Sometimes it can seem like celebrities aren’t real people like you and me. In today’s society, we idolize celebrities to such an extent that sometimes, it doesn’t even cross our minds that celebrities do ordinary things like, grocery shopping or going to the movies or hanging out with ordinary people. Sometimes we have to remind ourselves that besides being rich and famous, celebrities aren’t too much different than us. They have their good qualities and their flaws and sometimes, they do extraordinary things. Like save another human being. The celebrities listed below have all taken part in saving someone else’s life. In that moment, the people listed below weren’t celebrities, they were just ordinary people doing an extraordinary thing. Whether it be saving someone from walking into a busy street, or flying a helicopter in order to save a stranded hiker, the celebrities listed below have all saved someone in one way or another.
10. Mila Kunis
Actress Mila Kunis knows how to conduct herself in a time of crisis. After a man who worked for Kunis collapsed in her house and suffered a seizure, she didn’t just stand idly by. Instead, she instructed her friend to call 911, turned the man’s head to the side, in order to keep him from choking and stayed with him until the paramedics came and rushed him to the hospital. Thanks to Kunis’ quick thinking, the 50-year-old man made a full recovery.
9. Tom Hanks
Tom Hanks is known for having some of the best acting chops in all of Hollywood, but he is also a real-life hero. One day, Hanks was reportedly jogging near his home in Malibu, California, when he heard the screams of someone in danger. It turns out someone had gotten caught in the riptide and had been swept out into the open ocean. In order to save the drowning man, Hanks called out instructions on how to escape the riptide. After the man had successfully removed himself from the riptide Hanks dragged the man to safety.
8. Jennifer Lawrence
Jennifer Lawrence’s heroic nature on screen may have transferred to her personal life as well. Lawrence, who plays Katniss in The Hunger Games series, was standing outside of her apartment in Santa Monica when she witnessed a woman faint on the grass. Lawrence along with a male bystander rushed to the woman’s aid. The pair called 911 as they tried to wake the woman. Lawrence stayed with the woman until the paramedics arrived and gave her the all clear.
7. Ryan Gosling
In addition to being a major heartthrob, Ryan Gosling is also a real life hero. Gosling saved a British journalist’s life when she accidentally forgot that people in the U.S drive on the right side of the road, and almost stepped into oncoming traffic. Gosling saw what was happening and pulled the journalist back into safety. Of course, the journalist couldn’t help but write about her near death experience. She took to twitter to tweet. “I literally, LITERALLY just got saved from a car by Ryan Gosling.”
6. Gerard Butler
In 1997, Gerard Butler received a certificate of bravery after rescuing a small child from drowning. The actor put his own life at risk when he went to pull the child out of a river. Butler has admitted that he didn’t feel very brave at the time. In an interview with Kelly Ripa, Butler said, “I was initially gripped by fear and an empty feeling, thinking that the boy was dead.” The actor was reminded of his moment of bravery when he nearly drowned on the set of the movie, Chasing Mavericks. When talking about the incident Butler said, “It looked like a tsunami coming in. I was down. I just didn’t come back up, really. I just started to think, ‘Wow, I’m going to die making a movie.’” Luckily the actor made a full recovery after his near death experience.
5. Patrick Dempsey
Patrick Dempsey is known for playing a neurosurgeon on TV, but he also saves lives off-screen. In 2012, Dempsey witnessed a teenage boy flip his car and quickly rushed to his rescue. The Grey’s Anatomy star ran to the car and used a crow bar to expand the doors open. After that, he pulled the teenager out of the car and stayed with him until the paramedics airlifted the teen to a hospital. Luckily, the teen only suffered an eye injury and a concussion. The mother of the boy said this about Dempsey’s quick response, “I’m just super grateful. I can’t wait to thank him personally.”
4. Prince William
In 2012, Prince William participated in the helicopter rescue of a 16-year-old girl. The young girl had been caught in a rip current off the coast of Wales, where her and her friend (who had already been rescued) were body-boarding. Prince William and the rest of the crew got there just in time. By the time they arrived, the young girl was looking exhausted. The crew’s paramedic said, “sometimes it’s just a twisted ankle or a broken bone, but this was one rescue where we truly did arrive in the nick of time and managed to save this young girl’s life.”
3. Mark Harmon
Mark Harmon, who is known for playing Special Agent Gibbs on the popular show, NCIS is a real life hero. Harmon witnessed a fiery crash near his home and rushed to the rescue. There were two boys riding in the car, one of them had gotten free and the other was trapped inside the burning vehicle. Harmon used a sledgehammer in order to break the window open. Then, he tugged at the seat-belt in order to rip the young boy out of the car. The boy suffered third degree burns but managed to make a full recovery. The young boy said this about his rescue, “There’s no way I can repay him, except to pay it forward, and I try to do that in my life.”
2. Harrison Ford
Harrison Ford, who is used to playing action heroes on screen, got the chance to be a real life hero when he rescued a hiker in distress. Two hikers were on a five-hour climb when one of them became so dehydrated that they weren’t able to take more than two steps at a time. Another hiker managed to call for help and that’s when Ford took to the air. Ford used a helicopter in order to rescue the distressed hiker and bring her to safety.
1. Tom Cruise
Tom Cruise seems to save lives on a regular basis. There was one time where he saw that a yacht was in flames and instead of waiting for help, he took it upon himself to set sail towards it, and pulled everyone to safety. There was another instance in which Cruise witnessed a hit and run accident, after which he stayed with the victim until the paramedics arrived. To top it all off, when he found out the victim was uninsured, he paid for her medical expenses. Finally, Cruise saved a young boy from being trampled at one of his movie premiers by pulling him out of the over-excited crowd. Cruise has proved time and time again, that even though he may be a little bit eccentric, he’s a real life hero.
