Born as Hugo Rafael Chávez Frías, Hugo Chavez is a popular political figure in Venezuela his net worth is estimated to be around $1 billion. He served as the country’s president since 1999. His term of service as Venezuela’s president culminated on his death in 2013. 

Hugo Chavez is known for his passion and focus to implement socialist reforms which entail participatory democratic councils, new constitution implementation, the nationalization of several vital industries, increased funding on education and healthcare, and of course, significant reduction in poverty. His efforts were greatly recognized when the UN index revealed that the quality of life in Venezuela has significantly improved, and that poverty rate has significantly reduced from 48.6% in 2002, then to 29.5% as of 2011.

Hugo Chavez is known to be affiliated with some famous communist leaders. In fact, he was seen allying with Cuba’s Raúl Castro and Fidel, Bolivia’s Evo Morales, Nicaragua’s Nicaragua and of course, Rafael Correa of Ecuador.

In June 2011, he was reported to be recovering from a surgical operation which involves the removal of some abscessed tumor with cancerous cells. I December 2012, he had to undergo a second operation. On January 10, 2013, he was supposed to sworn on but was postponed by the National Assembly of Venezuela to give him more time to recuperate. However, at age 58, he died in Caracas on March 5, 2013.
