Born Margarita Bognadova on June 1, 1962 in Leningrad, USSR, she has earned her estimated net worth of $5.9 billion when she took over the Louis Dreyfus Group, a multinational trading group founded by Leopold Louis-Dreyfus in 1851. It is owned by her husband, Robert Louis-Dreyfus, until he died of leukemia in 2009. She and Robert met on a plane in 1988 and got married in 1992 (both their second time).

Also known as MLD, she is the current chairman of the group. In October 2012, she decided to sell the company’s energy trading business. She also raised capital on the public markets for the first time in the history of the 160-year-old firm which issued $350 million in bonds on the Singapore market. She is reportedly planning to spend an estimated $7 billion on acquisitions in the next five years. She is also preparing her three children to join the multinational trading group which operates in 53 countries.
