Mike Pence is the new Vice President of the United States. He was the governor of Indiana from 2013 to 2017. Donald Trump picked him to become his running mate. He now stands a heartbeat from being the president.

He was working as a Right-wing radio host before he entered Congress. Pence described himself as Rush Limbaugh who drank decaf. He and his wife Karen got married in 1985. They now have three children - Audrey, Charlotte, and Michael.

People considered Pence as a safe choice for his appointment the previous year. The long-serving Republican official had close ties to the party grassroots and establishment. The Republican establishment's members lauded him for his solid conservative credentials and experience.

Pence was in office for 16 years. He started as a member of the Congress and became the governor of Indiana. When he was in office, he pushed for the minimization of government spending. People saw him as a fiscal conservative. In 2016, he endorsed Ted Cruz in the Republican primaries last 2016. The Speaker of the House Paul Ryan praised him. He describes him as a "movement conservative" and "personal friend."

He described Trump as a "good man" after he accepted the vice-presidential nomination. Part of Pence's role as Trump's running mate is to mop up his mess. The Midwesterner has mild manners and strong conservative credentials. He tried to toughen Trump's stance on Russia.
