Long before Teen Mom made being a teenage mother cool, there were famous (or soon to be famous) men and women having children at young ages. Some of the people listed below married at a young age and consequently had their children at a young age as well. Others, were surprised by their unexpected pregnancies but managed to care for their children in the best way they could, none-the-less. Most importantly, the stars listed below are living proof that just because you become a teen mother or father, doesn’t mean you can’t find success. In fact, all of the people listed below found fame and fortune, while having to care for their little bundles of joy at such a young age. Below is a list of ten of the most famous celebrities to have been teen mothers or fathers. Each and every one of them is proof that even if it seems unlikely, you can always persevere and find success.

Jaime Lynn Spears is a singer and actress, and the younger sister to superstar, Britney Spears. Spears gained fame after she was cast in Nickelodeon’s series, Zoey 101 in which she played the title character. However, after a controversial pregnancy in 2007 at the age of sixteen, Spears’ career went on a hiatus. Spears gave birth to her daughter, Maddie Briann Aldridge the following year. Today, Spears is happily married to businessman, Jaime Watson. She is also trying to get her career back on track. She recently released her debut single, “How Could I Want More,” and an Ep entitled, The Journey.

Solange Knowles is a singer, songwriter, model and the younger sister to Beyoncé. Knowles showed her appreciation for music at a young age. By the age of sixteen, she had released her first album entitled, Solo Star. When Knowles was just seventeen she married Daniel Smith, and gave birth to her son a few short months later. Knowles has been honest about her regret with having a child at such a young age but she has also said that her son has been, “the greatest unplanned blessing.” In 2007, Knowles and Smith divorced but remained civil in order to co-parent their child. Knowles has continued to pursue her musical career, amidst her busy life. On May 14, 2013, Knowles announced that she would be launching her own record label and that she will be using it to release her third album.

Keisha Castle-Hughes is an Australian actress who is best known for playing Paikea “Pai” Apirana in the movie Whale Rider, for which she became the youngest person at the time to be nominated for an academy award. In October 2007, when Castle-Hughes was just sixteen, she announced that she and her boyfriend, Bradley Hull were expecting a child together. Their daughter, Felicity-Amore Hull was born just a month before Castle-Hughes’ seventeenth birthday. The couple stayed together for seven years before calling it quits. In 2012, Castle-Hughes married DJ Jonathan Morrison, just six weeks after they met. Since then, she has appeared in Rewind, The Stolen and she will be appearing in Game of Thrones.

Niki Taylor is a model who began working at the tender age of thirteen. She garnered fame when she won a Fresh Faces contest in New York City and later appeared on the cover of Vogue. In addition, she appeared on the covers of Allure, Vogue, ELLE, Marie Claire, Self and Shape. In 1993, Taylor met former linebacker Matt Martinez. The couple eloped three months later and at the age of 19, Taylor gave birth to twin boys, Jake and Hunter. However, just two years later, the couple decided to separate. Today, Taylor is married to NASCAR driver Burney Lamar, the couple have two children together.

Lil Wayne is a rapper who is famous for songs like, “Lollipop,” “A Milli” and “Got Money.” At the young age of 15, Lil Wayne became a father to daughter Reginae, with high school sweetheart Antonia “Toya” Carter. The pair married on Valentines Day in 2004 and divorced in 2006. Since then, Lil Wayne has had three more children with three different women. Amidst all of this, he has managed to maintain a successful rapping career. His new and final album, Carter V is set to be released on October 28, 2014.

Aretha Franklin is a well-known singer and musician. Franklin grew up in Auburn Hills, Michigan. She gave birth to her first two sons just before her 13th and 15th birthdays. Neither of these boys’ fathers have been identified. Franklin’s aunt was the one to take care of her two boys while Franklin went off to pursue a successful music career. She ended up having two more sons in 1964 and 1970. Today she is thought to be worth around $60 million.

Naomi Judd is a county singer, songwriter and an activist. At the age of eighteen, Judd gave birth to her first daughter, Christina Ciminella and four years later, she gave birth to daughter Ashley. When her marriage to Michael Ciminella ended, Judd became a single parent. She brought up her children by first attending nursing school and then by becoming a successful country singer with her daughter Winona (previously known as Christina). In 1989, Judd married Larry Strickland, the pair have no children together.

Anna Nicole Smith was a model, actress and TV personality. She first gained fame in 1993, when she won playmate of the year. At the age of fifteen, Smith dropped out of high school and was married at the age of seventeen. At eighteen, she gave birth to her son Daniel. Her second marriage to J. Howard Marshall was a highly publicized affair, given that Smith was twenty-six at the time of the marriage and Marshall was eighty-nine. In a sad turn of events, Smith died on February 8, 2007, just weeks after her son Daniel.

Shirley Temple was best known for being a child star in the 1930’s. She began her career at the age of three, in 1932. From there she went on to star in films such as Bright Eyes, Curly Top and Heidi. When Temple was fifteen years old she met John Agar, an Army Air Corps Sergeant. Just two years later, the pair were married. On January 30, 1948, at the age of nineteen, Temple gave birth to daughter Linda Susan. Temple and Agar decided to go their separate ways and finalized their divorce on December 5, 1950. Temple was married again just eleven days later to Charles Alden Black, a WWII United States Navy Intelligence officer. The couple remained together until Black’s death in 2005.

At the age of 18, Vergara married her childhood sweetheart, Joe Gonzalez. She gave birth to her son Manolo, just one year later. The next year the couple decided to call it quits. In July 2012, it was reported that Vergara was engaged to boyfriend Nick Loeb. However, two years later, Vergara announced that the engagement had been broken off. Today, Vergara is reportedly dating True Blood star Joe Manganiello. Her professional life is seemingly going great as well, as she has been the highest paid television actress for three years running.
