Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. However, in today’s society, the idea of beauty seems to be set. Beauty however, is a term that has been loosely used throughout history. Beauty is constantly evolving and it is a term that will never remain the same for very long. In a world where plastic surgery is performed on teenagers and perfectly proportioned women are found in every magazine, the idea of beauty can sometimes be sullied by our society. The following ten women are redefining the idea of beauty. Each of the following have faced challenges in regard to their image and now they have all become the voice of their cause.

The following women have all inspired and motivated women around the world. They have demonstrated that beautiful people are not always the same size, color or gender but that each individual is beautiful in their own unique way. The society which we live in is, well, let’s face it, shallow. We as members of our society are almost obsessed with the way people look, which is why the following women are such great role models for our generation and the next generations to come.

These ten individuals are showing people around the world that it is not only okay to be different, it is amazing to be different. Our society needs more individuals like these to redefine the word beautiful for good. We need good role models in a world that is consumed by Kardashians and the following ten people are exactly what the world needs to start praising.

Rain Dove is an outstanding androgynous lesbian model whose unique and inspirational look has taken the fashion world by storm. Rain, who has modeled both men and women’s apparel, believes her career is, in a way, a type of activism. Incredible designers such as Vivienne Hu, Malan Breton and Rochambeau have utilized the firefighter-turned-supermodel’s talent during the last Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week. This beauty stands at 6’2 and has undeniable striking features that are extremely manly. Although Rain Dove looks like she was born for modeling, she only attended a casting call because she lost a bet. This up and coming model is one to keep an eye one.

This Latina who was born in Miami made her name in the fashion world in 2014 when she became the first plus size model to walk the runway during New York Fashion Week. This stunner has also appeared in a number of campaigns for huge companies such as Macy’s, Target, Forever 21 and Nordstroms. Bidot is now a spokesperson for “CURVES” which is a campaign, which was started by the talented photographer Victoria Jonahshvili. Jonahshvili began this campaign to inspire an open conversation about body acceptance and self-love through an artistic photography book.

Brewer, who is thirty years old, is not only on a hit television show, she has also become the first model with down syndrome to walk in a New York Fashion Week show. Although Brewer has no intention of pursuing a career in modeling, she couldn’t give up the opportunity to walk in Carrie Hammer’s “Role Models Not Runway Models” campaign. This was a huge step forward for the fashion industry. Jamie Brewer is known as being an inspiration to the down syndrome community but she is also becoming an inspiration to the world at large.

Lea T is a 34-year-old transgender model who was born in Brazil and raised in Italy and is best known as Riccardo Tisci’s muse. Tisci is the senior designer for Givenchy, which he made Lea T the face of in late 2010. Lea T, born Lea Cerezo (she uses T for Tisci), has appeared in countless magazine editorials and has walked on numerous runways. In 2014, the transgender supermodel became the face of Redken. This made her the first openly transgender model to be the face of a global cosmetic brand. Lea T is a force to be reckoned with in the fashion industry and her career is nowhere near over.

Dell’Orefice has been modeling her entire life. At the age of fifteen, the supermodel had her first appearance on the cover of Vogue and her career has not stopped since. This model is showing the world that beauty has no age limit. Her courage, confidence and self-love has inspired women around the world. Dell’Orefice can now be seen in her campaigns for both Target and Rolex. This mother of one calls New York City her home and is planning on modeling for as long as people are hiring her, claiming that it keeps her young!

Her beauty and talent both on the runway and during photo-shoots has made her one of the top contenders in the fashion world. Pejic is an inspiration to many, including the previously mentioned Elliott Sailors. This fashion powerhouse has walked for designers like Marc Jacobs and Jean Paul Gauthier and in 2014 she took the plunge. Pejic came out in saying that she had gender reassignment surgery and claims she is finally happy within herself.
