The 2015 Annual Golden Globes last night was a star studded event filled with lots of surprises and inspirational moments. As usual, the crème de la crème of Hollywood was in full attendance, and they were dressed to the nines in flawless gowns and precision-fitting tuxes. A few of the best-dressed actors included Julianna Margulies, Emma Stone, Kate Hudson and Naomi Watts. George Clooney, the silver fox, was also in attendance with his stunning new wife Amal Alamuddin – she looked very proper indeed wearing crispy white gloves on the red carpet like a proper British barrister. With regards to the sexiest look of the night, that award might just have to be split between Jennifer Lopez and Kate Hudson. They both wore very revealing outfits. In the following article, we list 10 of the most surprising moments from the award show last night. Enjoy.
Jeremy Renner’s Sexual Comment to J-Lo
One of the most sexually charged exchanges of the evening was when Hurt Locker/Avengers star Jeremy Renner and Jennifer Lopez appeared on stage to present an award together. J-Lo of course was looking sexy as ever wearing a Zuhair Murad gown with a plunging neckline. When it was time to open the envelope, Jennifer Lopez asked, “You want me to do it? I have the nails?” Renner responded while staring at her chest and said, “You have the globes too.” The whole crowd burst into laughter and J-Lo blushed a little too. But you could tell she was totally loving the attention.
Ruth Wilson Winning Best Actress in a TV Series
There was a surprise that went in favor of the new Showtime series The Affair. It was in the category of Best Actress in a TV series – Drama. It was a very tough field featuring names like Claire Danes (Homeland), Viola Davis (How To Get Away With Murder), Julianna Margulies (The Good Wife) and Robin Wright (House of Cards). The award went to the newcomer Ruth Wilson from The Affair. She is definitely a very promising actress with lots of talent, but no one thought she would win against such tough competition.
Kristen Wiig’s Underwhelming 70’s Peasant Dress
At last night’s Golden Globes, actors Kristen Wiig and Bill Hader provided some great comedic relief when it was their turn to present the award for the Best Screenplay. Their routine won them a lot of laughs and there is even speculation that they will be chosen as hosts of the Globes next year. However the one surprising thing that stuck in everyone’s mind was Wiig’s choice of attire. She decided to go for a 70’s theme, bohemian-inspired off-the-shoulder dress. The casual nature of her dress didn’t match the formal theme of the evening – it looked like she was going to a picnic party in a park. We don’t know who the stylist was, but he/she might be out of a job in the near future.
Jared Leto’s Braided Ponytail
Actor and rockstar Jared Leto is known for making some very interesting fashion choices. You may love it or hate it, he definitely marches to his own drum when it comes to putting himself together for both formal and casual outings. At the Golden Globes last night, he decided to go with a dapper white tux. It was his choice of hairstyle that lit up the internet though. He decided to wear his hair in a single braid that reached down well past his shoulders. He is already known for his “man-bun” and “fanny-pack” fashion statements. Perhaps this is his new look for 2015.
Amy Poehler and Tina Fey Making Fun of Billy Cosby
A major reason for people tuning into the Golden Globes is to see the hosts Tina Fey and Amy Poehler make funny (and sometimes stinging) jokes about all the Hollywood elite in attendance. This year it was no different. They made fun of A-listers like Emma Stone and Meryl Streep, but they saved most of their venom for the embattled Bill Cosby. One particular joke was along the lines of fairytale character Snow White going out for a coffee with Cosby and ended up getting drugged instead. Ouch! That’s a harsh barb indeed!
Margaret Cho Dressed As A North Korean Soldier
One of the biggest Hollywood stories of 2014 was the hacking of Sony by North Korea as retaliation for the movie The Interview starring Seth Rogen and James Franco. The movie depicted the fictional killing of the North Korean dictator and death threats were actually made to theaters that planned on showing the movie. To make fun of the whole incident, comedian Margaret Cho appeared during the Golden Globes last night dressed up as a North Korean soldier. Cho took selfies with celebs like Meryl Streep and even made a joke about being disappointed for not seeing Dennis Rodman at the event. It was a really funny interlude.
The Affair Winning “Best TV Series – Drama” :
This was perhaps the biggest surprise of the night. Television has gotten really good these days and the competition was really tight for the show that was going to win the award for “Best TV Series – Drama.” The five nominees were The Good Wife, Downton Abbey, The Affair, Game of Thrones and House of Cards. At least four of the shows are extremely critically acclaimed productions that have won the adoration of viewers all over the world. However the award ended up going to the new Showtime series, The Affair. It’s definitely a surprise choice, but hey, perhaps the judges know something that everyone else doesn’t.
Chrissy Teigen’s Awkward Crying Face
One of the most inspiring moments of the evening was when rapper, Common and singer, John Legend won the Golden Globe for Best Original Song for their track “Selma”. Common gave a great acceptance speech and the talented vocalist John Legend chimed in with some uplifting words also. However, the social media world ignored all this and latched on to the funny face that Legend’s model wife Chrissy Teigen made as her husband was up on stage. She was apparently so overwhelmed with emotion that she began crying. The video cameras captured Teigen with a “less than sexy” facial expression and the internet ran wild with it.
Gina Rodriguez Winning Best Actress – TV Series
Another inspiring section of The Golden Globes occurred when it was time to present the award for the Best Actress in a TV Series, Musical or Comedy. The nominees were Julia Louis Dreyfus (Veep) , Edie Falco (Nurse Jackie), Lena Dunham (Girls), Taylor Schilling (Orange Is The New Black) and Gina Rodriguez (Jane The Virgin). No one expected it, but Gina Rodriguez ended up winning the category for her show that just debuted last year. She came on stage and gave a beautiful speech about her family and Latino culture. It was very inspiring.
Catherine Zeta Jones Emoji Flamenco Meme
Catherine Zeta Jones was a presenter at The Golden Globes last night, and of course she looked stunning as usual. She wore an awesome red gown and her hair and makeup were done perfectly. However in this new world of social media, people can create trending topics and memes out of anything. A Twitter user with the handle @madamezooble discovered an uncanny resemblance between her and the emoji for a flamenco dancer (see above). And just like that, a new popular trending topic was born.
