Whether you’re willing to admit it or not, we all love a good fight. And by fight, we don’t necessarily mean those of epic proportions that culminate in bloody lips and black eyes – although those can be entertaining too. This article will focus on brawls that make you want to dim the lights, grab a bag of popcorn, and settle in for the evening because, you guessed it, celebrities are the ones doing the feuding. Gone are the days of the carefully controlled and monitored celeb who didn’t dare utter a word without the consent of their publicists since they can’t compete with the temptations of social media. Today’s A-listers say what they want, when they want. So sit back, relax and read all about 10 of the biggest celebrity rumbles.
George Clooney VS Leonardo DiCaprio
Didn’t your mom ever tell you, “If you don’t have something nice to say, then don’t say anything at all?” Apparently George Clooney didn’t get the memo. In a November 2013 interview with Esquire, the Gravity star took aim at some of his acting contemporaries including an incident that happened on the court with ‘King of the World’ Leonardo DiCaprio, and his choice of friends. “You know, I can play. I’m not great by any means, but I played high school basketball, and I know I can play. I also know that you don’t talk sh-t unless you can play. And the thing about playing Leo is you have all these guys talking sh-t… We’re all like fifty years old, and we beat them three straight: 11-0, 11-0. 11-0. And the discrepancy between their game and how they talked about their game made me think of how important it is to have someone in your life to tell you what’s what. I’m not sure if Leo has someone like that.” Ouch! Clooney has since then cleared the air claiming there is actually no bad blood between the two and that a small comment he made was taken out of context. The comment was intended to insult DiCaprio’s “game” rather then his entourage.
Katy Perry VS Miley Cyrus
Ladies, haven’t we learned by now that we should never let a man or a tongue come between us? When Miley Cyrus and Katy Perry locked lips during the former Disney Star’s Bangerz L.A. concert, in February, the story made the front headlines: “Katy Kissed a Girl and Did Not Like it!” In an interview with an Australian morning show, the Dark Horse singer set the record straight, “I just walked up to give her a friendly girly kiss, you know, as girls do, and then she tried to move her head and go deeper and I pulled away. God knows where that tongue has been!” Miley took to twitter to fire back: “Girl if ur worried abt where tongues have been good think ur ex boo is ur EX BOO cause we ALL know where THAT tongue’s been.” Katy responded: “Oooo gurrrl I’m gonna give you the BIGGEST spanking when I see you in the UK bb!” Even though Katy seemed to have played it down, is there some anger behind the comments?
Taylor Swift VS Selena Gomez
For once in her life Taylor Swift wanted to feel what it was like to be the dumper and not the dumpee. That’s just what she did to former BFF Selena Gomez when she learned that the Spring Breakers star had reunited with her former flame, Justin Bieber. It seems Taylor has a bit of a beef with the ‘Biebs’, which might have something to do with the media frenzy surrounding his recent legal troubles and publicized juvenile behaviour. US Weekly reports that the country diva and her pop star bestie’s relationship may have been on the rocks prior to the reconciliation. Apparently, Taylor got a little peeved when Selena had a brief fling with Swift’s other close friend, singer Ed Sheeran. Taylor felt that Selena used Ed in order to make Justin jealous, did it work?
James Franco VS Anne Hathaway
Remember back in 2011 when The Oscars wanted to try something different and decided to enlist James Franco and Anne Hathaway to cohost? Critics were quick to bash the duo whom some called ‘high’ (Franco) and ‘desperate’ (Hathaway). Most concluded that Franco seem disinterested causing the Les Miserables star to pick up the slack and her over-animated shtick got more irritating as the night progressed. To say Hathaway was not impressed with the performance of her lackluster partner was an understatement. And to make matters worse, Franco appeared on The David Letterman Show shortly after and said some pretty nasty things: “[Anne]” is so energetic, I think the Tasmanian Devil would look stoned standing next to [her].” Despite being panned by some critics who called them the ‘worst’ hosts in Oscar history, the two have apparently made amends. In a 2013 interview with Howard Stern, Franco told the shock jock “Anne and I have made up, by the way. Let’s just get that on the record.” Though that may be the case, don’t hold your breath on the two A-listers appearing together anytime soon.
Terrence Howard VS Robert Downey Jr.
Iron Man’s got a hater! It seems that Hustle and Flow star Terrence Howard has been talking smack about Robert Downey Jr. when it was revealed that he was booted from the franchise over…you guessed it, money! Howard starred in the first Iron Man instalment back in 2008, as Colonel James ‘Rhodey’ Rhodes, a close friend of Tony Stark’s (RDJ). The film was an international success and grossed an estimated $585 million worldwide. So when Iron Man 2 premiered two years later in 2010, and Terrence was significantly absent from the flick (he was replaced by Don Cheadle), we knew something had gone amok. Three years later, Howard spilled the beans on what went down. Appearing on gossip talk show Watch What Happens Live, Terrence confided: “It turns out that the person that I helped become Iron Man, when it was time to re-up for the second one, took the money that was supposed to go to me and pushed me out.” Obviously a reference to RDJ, he bitterly went on to state that the studio reneged on the three-picture contract they made, and offered only 1/8 of what he was promised saying that the second film would be successful “with or without” him. “And I called my friend who I helped get the first job and he didn’t call me back for three months.” As for his feelings on that ‘friend’ his response was pretty clear, “Oh, I love him. God’s gonna bless him.”
Gwyneth Paltrow VS Madonna
After much debate, we can’t seem to decide whose side to take – pretentious, stuck-up, snob #1 or #2. Apparently, 2013’s ‘Most Hated Woman in Hollywood’ and America’s ‘Most Attention-Starved Aging Pop Star,’ called it quits back in 2010 when Madonna dumped their personal trainer Tracey Anderson whom Gwyneth now co-owns four gyms with. The two golden girls had been friends for more than a decade, working out together, eating gluten-free together, and studying the kaballah together. What’s so great about this feud is that neither has been shy on dissing the other in public. During an interview for Iron Man 3, when asked if she would call up Madge to boast that her washboard stomach was “far superior” Gwennie told ITN.co.uk “No, I don’t think I would. Why rub it in? Let’s face it. I’ll Polaroid my abs and text them to her.” Rawr!
Sofia Coppola VS Cameron Diaz
Former gal pals Sofia Coppola and Cameron Diaz recently kissed and made up! A source close to Diaz told RadarOnline that the two “had drinks this summer and cleared the air, possibly even paving the way for future collaboration.” The feud began back in 1999, when Cameron apparently flirted up a storm with Sophia’ s then husband, filmmaker, Spike Jonze. So how did Ms. Coppola retaliate? In the best and cattiest way any director would – make a film about it! Although she would later deny the claims, the role of ditzy blonde actress, Kelly played with air-headed perfection by Ana Faris in 2003’s Lost in Translation bears a striking resemblance to Diaz. And when she unabashedly begins to flirt with Charlotte’s photographer husband, there can’t be any doubt. And though it may be water under the bridge for Sofia and Cameron, the source reveals that for Diaz, imitation is definitely not a form of flattery. “Cameron refuses to talk to Anna. And she has never publicly addressed the movie scenes in question, it’s an off-limit topic.”
Channing Tatum VS Alex Pettyfer
It may have been hard to pay attention to anything but the eye candy that was Channing Tatum and Alex Pettyfer in 2012s strip-fest Magic Mike but did you know that behind the scenes the two hotties couldn’t stand each other? According to a story that ran in US Weekly, Alex was behaving so poorly on set that Channing (a co-producer) cut him out of a scene and during the press junket, refused to pose for pictures or make appearances with him alone.Word on the street is that Pettyfer has earned quite a reputation for being a douche on every movie set. Apparently in his role as the disfigured teen in 2011s Beastly, he was a terror to work with because he was forced to play ugly. The feud between Tatum and his costar allegedly got so bad that Channing banned him from posing on the cover of Entertainment Weekly with the rest of the cast. With the uber success of the first film, Channing is now penning the script for Magic Mike 2. No word yet on whether Alex will reprise his role as Tatum’s protege.
Lady Gaga VS Perez Hilton
Though the battle between the blogger and the Paparazzi singer seems to be a bit of a ‘he said, she said’ extravaganza, neither are shy about voicing their feelings. “She globs onto people, uses them and once they’re no longer of use to her, will just throw them aside,” Perez exclaimed in an interview with Wendy Williams. “He’s just mad that I don’t want to hang out anymore. I don’t want to be around fake people,” the singer fired back in an interview with Howard Stern. According to Gaga, the drama began during a 2011 interview. “He was being very negative about Born This Way and we had had a lot to drink. He was supposed to be my friend and I felt betrayed, so I started crying. My friend had to come in and pull the camera out, they wouldn’t turn the cameras off.” Not so, according to Hilton who took to his twitter to respond. “I was the one who pulled away from u after I realized what a real-life vampire you are. It’s been your M.O. your whole career!”
Jennie Garth VS Shannen Doherty
There has never been another teen drama to rival the popularity of the 90s classic Beverly Hills 90210. The plot revolved around rich Beverly Hills kids with the sort of privileged problems real teens would never experience. And we ate it up! Much of the show centred around the relationship of Brenda Walsh (played by Shannen Doherty) and Kelly Taylor (Jennie Garth). Loving besties, one moment, and vindictive enemies the next, Brenda and Kelly battled over clothes, popularity and of course, boys. Rumors began swirling that Shannen was an absolute terror to work with and those vicious cat-fights weren’t confined to the set. “There were times when we loved each other and there were times when we wanted to claw each other’s eyes out!” Garth recently said in an interview with E! News. According to her new book, working with Doherty was such torture for Garth that one of their most notorious brawls almost ended in a fist fight. When Shannen was fired from the show after only four seasons for ‘bad behaviour’ (the nice way of saying she was a crazy nut job) we all breathed a collective sigh of relief – hey don’t judge, she was pretty intimidating! Apparently Jennie and Shannen have made up and are now closer than ever…and by close we mean as long as they remain in different states.
