Known as a democrat turned republican turned to democrat again, Arlen Specter is a former Senator of Pennsylvania with a current estimated net worth of $30 million.
Born to Jewish Russian parents from Wichita, Kansas, Arlen Specter finished his Bachelor's degree at University of Pennsylvania. He was part of the US Air Force that was sent to Korean War. After graduating from Yale Law School, he started a law firm and eventually became a federal judge. From 1965 through 1973, he served as the Philadelphia's District Attorney.
After 44 years of being a republican, he became a member of the Democratic party. He was defeated by Joe Sestak in the Democratic primary only to lost to Pat Toomey during the general election.
In 2011, he was hired at University of Pennsylvania Law School as an adjunct professor. He taught a course that discusses the relationship between the US Supreme Court and the Congress. For teaching such course, he was named as one of the "23 professors to take before you die" by the National Jurist. Despite being diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma, Specter continued his duty at the senate. In October 2012, he died due to complications brought about by Hodgkin's lymphoma.
