It’s not unusual for two strangers, working long hours on an exciting project together on the Hollywood scene, to suddenly find themselves in the throws of a romantic relationship. Within the entertainment industry, many find it easy to relate to one another, and become an item as a result. Soon their adoring fans grow accustom to the pair so much so, that they cleverly fuse together an endearing hybrid of the two stars’ names. This leaves many of us responding to a celebrity break up, almost as roughly as a parent’s divorce. Our hearts were torn out of our chest when news broke that these couples were calling it quits. Here is a list of 12 celebrity couples we miss seeing together.
11. Heidi Klum and Seal
Heidi Klum and Seal truly seemed like a devoted couple, Heidi having tattooed her husbands name on her forearm, and Seal having dedicated many songs to his wife. So it came as a shock when the two announced their divorce in 2014, after 7 years of marriage. Heidi told Elle Magazine that even though things seemed perfect between her and her ex-husband on the surface, they were covering up many private issues. Seal also told TMZ that Heidi was having an affair with her bodyguard before their split, which Heidi denies.
Vanessa Hudgens tells People magazine that one of the main reasons that her and boyfriend of 3 years, Zac Efron, split was because their grueling work schedules kept them apart a majority of the time. The relationship began to feel long distance. The Disney teen-dream couple met and quickly fell in love, on the set of the hit franchise High School Musical. Both have moved on and dated quite a few other celebrities, while Vanessa has managed to maintain a stable relationship for 2 years with actor, Austin Butler.
The life changing experience of becoming two of the most famous faces in the world – practically over night, brought Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson together on the set of the hit franchise, Twilight. They might’ve felt like the only people to truly understand one another at some point, so it’s no surprise that they became an item. Twilight fans were devastated to hear of their break up in 2013, Kristen’s alleged infidelity with director, Rupert Sanders being the cause.
The pair once dominated pop music as teenagers during the late 90’s and early millennium. Their relationship lasted for 3 years before calling it quits in 2002, allegedly due to Britney’s infidelity. Justin’s music video for the break up song “Cry me a river,” features a Britney look-a-like, as the singer croons on about a woman’s betrayal and his unwillingness to forgive. In the 12 years since their break up, Justin has wed long-time love and actress Jessica Biel, while Britney has had two divorces and a string of unsuccessful relationships.
It came as a surprise to fans all over the world, when Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston announced their divorce after 5 years of marriage. Brad made several public comments insinuating that he’d grown bored in his marriage to Jennifer, and admits to Esquire magazine that he was wasting his life on drugs during that period, as a form of escapism. Rumors of adultery swirled after Brad met Angelina Jolie on the set of Mr. and Mrs. Smith. The two confirmed a romantic relationship, shortly after Brad and Jennifer divorced, and are recognized today as a power couple.
Janet Jackson and Jermaine Dupri maintained a long and private relationship, managing to keep out of the public eye for the duration of their 9 year relationship. In an interview with power 105.1, Jermaine addresses allegations of his unfaithfulness to Janet by saying, “We were together for 9 years, that’s a long time. That’s like marriage. I’m a young dude. I’m gonna leave it at that. I’m a young dude in the entertainment industry. My life is crazy sometimes.”
Sparks flew between Rachel Bilson and Adam Brody when they met while filming the hit TV series, The O.C. back in 2003. The on again off again couple lasted a total of 3 years before calling it off for good in 2006. It’s unclear as to why the adorable pair were unable to work things out, but they reportedly remain good friends. Adam recently wed actress Leighton Meester, and Rachel recently confirmed her pregnancy with long-time boyfriend Hayden Christiensen.
Scarlett Johansson and Ryan Reynolds seemed like a handsome match made in heaven, and fans were thrilled when they married in 2008. Two years later, the good looking couple divorced, citing crazy work schedules and too much time apart as a major factor; a common theme around celebrity breakups, it seems. Ryan has since been re-married to actress Blake Lively, and Scarlett is expecting her first child with fiancé, Roman Dauriac.
In a classic case of life imitating art, Courteney Cox and David Arquette became a couple after playing a couple in the hit horror movie franchise, Scream. Their marriage lasted for 11 years before separating in 2010, and finalizing their divorce in 2012. Courteney tells More magazine that their marriage lasted as long as it did because of how hard they tried. The two remain good friends, and Courtney has even bonded with David’s new girlfriend, Christina McLarty.
Pop stars, Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey called off their 3 year marriage in 2005. The couple were among the first to document their relationship, via reality TV on Newly Weds: Nick and Jessica. Friends and family of the former couple tell People magazine that the two simply grew apart, and although Nick was willing to work it out, Jessica didn’t feel it was worth it. Both Nick and Jessica have moved on to other seemingly happier relationships, now parents with growing families.
Even though one of the cutest couples to come out of Hollywood didn’t last, we will forever have The Notebook, thanks to Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling. Fans were heart broken after the couple of 3 years had split up for the first time in 2007, and were overjoyed in 2008, when the two rekindled their relationship. The reconciliation was short lived however, when the pair called it off for the second and final time, just 3 months later. Ryan is quoted in GQ magazine as saying, “Women are mad at me. I feel like I want to give people hugs, they seem so sad. Rachel and I should be the ones getting hugs! Instead, we’re consoling everybody else.”
