Of German and Jewish ancestry, Lynn Schusterman was born on January 21, 1939  in Kansas City, Missouri. She is a graduate of the University of Miami. It was in 1962 when she married Charles who was of Russian-Jewish origin. Charles Schuterman owned Samson Investment Company, which was considered as one of the largest and most successful gas exploration and production in the U.S. Diagnosed with leukemia in 1983, he died in 2000.  In November 2011, Samson Investment Company was sold to several investors led by KKR for only $7.2 billion.
