter account and you’re an informant. It’s so annoying.’ Stewart has said that she hates being in the public eye and she is not shy to voice her opinion, so don’t expect her to tweet how her day is going because that will not happen any time soon.

George Clooney, known for playing the role Dr. Doug Ross in in the television series “ER” and films including “Ocean’s 11” and “Ocean’s 12”. Clooney has said that he ‘refuses to embarrass himself on any social media outlet especially via Twitter’. He stated in a previous interview ‘God forbid, you take a sleeping pill and wake up and the sentences don’t even make sense. What a horrible idea… I could easily say something stupid, and I also don’t think you need to be that available.’ Nowadays, he’s trying to keep his personal life private but it’s not easy to do because he’s a huge movie star and everyone wants to know his business. That being said he rather interact with his fans face to face instead of on the Internet.
7. Kate Hudson
Kate Hudson, blonde, bubbly actress who is best known for films such as “Raising Helen” and “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days”. Just like many celebrities Hudson steers clear of social networking sites; she had stated in an interview ‘that she was scared of all the publicity and attention’. Hudson, being an award winning actress and having one of the busiest schedules in Hollywood has absolutely no time for social media and has no desire to make a Twitter or Instagram account. Furthermore, Hudson has already enough media attention with the paparazzi, the last thing she needs is her fans to know her personal business as well.

Mila Kunis is best known for playing the role of Jackie Burkhart in the television series “That ’70s Show” she also jumped on the anti- social media bandwagon when it comes to her lack of privacy. Kunis said one time in an interview that she ‘doesn’t see the point of broadcasting her activities to the world’. Being a wife and new mom Kunis has no time to keep up with social media. We all know Kunis would make a ground-breaking tweeter with her sarcastic sense of humour and bright knowledge but, she has no interest in tweeting and sharing any details of her everyday life with her fans.
5. Bradley Cooper
Bradley Cooper is best known for the role of Phil in the comedic film “The Hangover” as well as various films, but when it comes to social media Cooper is worried that his tweets will affect how his fans see him in films. It’s hard enough in the industry when people don’t take some celebrities seriously; but in Cooper’s case he feels as though social media can ruin his professional career. He previously stated in an interview ‘It’s a great way to promote ideas and projects. For me, maybe I’m old-fashioned, if I know so much about you and you’re playing a character in a movie then that’s a lot of work I’m gonna have to do to forget who you are so that I can believe the character and therefore enjoy the movie.’ That being said if you’re looking for a selfie of him on Instagram you’ll be waiting a long time.
4. Shailene Woodley
Shailene Woodley got her fame from playing the role of Tris in the “Divergent” film series. Woodley is not a fan of social media, stating in an interview: “I’m not a big technology person. I don’t even have a smartphone. I don’t even have a cell phone! And if I were to have one, it would be a flip-phone, “I did have an Instagram before and I realized that I was just constantly doing this at a stoplight or when I was waiting for something. And then one day my thumb, I held it still, and it started shaking and it was always shaking. And I was like, ‘I’m 22 years old! That is not OK!’ And I think it was literally from typing so much and scrolling,” Woodley thinks social media takes up way too much time during the day and that there are for more important things to be worried about in today’s world.

Jennifer Lawrence is a young hot Hollywood actress best known for films like “X-Men” and “The Hunger Games.” Being in the limelight she realized the negative effects, isn’t as pro social media as some celebrities are and the reasoning behind that is because of the lack of privacy that was violated when her phone was hacked one time and all her private photos were surfaced and shared on the Internet, Lawrence said in an interview ‘I will never get Twitter. I’m not very good on the phone or technology. I cannot really keep up with emails so the idea of Twitter is so unthinkable to me. If you ever see a Facebook, Instagram or Twitter that says it’s me, it most certainly is not,’ that being said don’t ever expect a good morning tweet from this actress.

Winslet will never be on social media stating in an interview with “The Sunday Times”: ‘It has a huge impact on young women’s self-esteem, because all they ever do is design themselves for people to like them. And what comes along with that? Eating disorders. And that makes my blood boil. And is the reason we don’t have any social media in our house.” Being a feminist, Winslet does not agree with today’s society and how social media has a huge negative impact on this generation of young women.

They previously stated to Vogue Magazine “Twitter gives me so much anxiety.” “We’ve spent our whole lives trying to not let people have that accessibility, so it would go against everything we’ve done in our lives to not be in the public.” The Olsen sisters are business women and they try to stay out of the spotlight as much as possible, therefore if they give in to social media that would jeopardize everything they worked hard for including their privacy.
